Stealing Staff

by bwbsf

Careful, the staff here steals. I started out as a fan of this place, even if the doorman can be a little too self-important and the drinks are pricey. My most recent experience - having my leather jacket stolen from the coat check - has really soured me on Slide though.

About a month ago, I inadvertently left my jacket in the coat check after leaving in a hurry at the end of a good night. The next morning I spoke to a very pleasant, courteous and professional young woman, Sarah. She confirmed my jacket was, in fact, still there, and that as a policy Slide would hold onto it for up to 30 days for me to pick up at my first opportunity. On my first try, it was too early in the evening and no one was there. The next time I stopped by, Sarah had taken some time off and the person I spoke with could not find my jacket. She saw a record that it had been there and no record it had been donated to charity or picked up, and she recommended I call back once Sarah had returned to see if she knew what had become of it. She didn't. After looking into it, the best she could offer me was that there were over 70 people on staff, she had been gone for two weeks, and she gave me a fax number to claim reimbursement.

The fax number I was given was for Ruby Sky next door. Apparently they are connected through ownership. I faxed everything as instructed and received no response. I called to follow up and received no response. Sarah has been a pleasure to deal with but the rest of Slide is questionable. No one from management seems concerned that someone in their staff is stealing customer property. I'm sure that with what they make ripping people off on drinks, they could afford to pay for my jacket.

I have usually enjoyed the music and there's almost always a good looking crowd, but if you're going to Slide, stick to the warm nights when you don't need a jacket. This place just can't be trusted to do the right thing.

Beautiful Club

by asherrin

This is a great spot and the staff makes sure the room isn't full of a bunch of guys or girls. It can be hard when you have a large group of guys and aren't going for table service but the place is very well appointed and worth checking out.

Terrible

by mmary

My girlfriends and I wanted to check out Slide... it's exclusiveness was appealing. Their rules are ridulous. We had 5 girls and were waiting for my brother to come. They wouldn't let him in once we already entered the club. I guess I understand not wanting an overload of men in the club, but they are totally ridiculous. What difference does it make if he came through the door with us or later?

On top of it, the place was filthy, it smelled like sweat and sewage. The bartenders were rude and acted like they hated their job. I couldn't even pretend to have a good time in this place.

SLIDE in SF...you gotta READ THIS!!

by cd55

We decided to celebrate my 26th and my cousins 25th birthday last night (a Saturday) @ slide. The music was nice (Zhaldee), but I am upset at how the night started. I would like to understand the slide's reasoning for only letting a one girl for every guy ratio. My brother had to wait outside alone while everyone else was inside. Please tell me if I am wrong, but aren't guys the ones who spend the money to buy the drinks? I had seen several males get in who are not accompanied by a female. I never have experienced anything like this before and I have gone to many many club in the city. Another thing the bouncer, told us that the other people in our party had to wait in line, but when I looked outside all I can see is a crowd of people gathered at the door. My cousin's boyfriend had a table last night and the person who made the arrangements should have let him know that there was a boy-girl ratio. He paid $700 for one table. We had several people who didn't even bother and just went to another place. So if you are still willing to go there, be prepared to wait for more than an hour and bring the same amount of girls as boys.

  • Pros: music
  • Cons: employees, boy-girl ratio, waiting time to get in

SLIDE - BEST LOUNGE IN THE CITY!!!

by rolosf

This place is GREAT!!

I don't understand all the people whining and complaining. Yes it is hard to get in sometimes because the place is small and fills up fast, but if you get there early enough you will have a chance to get in. The door men are doing a great job managing all the rude people trying to push their way in at times. We have never had a problem getting in, we get there early and are seated right away. Table service has always been excellent, the waitresses go out of their way to make sure that all of your needs are met. As for the overpricing issues...first there is NO COVER charge, and the drinks are reasonably priced, where in the City can you go to a lounge that does not have a cover charge and the drinks are way overpriced. Here is the biggest plus, if you want to party more, after 2am just go upstairs to Ruby Skye for afterhours partying. We highly recommend this place to anybody.

  • Pros: Great ambience, beautiful people
  • Cons: small - but intimate

Overrated, overpriced club who doesn't value their customers

by stacey918

If you want to go to a club where the bouncers and workers have no value for you and treat you like disposable cattle, this overpriced, overrated, and pretentious nightclub will be perfect for you.

It took me 30 minutes to get one drink last night. After I got my drink, I went upstairs for a ciggarette. When I tried to get back in, the bouncer told me I Couldn't come back in (even though there were ins and outs, stamps, and I already paid). He gave me no reason why, and when I told him I was going to tell the manager about him he called me a punk and told me to get the "$@ck out of here". I was shocked that they would treat their paying customers like this, and he gave me NO EXPLANATION why he wasnt letting me in.

