Best Mediterranean Food!
by KellieLynn
I joined Citysearch just so I could review this fantastic restaurant! Our waiter, whose family owns the place, was so attentive, friendly, and had a great energy. He helped us figure out what to order, and seemed genuinely excited about the food he was about to serve. I ordered the Quzi, which was boneless lamb cooked in yogurt sauce with roasted almonds and rice. It was amazing! One of the best mediterranean dishes I've ever had! The meat was tender and flavorful, the sauce was a bit tangy, and the dish had a sweetness to it. I also shared the Iraqi Meza to start, which was a sampler of the hummus, rihan, tabouli, jajeck, and falafel. The appetizers were outstanding. I've had a lot of hummus, tabouli and falafel in my life, and this was some of the absolute best. Honestly -- you have to try this place!!"

The Lower Haight's new one-stop spot for authentic Iraqi dishes ranging from beef kebabs to seafood beriani.
The city's only Iraqi restaurant, Baghdad Nights serves authentic Mesopotamian dishes ranging from beef kebabs to seafood beriani, and fits right into the Lower Haight.

As obsessed as we clearly are with Iraq, strange that hardly anyone's tried the food; turns out the palette is pretty similar to it's Mesopotamian brothers, which is to say, pretty tasty. While most of the city's Middle Eastern eateries are either overtly trendy and overdone or ultra-casual joints serving cheap fare to-go, Baghdad Nights fits right in the middle: moderate prices, interesting decor, and a raised back section that easily lends itself to private events make this an attractive choice for larger parties. Kebabs and lamb dishes, especially the beraini and quzi, are among the specialties here, though vegetarians will find plenty of meatless options peppering the menu. Saturday night belly dancing performances cast a festive spirit over the dark wood tables, cushioned seats and pale yellow walls hung with colorful tapestries and framed depictions of Iraq--as it once was, at least.

Pleasantly Surprised!

Don't let the Neon Sign and front entrance fool you. This little place has great ambiance. The service was absolutely ABSOLUTELY fantastic. The food was a wonderful blend of being light/healthy portions but perfectly done hints of flavor in everything. So often we are accustomed to food that is inundated with herbs, sauces, muddling the flavors and cooking. This place uses light touches of flavoring and sauces and tones everything down making the food some of the best Middle Eastern food we've had in San Francisco. A definite must try. I expect this place to become popular very quickly!
- Pros: Food, Service, Ambiance
- Cons: Lighting (dim), Front Signage (kinda cheesy)
Awesome appetizers
by sjdnoho
Well prepared, appetizers with delicious light Iraqi bread. They use fresh ingredients which create a tapestry of distinct, zesty flavors. The staff was friendly and attentive. This is a great place to come for a variety of appetizers, the Iraqi bread, and a couple of beers. The main courses are very ample, well-presented, and satisfying. We had the impression of everything being home made. The ambiance fell short of perfection being a bit loud and austere. Definitely worth a visit for middle eastern cuisine.
- Pros: appetizers, fresh baked Iaqi bread & ample portions
- Cons: none
