Great Atmosphere - Go to Jonathan Baker!
by bfalconer
Jonathan Baker is terrific! I've lived in the area for 8 years, and I've never found a hair stylist whose work I completely loved until Jonathan. Hands down, he's giving me the best haircuts of my life. He trained in London with Toni & Guy, going on to teach there himself and advance to the position of art director. He's done hair for fashion shows, events, and more, and he really knows how to make your cut look modern, fresh, sophisticated, European, all those good things -- without taking you beyond what will work with your personality and work/lifestyle. He's also studying fashion at the Academy of Art, so he really thinks about your haircut in terms of your overall style (and where it's headed). Plus, he's a winning conversationalist. A total delight.
- Pros: Style with a Smile
- Cons: None
Shave?
by BoxerPuncher
My sister-in-law works for Aveda and helped set this place up. She said to try it out when we came to SF next time. I forgot my razor so I decided to get a shave. Me and my wife tracked this place down hoping to get in. The guy receptionist made a project out of trying to set it up. Finally he found a time for like two hours later. We opted to wait. After like fifteen minutes we called and cancelled. The receptionist guy was a total b**ch to my wife. I could understand if we waited almost two hours to call, but it was like right away. He acted like we ruined their whole day. I thought that was bad service. So we went to MR in the Financial District.
- Pros: Classy looking loft
- Cons: Service
Best Salon for Men and Women in San Francisco!
by jptouch
This is a hip, warm and friendly place to get all of your pampering. Greg has been cutting my hair for years and I have watched him build this labor of love from the very beginning. Although the space itself is like being in a remarkable contemporary art museum, it is really the staff that make The Barber Lounge such a special place. You can feel the camaraderie the moment you arrive. I have many friends who go to the other talented barbers and stylists; each has his or her own following and I don't think you could go wrong with any of them.
My first manicure and pedicure were at The Barber Lounge, and I can highly recommend both Mi Won and Hoang. I am trying to convince my male friends of the importance of this kind of grooming...and it is simply another relaxing way to get pampered.
I regularly get massages, and I would say the Mark Eron is the best masseur I have ever had. Mark is tall, strong, and personable and can get as deep into your aching muscles as you would like him to. He uses hot stones with his massage; the extra heat really allows the muscles to relax. Don't miss this experience!
- Pros: hip ambiance; great sense of light and space; expert hair, nail and massage treatment
- Cons: I really can't think of any...
Fabulous service and ambiance!

It is always a treat going to the Barber Lounge with their great service, cool ambiance, and friendly front staff. I always leave feeling very relaxed (added bonus) and looking great with a fantastic cut and color!
Wouldn't go anywhere else. The Barber Lounge is the place.

I've been going to Greg for almost 10 years now, and even after moving to Texas, treat myself to a haircut with him every time I come back to the Bay Area. Anything else feels like cheating, and it's definitely never as satisfying. Now that he's opened the Barber Lounge, the whole experience is even that much better. Everything I could want (pedicure & facial!) under one roof. A one-stop shop at it's finest. And the space is gorgeous, spacious yet cozy, and the staff I've encountered so far have all been friendly and welcoming. You can't help but love it.
Classic barbershop meets urban salon and day spa in a loft-like SoMa space.

In Short
There's a little something for everyone at this light-filled destination. Hardwood floors and faux wood-grain details mix with stainless-steel fixtures and retro-inspired furnishings to create a space with equal appeal for guys and dolls. Dudes sink into old school chairs for hot-towel shaves, while ladies choose among a bevy of cut, color and styling options. Facials, mani-pedis, massage, body treatments and spray tanning offer pampering for both genders.
Awesome shave experience.

From the time you arrive, every comfort is provided. I was greeted by Greg, offered coffee, and invited to sit on the soft leather couch and red magazines until my appointment with Kurt. Everything about the shave was both satisfying and decadent. Kurt provided an excellent shave, very attentive and extremely thorough. He first trimmed my beard with an electric shaver, and then sculpted the edges free-hand. He followed with an excellent face massage, then hot towel wraps to soften and relax my neglected neck, and two straight razor shaves. Nothing was rushed. The results are excellent. The experience was everything that I expected, and hoped it would be.
- Pros: Masculine ambience, convenient to muni, excellent service, well priced.
- Cons: none.
Shoking and terrible shave............!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After all is called Barber Lounge.....
by eccezionale
A gentleman come to me, introduce himself and bring me to the famous Barber Chair. There I sat for one hours and 1/2. you probably asking yourself in what conditions was I. Well I had not shaved for two days. I could not been that bad.He told me that he will trimmed my bear with a trimmer . He then apply a hot shaving cream to my face, lefted for a couple of minutes. he then applied a hot towel to my face. Very soothing. He then proceed to apply another layer of hot shaving cream an started shaving. I could not understand by the feel of it , what instrument or tool he was using. I felt he was shaving one air at a time. No long strokes, very tiny movement. The all time I thought I woul open my eyes and I would look at myself different. The all time I had my eyes close,by face would be smooth, clean shaven with no razor cut and so on. Well the time came and when I look in the mirror I was in shock. First I thought that my mirror was like the one that make your face ten time bigger. Well I was again wrong . It was a normal mirror and my face was not clean shaven. I look like I had that bear for one day. I had spots, underneat my chin that were completely shavem, and parts that were just trimmed. The whole experience was shoking. I do not care about how much I paid. I was expecting more service oriented employees, more engaging and after all a clean shave. Unfortunately I could not recommend this place for a shave to anyone. I cannot critique the hair stylist or the owner. I did not meet them and I also did not experience the hair cut. I did however experienced the hot shave. I just wanted to share my experience with all of you. After all is called Barber Lounge.
- Pros: Very spacious, nice music, lofty and airy
- Cons: Terrible shave
Beautiful haircuts, styling and color.

My daughter and I have been clients of Greg's for over 10 years. I'm a fading red head with naturally coarse and curly hair. I've always kept it relatively short and Greg knows how to cut my hair and style it so that it always looks beautiful. He also does my coloring which as a redhead can be pretty tricky to make it look natural. He's also done my daughter's hair all these years. Hers is long and wavy and he'll style it whichever way she wants - curly, wavy or straight. In fact she's getting her hair done this weekend for prom and she won't trust her hair to anyone else but Greg. Greg is a great guy and the Barber Lounge rocks! It's a fantastic space and I can't wait to try out the other services. Finally, Greg's prices are very reasonable for the quality of his work. Greg charges much less for a combined cut, color and styling than Di Pietro Todd does for just a coloring. I highly encourage everyone to check out this new hip hair haven! You really can't go wrong. Thanx Wheels
- Pros: Great design and decor. Service was great and parking east.
- Cons: ???
Best Highlights
by sharabk
The Barber Lounge is a warm, open, relaxed space perfect for spending the day receiving spa/beauty treatments. Greg does an amazing job with highlights (I travel from Sacramento specifically for them) and I have the fullest confidence in his selection of staff. The salon is also walking distance from the new Westfield downtown SF shopping center which makes for an even greater day of indulgence!
- Pros: Walking distance to downtown shopping, Whole Foods, restaurants, museums