Besides that point, their attempt to make the club elite and exclusive results in the entire staff being a bunch of arragont jerks, and the club is usually overcrowded with a stuck up crowd, overpriced drinks, and mediocre decor. Everyone I know has had some bad experience with their staff, and all my friends have agreed to black list this place and not support a business that doesnt care about their customers.

  • Pros: Decor is decent
  • Cons: Overpriced, Rude Staff, Bad Service, Overcrowded

Great, AMAZING Bar!...Give it a chance

by krycol

While I can see how people dislike slide, I have to disagree with the people who gave slide poor reviews. I'm from Orange County and come to San Francisco once or twice a month and I visit Slide every time. It's a beautiful bar and everyone should try to experience it at least once. The vibe is amazing, very few people were rude there. The drinks are very cheap compared to Orange County and the service is speedy in comparison to other bars. I went down the slide...I mean really, how can you go to a place called slide and take the stairs!

The very first time I went I didnt even stand in line. I, too, was told it was guestlist/a private party by people in the line and I had no clue I was supposed to do that. I just went right up to the front of the line and talked to the bouncers. Two seconds later my girls and I were inside without a single hassle. The bouncers even took pictures with me and watched after me when I was too drunk to function and goofing off outside.

All in all, I never have more fun than when I'm at Slide. I'm even doing bottle service for my birthday in January...that's how amazing it is. I wouldnt make my friends travel 400mi for nothing. My advice to people is: its all in the attitude...if you want to get in act like you do and dont take no for an answer. I think the bouncers care more about how assertive and funny you are than anything else. I was wearing jeans, for goodness-sake. So take a chance on this place, because you may just enjoy it.

  • Pros: Superb service & atmosphere
  • Cons: the actual slide is only open at certain times

Slide: Horrible - New York attitude in SAN FRANCISCO

by neelm0

I was at Slide one night and I was astonished by the behavior of the bouncers. My friend was in from New York to hang out. He sat down on a booth to take a drink of water near the end of the night. Then he got up and started to dance. And then the unthinkable happened. A red-headed bouncer with a a short-cut Leprechaun beard tapped on his shoulder and told him to "come talk to me over in the corner." Then he told my friend to leave the bar. My friend was minding his own business, not bothering anyone. The bouncer didn't even have the guts to tell my friend why he had to leave. After pleading for an explaination, I was finally told by the bouncer that a girl had told him that she was "uncomfortable" with my friend sitting in that spot. So we were kicked out of the bar! If you are into attitude and annoying bouncers that think they rule the world, Slide is your place. But I recommend avoiding this place at all costs. There are lots of cool places in the city that have better music, less attitude and a better crowd.

BTW, you are allowed to "slide" into the place but you can also take the stairs. Most people just walk down the stairs. There's very little that distinguishes this place from any other place in the city.

I dont reccomend going here

by gaylelink

So, I looked this place up and noticed that there were more bad reviews than good reviews but decided to take a chance b/c I knew a couple people that liked it. Bad choice! I called a week ahead to ask questions and to make sure that there were no surprises. I wanted the night to run smooth and once I got the ok from them I went ahead and asked about 15 people to join me. So, I get there with 5 people all dressed up and they said that it was guest list only. I was like, "What!?". I said that I had called and that the person on the phone didn't metion that AT ALL! The ONLY thing that they said is that there was no cover and that to get there early b/c it gets crowded quick so to to ensure getting in its best to get there between 9-11pm. Ok, we did that. So there I was feeling like an idiot because my party was looking at me like now what? I was embarressed and was so frustrated because I was avoiding this situation. They had horrible customer service. All I got was blank stares and snotty attitudes. There was no we're sorry. I think that they should have made an exeption being that it was there fault. Not that we're to good but I wasn't going to beg. I thought I had taken care of all this. I did ask do we have to wait till a certain time or did we have to wait in a certain line? She said that we might get in if we had an equal girl/guy ratio. That was another thing that shocked us. Like I said the person on the phone didn't mention anything like this. I would not reccomend this place at all. I was so dissapointed. I even heard them turn away a party that had paid for a table because of the girl/guy ratio thing. And I know they paid alot b/c I asked about that too. The cheapest table was about $300. Thats how they treat their guests. I rather go spend my money somewhere else. There service was the worst I've ever experienced!

  • Pros: Good music I've heard
  • Cons: bad service, cant get in
