Good coffee, too pricey

by Cheezenrice

The prices are a wee bit too high, but on the plus side--it is NOT a chain! Very good lattes. Service sometimes grumpy. NOTE: Be wary of reviewers who write lengthy, glowing, and unabashedly favorable reveiws as they are almost surely professional plants. It's easy to figure out who they are--read their other reviews (they are never, EVER negative).

  • Pros: Tasty
  • Cons: Pricey

Not worth the wait

by susansf04

After reading the great reviews of Blue Bottle Coffee, we tried the coffee today. It was just okay. The flavor of the drip coffee was good, but the coffee was served lukewarm. We waited over 5 minutes for warm coffee.

  • Pros: coffee had good flavor
  • Cons: it was served warm

Local artisan microroasters bring organic coffee to Hayes Valley.

by Contributor

This alleyway coffee kiosk was the first location of the cult East Bay-based roaster, thought by many to make the best cup in San Francisco. Neighborhood locals and coffee cognescenti line up for the rocket fuel grade blend--narcotic-grade jitters can result from overconsumption--as well as organic pastries and bags of beans to roast at home. Everything's to go, unless you're lucky enough to snag one of the two small sidewalk tables.

AMAZING New Orleans Iced Coffee!!!!

by pearljam888

This was the best coffee drink I have ever tasted. The baristo was very friendly and explained to me what made it so tasty. I had to get a 2nd one. You MUST try this!!!!

  • Pros: AMAZING coffee!
  • Cons: It's hard to find. It's in some weird alley thing. We had to sit on the curb.

some good some bad

by seacliffdweller

bought half pound each of the Yemen Mattari, Wotona and Chiapas. the Mattari and Wotona were good, the Chiapas is a melange blend and i felt the lighter roast were under roasted (sour tasting). e-mailed blue bottle coffee about the Chiapas and did not receive a response. seems customer service is not up to standard

  • Pros: Wotona and Mattari were good
  • Cons: avoid the Chiapas

The most amazing coffee ever

by lisainsfo

This coffee truly takes it to the next level. The iced coffee is the best I have ever had - a perfect balance between chicory and sweetness. Definitely worth the trip.

  • Pros: Amazing coffee
  • Cons: pricey, no where to really hang out.

Coffee and attitude.

by rocamewl

Coffee is great. Servers' attitude leaves much to be desired. Bordering on straight-up rude. What's become of customer service these days?

  • Pros: coffee
  • Cons: service

this is the place to get coffee

by raytchul

I recently moved to San Francisco, and my friend took me to Blue Bottle to get coffee. I got the iced coffee, strangely one of the most expensive items on the small menu, but it was absolutely perfect. Perfectly sweetened, not acidic, it was really just right. It was so good in fact that I returned a few days later to try the cappucino. This was seriously one of the best I've ever had. The prices are a little steep for the sizes, but the quality is so worth it. The best coffee, by far.

Best lattes in the city

by lipsmackingood

This little spot in Hayes Valley has gotten progressively more busier as word has spread about Blue Bottle Coffee Co. The beans are fresh roasted daily at their roastery in Oakland, and all drinks are made one at a time infront of you. Milk is steamed in small pitchers just enough for one cup at a time which results in a creamy rich foam latte, not simply steamed burnt milk aka Starbucks.

Due to the drinks being made one at a time though, prepare for a short wait if there are customers ahead of you. However you can't wait in line without sparking a converstion with either the freindly baristas or other other customers in line.

Like another reviewer said no fancy flavors here just honest to God high quality lattes, Mochas, drip coffee or espresso made with organic Clover milk or soy.

They also sell 1/2 pound bags of their whole bean coffee blends roasted fresh daily, I recommend the 3 Africans blend (its sells out quick, so grab a bag if you spot one )-its fantastic.

Its a cash only operation so make sure you have some greenbacks on you before you order.

On Fridays and Saturdays Blue Bottle also has two carts at the Ferry Building during the farmers market.

If you want to try real lattes and espressos they way they are supposed to be experienced then this is the place for you. Be warned though, you may never be able to revisit a Starbucks or Petes again after tasting a Blue Bottle latte.

  • Pros: Fantastic espresso and lattes
  • Cons: None to mention

Delicious Coffee

by lillafury

Tiny teeny storefront--not even really a storefront, but more of a counter in front of a wood working shop. The menu is small--various cookies, espresso, cappucinos, macchiatos, and mochas. No funny flavors, no weird sizes, just delicious coffee, made fresh with freshly roasted beans. All shots are ristrettos, so you get the full effect of the delicious coffee flavor. This is the way that espresso should be. Highly recommended. Note--Linden Street is really more of an alley--so if you blink, you'll miss it!
