the food was excellent. a bit pricey, but absolutely excellent.
by kdlc
ok, so when they first opened-up, they had a sign that said "due to the crab yada, yada issue, our all you can eat special is cancelled". somehting like that. i thought it was pretty uncool to air out the dirty laundry, so i never bothered to go there.
this friday, my husband passed by and he said that they have lobster rolls, so we should try it. i'll be darned! the food was excellent. a bit pricey, but absolutely excellent.
Great food but be prepared to wait
by ohiochick
I have been here several times and have always enjoyed a great meal. In fact, the cioppino might be the best I have ever had. It is amazing! My one complaint...it takes forever to get your food. I have been when it's filled and when it's empty...it doesn't matter. You are waiting for half an hour no matter what.
- Pros: Food
- Cons: Wait time
Love the Food Love the Staff
by danlouise
My husband and I eat here a couple of times a week. The crab is fantastic and they have the best spaghetti in the neighborhood. The fresh vegetables are grilled perfectly everytime. The staff is friendly and works as a team to make sure every customer is satisfied. The only downside for me is that they serve food in baskets which is a little too casual for me.
- Pros: Great crab, spaghetti and service
- Cons: Some food served in baskets
Avoid

The decor really drew me in because it looks like a good seafood restaurant. Unfortunately, it's really a waste of time and money. The crab in the cocktail was salty. The cooked dungeness crab was not good either. The calamari is over-breaded. The cocktail sauce was decent. I won't go back.
- Pros: decor
- Cons: Terrible food, no parking
Seafood shack with unmistakable character on the unlikely urban corner of Market and Church.
by Joanna Currier
The Scene
The room's dressed in sterile whites--gleaming, tiled walls and a parquet floor--but subtle seafood motifs warm things up: antique photography of fishing boats and their crusty crews; mosaic crabs under foot. Paper signs posted in the large windows list the day's specials on lobster or fish-and-chips. Stools at a counter overlook the kitchen; the remaining space seats roughly 35 at plastic tables with red vinyl chairs.
The Food
Simple seafood like a whole, cracked Dungeness crab can be a down-home delight in this part of town, though the dry-humored servers (and young owner) might do well to provide all the necessary accoutrements: melted butter, sourdough bread, bibs, wet naps, bowls for shells. They might also snip the spines off the whole artichokes stuffed with crab and prawns. No matter: It's tough to deny the authentic quirks, or the joy of clam chowder and fresh, fried oysters served no-frills.
really disappointed
by senornathan
I have tried this place twice as it looked cool from the outside. I have been disappointed both times. When I ordered the fried clams the tartar sauce was just mayonaise with nothing else I could find in it. The service is unfortunatley not much better. I was brought my check as I was eating my last bite. Real good to make people feel rushed when the restaurant was empty. From the outside the place looks great but the food does not match the decor.
- Pros: Maine ambience
- Cons: OK food and not good service
great food, lunchtime server rude enough to keep me from coming back.....ever....
by supergirlpw1
this is a great place for those yummy cold crabmeat and shrimp salads. it's got a great decor on the inside including a large screen television that is set into the wall and plays old movies. i liked the ocean motif. unfortunately the server during lunch was so rude to me that the thought of returning turns my stomach. as he came to our table to take our order i asked if the advocado or the artichoke was more popular, and his answer was, "well, i don't know. one's an artichoke and one's an advocado. you need to make a decision." it was one of those humiliating moments where i was totally caught off guard, sitting here taking attitude from this smug waiter with apparent anger issues, wondering how far i should take this. ever have one of those moments that just ruins your afternoon? this was definitely it.....
- Pros: excellent food, nice central location in sf
- Cons: if you aren't one of the neighborhood guys, you are apparently "out of the club"
Exceptional
by adams_eating
The restaurant is across from the Safeway on Market near 16th Street. I went in because I was in the neighborhood. The interior is fairly no-frills, but I wanted seafood. I had no idea I would be writing a review for the place after eating there. I'm picky about the quality of my food.
I ordered the Lobster Roll on the recommendation of the waiter. Never had Lobster Roll before, but like to try new foods. It came on a plain sandwich roll, which made me gasp a little. Where's my San Francisco sourdough roll?! So I started with the coleslaw. Ooh, this is not bad. Moved on to the thick cut onion rings. The batter was coming off a little, but as soon as I tasted one that didn't matter. Exceptional. Now for the Lobster Roll with the plain sandwich bun - ugh. Wait a minute . . . this Lobster is amazing. Now I get the plain roll, which goes perfectly not to interfere with the Lobster. All around, a great seafood meal.
The service was good and pleasant. It's a no frills place. The wine selection could use a premium choice in each category, perhaps one really good red and one really good white. But even so, I'd probably bring a date here . . . which is saying a lot since I normally take dates to more high end places (USC in Manhattan, Boulevard, etc).
Four months ago, the space was a hot dog restaurant. Now it's exceptional seafood for the price. Thanks!
- Pros: The Food, Simple Decor
- Cons: One good wine is needed (both red and white)

The 1/2 dungeness crab was overcooked and dry. My wife's seafood ravioli was almost put together with Elmer's glue. There is no atmosphere here at all, aside from the Safeway sign across the street. Our waiter was wearing sunglasses at every visit (even after the sun went down), and when we asked to have the ravioli boxed up, he brought us a flat box that we had to build ourselves and slop the stuff in there with the fork and geeze, it was my 32nd birthday. It looked good from the reviews and almost romantic. It's like a fast-food restaurant with a wait staff that costs sixty bucks with a couple of glasses of wine. And crappy dry crab!
- Pros: Fast service, way too fast
- Cons: Diner-type environment, dry food
