And the friendliest service award goes to…

by cmjstealth

The service: I asked or waiter what he recommended which was the right decision as he made some fantastic picks (I’d highly recommend trusting them with this approach). What’s more, I don’t think I’ve never met anyone so enthusiastic about sharing their cultural cuisine with others. Our waiter was overjoyed to keep coming back to our table and explain about the cuisine, how to eat, what sauce to use with the chicken, etc. Obviously very proud of the food the waiter even insisted on introduced us to one the chefs at the end who developed a favorite dish. Tons of fun.

The food: The server recommendations (ceviche, lamb stew, and rotisserie chicken) were all amazing. I never would have imagined such new and exciting flavors were possible from what seem like such simple meats (chicken, white fish, etc). The portions were also enormous especially considering the fairly reasonable prices ($10-$15 for most entrees and apps). The chicken was tender, cooked evenly and perfectly, and when eaten with some sort of mustard/pepper sauce was very exciting. The lamb stew was very balanced in spiciness enough to have some great complexity while staying well within my comfort range. I was a little curious about the choice of including potato fries as a side with the chicken entre.... it seemed a little out of place to me and detracted from the culinary culteral "immersion" I otherwise enjoyed.

  • Pros: Amazing food, extremely enthusiastic service, huge portions
  • Cons: The fries detracted a bit from the cultural authenticity

Inka's makes me want to move to Peru!!

by travelbugg1980

This place is amazing. Small dining area, there are not many tables available, and I'd recomend making a reservation for larger (5 or more) parties. The meals are not vegetarian friendly. But if you are a meat-eater, get ready for a treat! Amazing Steaks, seafood & chicken dishes w/ rice and plaintains. I had the Bistek Pobre and practically licked the plate it was so delicious. Also, make sure you save room for dessert--I've never had Peruvian Ice Cream before, but apparantly it is made from some fruit only found in Peru, and although it looks strange--it was delicious!! Even aside from the food (which our entire table of first-time peruvian diners raved about) the service was great. We lingered a long time talking over our meal, and though our server was attentive, he was not at all rushing us out the door. I felt welcome and comfortable, and would recomend Inka to anyone looking for a different dining experience!! Yum!

  • Pros: Food & Service were both above Par
  • Cons: Little hard to find if you've never been before.

Great Food and Customer Service.

by ololi

My family and I were looking for the "right" place to take our "queen" (my wife) for an unforgettable "Mother's Day Dinner". We succeeded. Julio (the owner) was always next to our table giving us the best service we had ever experienced in a restaurant. Considering how difficult it is to be completely satisfied each time we dine out, having a great cook at home, we took the chance of trying this place, after having tried a couple of peruvian restaurants located in San Francisco as well. And we did not go wrong. Food was fresh, delicious and cooked just the way we love it. Definitely, a restaurant we will recommend and go back as many times as possible.

  • Pros: Great Taste and Excellent Service.
  • Cons: No parking.

One of the best

by peru101

We wanted to go to this place for a long time and just last week we had a chance. I am so glad we went. It was TERRIFIC! We ordered Chicharron de Pollo, Chicharron de Calamari, Tallarin Saltado, Arroz con Pollo, and Sancochado. The Calamari came with yucca, a vegetable similar to the potato. The food was cooked just right, with a lot of flavor. The service they have is great too. The owner was so kind, even coming to our table to talk to us. He even held the door for us on our way out. I can definitely say I will go back soon.

Great find!

by agentred

Friendly service and great food. First, I have to rave about the sauce that comes with the bread basket...it is DIVINE!! It is based on a peruvian chile pepper but tastes somewhat like mango. I wish they bottled this stuff! Second, we had the Ceviche Mixto -- very tasty, lots of goodies, and the chunks were quite large and succulent. We also had the Antichuchos (beef hearts), which were killer - especially with the chile pepper sauce served in the beginning. The Pollo a la Brasa was also excellent with that sauce. Nice and crispy outside on that chicken. The servers were very friendly but weren't in our face. I will definitely go back!

  • Pros: Delicious, Friendly
  • Cons: Sparsely decorated

A nice change of pace

by fsufezzik

We tried Inka's this evening after seeing it a block from our home for several weeks. I'm glad we went! The food was cooked perfectly - we had the Pollo Saltado and another chicken dish that was something like chicken fried with egg. Both were excellent, and not like anything else we've had recently. We tried the ice cream for dessert - a bit grainy, but with an interesting, unique flavor that we enjoyed (lacuma, I think it was called). They seem to still be getting their bearings in terms of service - one dish came about five minutes before the other - but they're extra-friendly, even holding the door for us on the way out. We'll definitely try them again.

  • Pros: Delicious food, Friendly
  • Cons: Unpolished service

Worth trying - excellent peruvian food

by enaduris

Checked the place out last week and was very impressed: large selection of peruvian food all executed with care. The owners are Chinese Peruvians who have been in the restaurant business back in Peru, and there is a home touch to all the dishes (the cooks are the owner's parents).

We had and were impressed by:

* the fish ceviche: nicely done; the fish tasted great, and it had all the good sides that should come with ceviche: the red onions, the sweet corn, the yucca, and the sweet potato in a nice, spicy lime sauce (missing those cornnuts that some places do though).

* parihuela: very nice seafood soup with a touch of cream and wine

* pollo a la brasa: their speciality, cooked just right.

This just-opened Peruvian spot dishes up South American specialties and rotisserie chicken in the old Strayfish Sushi locale.
