User Reviews for Patxi's Chicago Pizza

We ordered 2 pizzas (thin crust Hawaiian and deep dish Favorite). The Hawaiian's crust's texture was like a biscuit (not pizza crust) and was not thin crust by any means. The deep dish was ok, but no better than Zachary's pizza in the East Bay. The real deal killer was the service though. We knew beforehand the pizza would take a while, but first of all when we decided not to have the onions on the Hawaiian we were charged for 3 toppings instead of 2 (it doesn't take a genius to figure out it only had 2 toppings) and we were offered a box while we were in the middle of eating dinner (as if they were trying to get rid of us). The place was not even full at the time either.

Shopping in hayes valley and Pizza! I didn't even realize this great little spot was around- but i'm glad I do now. We grabbed some quick slices and sat in the front window to people watch. The deep dish is divine! The staff was really nice and friendly too.

Pros: Delicious deep dish!

Two friends and I went to Patxi's on a Friday night. We ordered when we first got there so the pizza would arrive quickly once we sat down. There was a communication error between myself and the person at the register, and a thin crust pizza came to our table. The staff could not have been more professional about making us happy. They let us eat the thin crust Pizza while we were there, and made us a completely new Chicago style one to go, which was ready when we were leaving. The Chicago style pizza was delicious and authentic, and free. We will certainly be going back after getting such good service.

Pros: excellent service and food

Cons: ambience is lack luster, a bit bright and hollow

I know thick crust is great and, all and Paxti's does a great job of making it, but I am addicted to their thin crust hawiian! I live near by, so I frequently get pizza to-go from here. I won't go anywhere else for pizza now. The crust on both the thick and the thin pizza is corn crust, and I only eat corn crust pizza now. So, if you don't like corn crust, then don't bother with Paxti's, but if you have never had corn crust pizza you should give it a try. It doesn't make you feel terrible afterwards either the way a regular white flour pizza crust will.

Pros: food is ready fast, corn crust pizza!

Cons: parking

Having a great deep dish pizza restaurant in the city is a must. The crust - whether you get whole wheat or regular - has a nice salt flavor to it. I was very pleased with our order - not to heavy for deep dish pizza. The wait staff was prompt to greet us. Suggested we place our order and perhaps get a drink across the street while table became available. By the time 30 minutes rolled around, we had a table and pizza served within minutes. The only fault at Patxi's is the ambiance. No music, too bright, and the TVs make it too sports-bar-like.

If you crave a different pizza experience try a deep dish here. Initially the wait of 30 - 40 mins. for a pie seemed daughtingly long, but fortunately the beer selection on tap saved the day....although it meant we couldn't eat as much pizza when it finally arrived. The pizza's are very impressive with fresh ingredients and a good tomato sauce that wasn't overwhelmed with oregano and sugar.

Pros: Deeply Delicious

Cons: Slow baking

Editor's Review

Lower Hayes pizzeria serves salads and saucy Chicago-style pies.  See the full editorial review.
