"Slow food on the go" is the mantra of this in the Marina featuring sandwiches and salads made from local, organic ingedients

by Patrick Heig

The small and rustic space is appropriately painted powder blue, built using salvaged barn wood from an actual abandoned farm in Vermont. Health- and ecologically-conscious eaters who want "slow food" served at fast food speeds will love gourmet-grade sandwiches like the "Skirt" (Meyer Ranch skirt steak, Pt. Reyes blue cheese, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, arugula & horseradish dijon on ciabatta), and there are plentiful vegetarian options and build-your-own-salads with farm-fresh produce as well. Though most orders are to-go, there are plenty of indoor seats and a couple of outdoor tables perfect for preppy people-watching on Chestnut Street.

One bad visit seals the deal

by samfrancisco

I was a pretty regular customer here. I've probably eaten 50 salads since they first opened. Then yesterday I had my first and last bad experience. I should preface this review by saying,

I NEVER SEND FOOD BACK. EVER. I'm not a picky eater. I'm also never compelled to write reviews online. This is my first.

I always get the U-Pick salad. It's always good and, for $11 it should be. When I got mine home yesterday and started eating it the spinach didnt taste right, at least compared to the last 50 salads w/ spinach I've had here before for comparison. At first I didn't want to walk all the way back to return it but, when you spend a certain amount of money for something you expect to get your moneys worth.

However, the most surprising thing wasn't the below average quality of the salad, every one is allowed a few mistakes but, by the way I was treated when I tried to return it. This guy (manager? owner?) comes out of the back and starts giving me the 3rd degree. He says in his condescending tone that he tasted my salad and there's nothing wrong w/ the spinach and that people try to return half eaten salads all the time to try and rip them off. He says I ate half of it already which, would have been true had it been filled to the top to begin with. It was about 3/4 full when I opened the box at home.

Then he asks me what I want them to do about it and, if he hadn't given me such a hard time, I would have accepted a refund or a new salad but because he wanted to make me out to be a liar I told him he could keep my money and the salad. It's the last dollar they'll get from me.

Best make your own salads

by bcavitt

I love the salads here! You have your choice of so many fresh and unique ingredients. The grilled cheese selection is unbelievable, you have your choice of cheese selections to include goat, sheep and brie and many others. The staff here is wonderful and extremely knowledgeable of nutrition. I recommend this for take out at home or romantic picnic. This is truly a wonderful gourmet deli.

Not so much.............

by sfsharona

If it takes me 20+ minutes to find parking around this area, I'm not taking it to go! Just a thought when someone decided to put 2 tables in the place. Are you kidding me?

  • Cons: The door that automatically keeps opening; not enough tables to sit at; not a good location for a "to go" place - I want to eat at the place I buy my food.
