I really love the food there. It is mouth watering and you feel at home while dining. Tajine is my favorite place to eat.

Flavorful, authentic and affordable Moroccan cuisine in neighborhood environs on Polk.

by Joanna Currier

The Scene
Service and decor are mere afterthoughts at this no-frills joint, with room for about 30, where the draws are the flavors (and prices) of owner Mohammed Ghaleb's native cooking. Ambience is warmed by a pastiche of colorful posters, lanterns, throw pillows and fez hats on male servers. Staff speak mostly French and maneuver the simple dining room enthusiastically but haphazardly. Cuisine is halal (acceptable to the Muslim religion)--alcohol is not served, but there is no corkage fee if you bring your own.

The Food
The Moroccan food here achieved near-cult status at Ghaleb's original Jones Street location, and with this larger space his tajines (savory stews), bastillas (meat pies) and vegetarian or meat couscous dishes attract an even stronger following. It's a terrific place to learn about the cuisine's subtle and exotic--not spicy--flavors (dishes are composed with elements such as almonds, prunes, raisins and sweet vegetables); diners here should try some of each. With portions big enough to share and nothing on the menu costing more than $13, that's easy to do.

Tajine Rules! New location has tons of space!

by rockngal

I love Tajine and the vibe that you feel there... it feels like home, family around, nice people to chat with, great food and great prices. The special tea they serve is the best i have ever had, perfectly sweetened and smells like heaven. Mohamed the owner and chef is always there to greet you with a smile and offer suggestions if you can?t decide what you want. The new location is great, is roomy and has beautiful Moroccan art on the walls.

  • Pros: the service, food, staff

Best Food Ever!!

by sfmn11

I love this restaurant! I have eaten at plenty of Moroccan restaurants in the area and nothing compares to Tajine. The new location on Polk has much more seating and has a great ambiance. The food is amazing! I have tried everything on the menu and have never been disappointed. Everyting from the Shermoulah to the Lamb Tajine is excellent. Go try it out!

  • Pros: Tasty tasty! Good service. Authentic.
  • Cons: Can't think of any

The best in taste and value.

by wafiner101

I have eaten there when it was on Jones St and have been a loyal customer ever since. This restaurant has the tastiest and most authentic Moroccan food you will get anywhere in the city. If you eat then once, you WILL be addicted to it. Forget the Belly dancers you see in other Moroccan restaurants, this is the place to go, you won't regret it.

  • Pros: Great tasting food
  • Cons: can be packed on weekends and evenings
