Overpriced and Rude Manager/owner
by visila
Took a date here and had the smallest portions imagined served. Overpriced is puting it mildly.
When we walked to the entrance the owner/manager stared us down and did not acknowledge us. Thought we were invisible. I said I wanted a table and he pointed! Pure arrogance! I don't think they want black customers in Farina!
My worst experience in my lifetime in a restaurant!
- Pros: Good architecture
- Cons: Rude, racist manager/owner, overpriced, tiny portions
overpriced, so-so.

Small portions, $30 a plate average, $11 cocktail average, okay service (lots of water and bread served). Seated upstairs and it was a rare October humid/muggy evening and there was no ventilation other than the open door.
- Pros: fancy, full of middle-aged hipster people
- Cons: fancy, full of middle-aged hipster people + expensive
I sing great praises!!!

We had our wedding rehearsal at Farina. Gabriele- the manager-helped make the night perfect:) We had the private dinner room with attached roof top balcony. We couldn't have dreamed of a more perfect meal and atmosphere- all 45 of our guest couldn't stop singing their praise:) Thank you!!
- Pros: food, service, atmosphere!!
- Cons: absolutely none
Farina - a terrible experience
by dog faced boy
I went there tonight with my wife for our anniversary. The whole fish I ordered was full of scales. I tried at least 5 bites and couldn't get past the scales each time.
The extremely arrogant manager, while he did take the fish off the bill, refused to comp us even a cup of coffee. He said that he was OK with losing customers!!?? I must say that the waitress was very nice and gave great service. It was the manager's attitude that prevents us from going there ever again.
- Pros: Close to my house
- Cons: The manager is horrendous
CLASSLESS MANAGER AND MEDIOCRE OVERPRICED FOOD
by FinancialDistrictGuy
I had the misfortune of dining at Farina last night.
The food was mediocre at best; plain and tasteless was the motif. The small portions were definitely not worth the exorbitant prices. And we waited more than 45 minutes for our main course and our orders still came out wrong. Our main complaint, however, wasn't the food or the wait, but the unfathomly rude manager, Gabriele.
This guy could not have been more arrogant. Because of the long wait for our food, our server had brought us two complimentary glasses of wine. But when we got the bill, we were charged for the two glasses. When I brought this to the server's attention, she told me to go talk to the manager, Gabriele, on the other side of the restaurant--note she didn't bring him to our table; she pointed him out and instructed me to go to him. When I found Gabriele and showed him our bill, he nastily sneared that he never agreed to comp us the wine. I explained to him that his server had. Incredulously, he insisted she didn't have his authority to do so and we should pay for what we drank. I responded, absolutely floored, that we would never have ordered the two glasses had they not been complimentary. He could have cared less and would not remove the charges. Moreover, his demeanor was downright haughty and discourteous. In sum, he was absolutely CLASSLESS. This kind of "customer service" may fly in Liguria--his apparent home--but not here. It is just beyond the pale for a manager to charge for a complimentary glass of wine.
Given the tasteless food and manager's lack of any decorum, I recommend you stay far away from this one!
atrocious service! DO NOT EVER GO HERE
by texasex2k
The most atrocious, arrogant, degrading, insulting service I have EVER experienced in my life!
This restaurant needs to be expelled from the Mission and thrown back somewhere, I don?t want to say Marina/Marin cause they don?t deserve this.
The menus were snatched from my wife and our guests and we were told to leave. The manager who I thought was going to give us a reason to stay was the rudest servicewomen I have ever talked to.
heard they have good food but we never tasted it, we couldn't stand the service.
I heart Farina!

I adore this restaurant. First of all the decor is minimalist with the perfect finishes, every detail of this place was carefully crafted to make you feel special when dining. Beyond how beautiful the ambiance is the food is incredible, while I'll admit a bit pricey but throroughly worth every penny! From the freshly baked bread, to the obviously delicately hand-made pastas I was loving every single morsel. Farina you have my heart and I will be back soon with all my friends!
- Pros: The food and atmosphere!
- Cons: Parking in the Mission
Loved it!

I have to say that I completely disagree with some of the other reviews on here. I had an exceptional experience at Farina. My husband and I stumbled in and sat at the bar, we had 2 wonderful glasses of wine reccommneded by the bartender. Then the food...we had their cured meat app, then shared a walnut pesto spinach ravioli that was so yummy! The bread was to die for and then we shared dessert. The total experience was perfect. I love the design elements and the one long family style table. I felt that the prices were completely justified and the food was impreccable. I will certainly be coming back and bringing family when they come in from out of town as well.
what a total disappointment

those of you who like delfina and thought this was worth a try, let me give you some advice: "don't bother". the food is mediocre and wildly overpriced. for $34 a plate and $16 apps, i expect truly excellent food, not average and undistinguished fare and horrible service. our waitress was worthless. it took us20 minutes just to pay. and the wine list is one of the more offensively overpriced in the city. in a town with as many good cafes as san francisco, this place will not make it. even if the food were half the price, there are still a dozen places i'd rather eat.
miss this one. not worth it all all.
Terrible experience with Farina Management
by xjjam
I made a reservation for a friends' birthday party at Farina on a Saturday. 10 of us. When I called to confirm two days before Javier, the manager, said my reservation was down for Sunday. He said there was nothing on Saturday available and BLAMED ME for the problem. I couldn't believe it! I told him it was an error on Farina's end, but he said that was not possible and that he couldn't help. I will NEVER do business with this restaurant again.
