Moist Bundles of Sweet Happiness
by vanessam888
I think my headline says it all. However I will say a very sweet cake and a very sweet frosting can be a bit much. Maybe they should make one less sweet than the other. Oh never mind. That's a lousy idea.
- Pros: Too Sweet
- Cons: Too Sweet
Don't do it!

I love cupcakes, and Kara's come with a good reputation, albeit a high price tag. However, I refuse to support a business owned by someone as unkind as Kara. I've seen managers with various managing styles, but I have never seen someone berate their staff the way Kara has (maybe with the exception of Gordon Ramsey from Hell's Kitchen). Cupcakes are supposed to be happy, friendly food (although not so friendly in terms of calories), but instead, my experience was tainted by the owner's harsh words to an employee. It seems like a really hostile, unhealthy environment to work in, and I will NOT be returning.
- Pros: variety of flavors
- Cons: price, Kara's treatment of staff
Yummy cupcakes!

I LOVE these cupcakes. The best is that they are moist, and the frosting is quite divine! I love the Meyer Lemon, the Coconut, and the Chocolate Velvet. I did get Sibby's for a recent party, and they were very cute, but not nearly as moist as Kara's.
Gotta be gentle with these darlings, since they will melt if kept out too long. They are also easily squished in the box.
- Pros: Great cupcakes!!!
- Cons: Need to eat them right away, parking is rather challenging
Dissapointing

When a friend who lives in the neighborhood told me about a new cupcake shop, I couldn't wait to try it!
It's a really cute space, the product looks good in the case, etc., but I was really dissapointed in the cupcakes themselves. It's like the whole thing is just a cute gimmick. I purchased 6 different flavors, all of the them were, IMHO, kind of dry and not particularly tasty. I could make better ones myself at home.
I guess I'll just have to stick with Sibby's, so far the best cupcakes I've ever had in my life. On par or even better than Sprinkles in L.A.
I can honestly say I won't be going back for seconds.
- Pros: Cute space, trendy neighborhood
- Cons: Cupcakes just aren't that good
Don't expect it to be like Sprinkles Cupcakes. You will be dissapointed.

If you are a fan of Sprinkles Cupcakes in Beverly Hills & Newport Beach and you are looking for a cupcake bakery that will compare, you will not find it here. I purchased half a dozen cupcakes in all different flavors just to see if I would find one I really liked but unfortunately I didn't. To those Sprinkles lovers... Don't waste your time. If you've never been to Sprinkles then I'd try Kara's.
- Pros: Cute store, great service
- Cons: Cupcakes weren't as good as I thought they would be.
Good --but there are better cupcakes in the City

Although the shop is cute (reminscent of sprinkles), the displays are nice, the cupcake itself is inconsistant. With 6 visits there to date and i find the quality varies with each visit. Being somewhat addicted to cupcakes, I will still stop in, hoping to find the quality up. Mostly either too dry or overbaked, same with the icing, sometimes too little icing. i tend to point and pick my specific cupcake rather than leave it to the server. Other places with a more consistant product (although everyone seems to be the same pricing in the $3-$3.50 range) are Miette's at the Ferry Building, Noe Valley Bakery on 24th Str and recently, i tried the Cal-Mart on California in Laurel Village, and was surprised to find a decent cupcake plus mini sizes also. The best is still the orginal Sprinkles, who may be coming to SF area! Check out their website for "coming locations"!
- Pros: If you really crave a cupcake and are in the neighborhood go for it, but don't expect gourmet quality
- Cons: Pick out the best looking one of the bunch or you may be disappointed, parking is diificult most of the time. Not worth a special trip.

Tasted all the flavors except 3. The only cupcake I like is the Fleur Del Sel. It is yummy but not mind-blowing. Great treat especially when someone else if buying.
Overpriced and underwhelming
by stella06
Everyone loves a great cupcake, right ? That's what I was expecting when I sank my teeth into my first Kara's Cupcake. Sadly, I was very disappointed. These are some EXPENSIVE cupcakes which makes a customer expect something more than 3 bites. If I ate a "regular" size c upcake, I can only imagine how small a mini is! On top of the fact that these cupcakes are over-priced (especially for the size), they aren't that great. Sure, they're OK, but for that price and the small size, I had much higher expectations re: the taste. If you have money to throw away and no sense of taste and you want to pay a lot for a little, this is the place to go.
Marina district strollers can sample a petite cake to go at this pretty little cupcake shop.

In Short
Cupcakes made daily using locally sourced and organic ingredients are displayed like gems in glass cases at this mostly to-go shop. Flavors include classics like sweet chocolate, carrot and vanilla, as well as more grown-up varieties such as buttermilk cake filled with passion-fruit curd and topped with vanilla butter cream.
Cupcakes Yum!

If you are looking for a real quality cupcake this is the place. No more searching, grab your wallet and head to Kara's. These cupcakes are deliciously good without being too rich. If you arrive early enough you might be able to snag a mini so run on over. Besides the actual cupcakes the store has a sleek and modern design with the cupcakes framed in glass cases. Kara herself is often there and always checking in to make sure her customers are fully satisfied. If you go, do yourself the favor and don't just get one, trust me you will won't regret it!
