My new favorite hotel in San Francisco

San Francisco hotels are notoriously expensive. The Tomo offers a great experience in Japantown, close to Filmore street. Rates are very good! And it's only 15 minutes away from downtown by bus.

• Pros: Good quality, good rates, good neighborhood
• Cons: hotel restaurant is just ok

A starkly modernist lobby greets guests with a ceiling mural, massive couch with anemone-like texturing and vending machines filled with electronics and gadgets. Bright and cheery rooms have fun, contemporary decor and feature their own J-pop wall murals by Heisuke Kitazawa. Amenities include LCD flat-screen televisions, iPod docks and bean-bag chairs.
