Belden Taverna a breath of fresh air on Belden!
by lenh1 at Citysearch
Once again Pino(owner of Cafe Tiramisu) has managed to open up another success!
All I can say is rush to Belden Taverna. The interior is quite chic(tastefully decorated) the food is exceptional, the service delightful and attentive! Our waiter was cordial, extremely polite, and quite charming! As expected(just like at Pino's other restaurants, he owns 3 others!) the waiter was Italian, which always adds a bit of authenticity to the experience. He charmed our table with his humor and efficiency! We were greeted by the owner(Pino) and were made to feel at home(just like at Cafe Tiramisu!) In short...Rush to Belden Taverna if you are looking for a quiet, romantic dining experience!
- Pros: Great location, attentaive wait staff, welcoming atmosphere!
- Cons: a bit expensive,, no other cons.
Decent Italian Restaurant
by DoverOs at Citysearch
I went here with a group of people and my date. We decided to share the bill and not order any extras due to the 20% tip. I ordered the Spinach Ricota Ravioli dinner for $16 and my date and I were thinking about ordering the Gourmet Truffle Mac and Cheese for $10 in case the ravioli wasn't enough, but we decided not to. When we got the Ravioli, it was 5 thin and wide pieces, filled with a decent amount of some pesto sauce, surrounded by a red sauce, topped with crunchy spinach (Fried spinach?), and on a large plate that was designed to not allow utensils to scoop up anything. The meal was very tasty, especially the spinach, but 5 thin pieces wasn't even enough for one person. Compared to the large pie tin of $10 truffle mac and cheese ordered by other people in our group, the ravioli was pitiful. After having a hard time trying to get the ravioli on the fork from that evil plate and eating, we were probably the only ones with an empty stomach, and not thanking the chef on purpose.
- Pros: Great bread, good atmosphere and presentation, great taste
- Cons: Some meals are small
What a gem!

We didn't even order a plated dinner and were given the star treatment. The shrimp appetizer and cheese plate were phenominal. The manager served us - when does that happen anymore?? I love the quaint alley location and the Euro bistro feel. I could not help but ooh and ahhh with every bite. Love it!!!!! For those who love true Italian-not the cookie cutter pasta menu but good Italian- look no further.
- Pros: Treated Like Royalty
- Cons: Con? What Con??
Excellent Service

Although my friend already wrote a review of our expereience I feel it necessary to give kudos to Taverna. I thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. The atmosphere reminded me of Europe. There are lights strung from the rooftops across the alley. There is indoor and outdoor seating available. Our waitress was very good but I was most impressed with the manager who was constantly moving. He interacted well with staff and even helped them bring out bread baskets and greet guests. The butter fish was excellent. Go here for the great food and excellent service!!!

This is the first review I have ever wrote , due to the fact that I was extremely satifsfied with this restaurant. I go to many places to eat but from the moment my friend and I stepped foot into Taverna it was a great experience. THe manager Franz came by a few times to check on us and I have never noticed a manager that works equally with his employees as he did. It was very impressive. Plus the food was amazing. I would recommend the butterfish. Great! Great atmosphere to enjoy a great bottle of wine from their selection and enjoy the wonderful tasty food.
- Pros: Location, service, food, and ambience
- Cons: None
Terrible Service
by montanezm at Citysearch
It was a rainy night and our concierge recommended the restaurant. Our party was the last reservation for the night and we were seated outside with another party that was finishing their dinner. Understandably, the indoor seating was full upon our arrival, but there was never any offer to move inside during the night. In fact, as the other patio party left, all the tables were put away. We felt like such an inconvenience, somewhat like orphaned children. When asked to move to the now open tables inside, our waiter then said that it would be rather difficult. The food was delicious but completely difficult to enjoy with rain drops falling on the table. The cold damp street floor caused an unbearable chill during the dinner. When asked to speak to a manager, we were told that he had already left. Nothing was done to rectify the unfortunate experience, even days later when calling to discuss the matter with management. In all the situation caused for a very sad evening. The dinner was above average, but the management was less to be desired. I thought I could overlook it, but you then realize that a great restaurant should come with great service.
- Pros: Inventive dishes
- Cons: terrible service
Excellent Food!

This is one of my favorite new places to eat in the City. I feel like walking in a French alley to a well hidden secret. I've had the tuna tartare also - it has bits of avocado with a little sesame soy. I've also had the day boat scallop surrounded by lobster bisque sauce, and the gnocchi in goronzola sauce.
The meat dishes are generous and flavorful, not overdone and cooked to your specifications. Bartenders are friendly, waitstaff attentive. I have also had the tuna with couscous served with a pesto-like cream sauce. What I like best are the prices - not too high, but the quality of the food that you get makes it such a deal.
- Pros: Ambience (french alleyway), Never have trouble parking since it's in the financial district in the evenings, GREAT food, value, friendly staff
- Cons: Can't think of any
fantastic food!

My friends and I went for dinner on a saturday night, and although the place was busy, our service was great. Not too solicitous, but there whenever we needed something, and very able to offer wine suggestions that we enjoyed. The food was even better. We split appetizers such as the tuna tartar, butter poached lobster tail, and scallops. We all agreed they were great! And everyone thoroughly enjoyed their entrees as well. My Salmon was wonderful, and my friends raved about the steak and butterfish.
I only wish we had left room to try dessert. Oh well, next time...
Check out Taverna on Belden Place!!

First of all, I must say that I love Belden Place and all of its wonderful restaurants. For those of you who know about this unique little street in the financial district knows whats offered, Cafe Tiramisu, Italian, Cafe Bastille,French , & B44,Spanish plus Brindisi and others. But you may not know about the newest one on the block , Taverna, Belden Taverna. I "discovered" it for lunch 3 weeks ago and returned for cocktails and appettizer the following week with friends, and then most recently for dinner on the patio with friends. They loved, I love it and I'm telling you to go and try it out. The food is excellent and offers duck confit for dinner and crab sandwich for lunch, a full bar , fun and friendly staff. Well, I guess that you can say that I love it.
- Pros: Romantic and yet fun not boring. Bring friends and enjoy a good time.
Great lamb dishes

Came here for my birthday dinner with 15 other people and the service and food were great! Highly recommend upstairs for large parties.
I got the grilled lamb tenderloins with three different sauces and thoroughly enjoyed it.
We brought our own cake and after they brought it out to the table, they plated it with a pretty sauce and extra chocolate-covered macadamia nuts. It was an elegant finish to a really beautiful dining experience. Thanks for helping to make my birthday special!
- Pros: outdoor area
- Cons: don't order the steak unless you want it medium ra
