Grand Pu Bah - Ah, ah gooood!

by sittinnpretty

Fantastic, I love the atmosphere and the food and great service. I want to eat here every night. Steve and Sara are so nice (owners). The food is very good. The flavors are subtle and refined and the presentation is certainly fussed over. The fried spring rolls are as good as they get - crisp, light. The fresh spring rolls are good, the chicken satay is great. The full bar is AMAZING. totally great drinks... so go early, have a drink then go sit down for dinner... enjoy!

  • Pros: Everything from start to finish

Trichinosis Blue Plate Special

by mrf00die

Main complaint is an undercooked (read: cold interior) pork dish. This is simply the sign of a kitchen not caring. Another complaint is that portion size is similar to that credit card commercial about plating looking like "elf food". Pad Thai was an unbalanced glob.

Trichinosis, also called trichinellosis, or trichiniasis, is a parasitic disease caused by eating raw or undercooked pork and wild game infected with the larvae of a species of roundworm Trichinella spiralis, commonly called the trichina worm. Trichinosis initially involves the intestines. Within 1-2 years of contagion, symptoms such as nausea, heartburn, dyspepsia, and stomach upset appear; the severity of these symptoms depends on the extent of the infection. Later on, as the worms encyst in different parts of the human body, other manifestations of the disease may appear, such as headache, fever, chills, cough, eye swelling, joint pain and muscle pain, petechiae, and itching.

Most symptoms subside within a few years. The most dangerous case is worms entering the central nervous system. They cannot survive there, but they may cause enough damage to produce serious neurological deficits (such as ataxia or respiratory paralysis), and even death.

  • Pros: Not crowded
  • Cons: Food, portions, prices

BIG disappointment

by chocolate85

Big disappointment. Waaaay overpriced for mediocre food and small portion. It is suppoooosed to be Thai "beach cuisine", but not fresh catch off a fisherman's boat, more like standard "I'm frozen Costco, be-aatch" cuisine. Some of these expensive tidbits can be good, but it seems like a land mine to catch which one which day. one time a crab salad was ok, the next it was obviously from crab they were getting rid of past its expiration date. And weird things like a pineapple hamburger and stir-fried spaghetti show up in a misguided effort at nonAsian. Factor in slooooow service with frequent misunderstandings, overpriced drinks, annoying noise level when populated at lunch-hour, funereal when empty most nights, it makes for a sub-one star experience. So to recap: mediocre, overpriced, inconsistent food, served at glacial pace, in an empty dining room does not make this sailor happy.

  • Pros: street parking at night, Known bartender, but he just consulted and is never there?
  • Cons: food, service, prices, student-experiment dishes

Snails pace!

by truffles99

Staff are friendly but WAY TOO SLOW. Be sure to order your drinks before you sit! Food very much on the salty side(and that's coming from a salt worshiper!) They also skimp on the seafood portions. Cod filet disappeared in literally 4 small bites!

Crazy for Crab!!! You got to try Grand Pu Bah's Crazy Crab!

by coco_shale

Last night was the 5th time my fiance and I dined at Grand Pu Bah, and it was by far the best. All our experiences have been great, tonight we took a chance, we got crazy with the crab!! This was the best dish we have ever had to date, you do have to work for the meat, but let me tell you, IT IS WORTH IT!!! The crazy crab is boiled in Singha beer, and topped with a thick glaze of garlic and Thai spice. It was unforgettable. We also had a few drinks, mojitos, pimms cup (totally delicious) martinis and Thai beer with the crab. I love the owner, staff, service and vibe at Grand Pu Bah..

  • Pros: Full Bar, great wine list, large menu, Raw Bar, friendly, plenty of parking
  • Cons: not a thing

Cool new dishes!!!

by salamence_ex

Just went to this place for the first time, it was a great experience!! Me and my friends had the oyster, they were all very fresh, and it came with Sriracha sorbet and kaffir lime vodka granita!!! What a surprise, entrees and desserts are all perfectly done, staffs are friendly, and drinks are good. The only bad thing is that if you don't know the neigborhood, it can be a little difficult to find.

  • Pros: Ambience, drinks, food
  • Cons: Location

Thai it, you won't like it

by khunpat

Although the service was slow, the food was bad and prices high........ not recommended. It appears that the other review's grimace-inducing "Tsunami Bisque" dish has been washed to open sea. Maybe I'm the only one who gets similarly appetite reducing "shower" connotations from a murky dish called Rainbow Curry. (Ii know the rest of you cleancut kids think instead about unicorns.) We tried the oysters and found grit in all and one that had obviously died well before its shucking - yuck. The pad thai was maybe made with ketchup rather than tamarind because it was too sweet, greasy, and unbalanced. Service was slow, amateurish, and lacking. The place is struggling, so questionable where the seafood like whole crab goes, but in the refrigerator for the next day, or the next day, or...

  • Pros: I'm thinking, I'm thinking
  • Cons: management, service, food, cost
