A real local pub!

The bar formerly known as Dylans enjoys a steady clientele and being one of the "locals" myself I enjoy going there on a regular basis for some suds.

The "early shift" after work is an intelligent diverse international and artistic clique who all seem to enjoy conversations and philosophical views at normal levels. For many of them the bar serves as an extended living room (or shall I say Study.....?).

However, later and on weekends a younger crowd comes and it can get at times a bit loud since some guests seem to have a need to express their communications at par with sirens.

The bar hosts several events and BBQ throughout the year and also regular themed events such as Monday nights where a DJ of sorts plays oldies on real shellacs!

All in all it feels like having an extended family and a bunch of friends or drink buddies who always welcome you!

The ornate maroon and gold wallpaper and thick red velvet curtains evoke a high-end lounge, but the kick-back attitude and unpretentious crowd bring this sweet little bar back to casual neighborhood pub levels. The shiny gold, pressed-tin ceiling and suspended lights create a warm glow, as does a pot-bellied stove--complete with crackling fire--in the corner. Neighborhood locals sip pints and mixed drinks at the long wooden bar or cluster around simple wooden tables and chairs.

my favorite bar

The Homestead has an awesome selection on the jukebox, friendly bar staff and good atmosphere. I imagine this is what the bar was like 100 years ago; very comfortable and a great place to sit with friends and just have a drink (the stories those walls could tell...) and if you remember it as Donington Park, you'll like it now too. Worth the visit just to try out the jukebox!

Great re-do!!!!

It's great to see that the history of our great city isn't being totally lost. The Homestead (formerly Dylan's) is a great example of sombody thinking about thinking about the past while creating their future. This is a great bar to go into and have a drink or two and not feel like your being herded into sombody's idea of "pub" or "club." the new owners have created a place that does honor to itself (one of the oldest bars in SF)!!!
