Friendliest restaurant in San Francisco & Best Baklava Around!

by kristalynne

Because there are so many restaurants in San Francisco, it's easy to hop from one to the next. Hayes and Kebab is a place that values repeat business and the owners and staff recognize customers who come back. Everything I've tried here has been amazing. The meat is extremely good quality so it is good in a wrap or on a salad-specify what you want.

All of the deserts are amazing, especially the Bakalva. It is the best I've ever had and I never leave without a piece. The bread is homemade and the hummus and baba ganoush are wonderful. It is a relaxing atmosphere and always homey where some places in Hayes Valley are a bit sterile. This is perfect for lunch or dinner and to share with friends.

  • Pros: Service, Baklava, Variety of Food

A restaurant that feels like home!!

by rochelle9

This is one of the most homely restaurant I have visited in a long long time. The staff are very friendly and take great pains to ensure the best of service. The food is excellent - I especially enjoy the Vegetarian wraps which are well stuffed and have an array of vegetables.

The prices are pretty decent and meals are quite affordable. This is a great place for a casual, delicious meal!

Best hummus!!!

by tulip333

Hayes & Kebab offers delicious food, excellent service, and a friendly atmosphere. I enjoyed a chicken and salmon kebab; which were seasoned and grilled perfectly. The kebabs came with rice, bulgar, and a salad. All of which were flavorful. One of the big surprises of the evening was that I discovered I like hummus. I thought I didn?t like it, but what I came to discover was that I simply don?t like bad hummus. When hummus is prepared right, I actually like it a lot, and the hummus at Hayes & Kebab was the best I have ever had. I could have eaten the entire bowl all by myself. If you like baklava, then you?ll absolutely love the baklava at Hayes & Kebab.

  • Pros: Great food, service, ambiance.

Kebab cravings are swiftly sated at this Mediterranean cafe in Hayes Valley.

by Lorraine Sanders

In Short
After starting off with tender dolma or buttery spanakopita in a dining room featuring maze-colored walls and bench seating spruced up with red cushions and brightly patterned pillows, diners partake in plates of marinated meats from the grill and warm lavash bread wraps. Salads on offer range from traditional couscous and tabbouleh to a very California concoction of spinach, gorgonzola and caramelized walnuts. Those who enjoy gyros and falafel with extra bite will want to request the house spicy sauce. Beer and wine are available.

Fresh and clean food at great prices

by elisa432

Fresh and clean food... Had the combo appetizer plate with their fresh bread (found out it's made fresh daily). Cleaned the plate. Then, we shared the salmon kebab and rice pilaf (and yes, we also ordered a side of fries)... really delicious. Bottomline, fresh and clean food for a really good price. Loved the setting: warm colors and comfy cushions. Service excellent. Topped it off by a hand delivered Baklava from the chef (had just made it)... wow.... if it did not have so many calories, I would have it daily.... try it.

  • Pros: Freshness
  • Cons: Parking

Best Falafel & Baklava.

by vanessagirl65

Day after first opening we went there, it was busy, however we got big welcome from manager. As an appetizer we had an hummus, babaganoush. It was great.

Later on we got Beyti, as an main course and sauce was amazing.

And my favorite part was the Baklava. It was tasty, fresh, it just like melt in your mouth.

You must check it out. Cheers.

  • Pros: Thumbs up.

Best spot in Hayes Valley

by lizsie

We walked into Hayes & Kebab the first hour after opening and were greeted by the owner himself. The restaurant design is authentic, cozy and makes you feel welcome immediately. We had the lamb kebab and bulgur and also the chicken gyro wrap. BRAVO!! We will be back to try the Moussaka soon. Excellent food.

  • Pros: Food, Ambience
