It was a cold day in the city and I ran into this little gem south of market. I asked for the chai and it was the best ever... try for yourself..

BAD service. rude waiter. over priced

by kkli

At first, I thought the place would be a good place for group gatherings, boy was i wrong! the service was slow, the waiter was rude and was giving us facial expressions throughout the entire meal--> she probablt hates her job! she doesn't have any respect to customers as well. Also, the bill came out to be way more than we all expected. other places usually have a note in the menu that states a 18% charge will be made for a party of so and so and over BUT this place didnt. It was only for lunch too! Also, the waiters had many chances to warn us about the 18% and the extra service charges IF we bring in something BUt they didn't. worst experience ever! DO NOT GO THERE! WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME! THE SANDWICH I ORDERED WASN'T EVEN GOOD! THE BREAD WAS HARD!!! please just go somewhere else

Great experience from beginning to end!

by abbylax3

My first contact with Triptych was with David, the owner. I spoke with him a week before my get together & from our first conversation to the end of the actual dinner - my experience was positively great. He was extremely helpful & informative; he gave me the option of a set price menu ranging from $35 -$50 & catered to the price that I gave My group of 18 people got a DELICIOUS 5 course meal. We all got the soup du jour- hearty and VERY YUMMY, the sashimi - makes my mouth water as I remember how DELICIOUS the butterfish was, the crispy tofu salad was light & healthy & YUMMY! The main courses were EXCELLENT - from the meat/fish choice pork osso bucco, leg of lamb, pan-seared salmon to the vegetarian dish, quinoa & tofu... we all had the chance to taste them and that's when I started hearing how this was a place that they would COME BACK TO! Finally, dessert... 3 different type of creme brulees and a pyramid noisette - DELICIOUS!

The restaurant itself was very, very cool - the artwork , the decor really set the ambiance for a nice & relaxed place to have a group of friends get together; I would definitely go back here for a romantic date - it's not your typical snobby, snooty place where the price of the food definitely does not match up to the quality that you're paying for. The bathroom is pretty damn cool... love the 70's look - brought back some of my friends to their youths!

David & his staff were very kind, helpful, & really paid attention to my group. I was fortunate enough to meet David himself who was even nicer in person! I highly recommend this place & if you want to do a big group thing, this place is perfect! One friend said to me, "SF has great restaurants, after awhile, I found that I'm just not impressed, however, this one - I am and would definitely come back."

  • Pros: Everything! Even parking! You just have to get there before the night revelers come out on a weekend night!

Good food, Bad Art, Worth a Visit

by omnigirl

What a gem on Folsom!

Triptych has something delicious no matter what your palette. The beignets were light, fluffy and sweet. The champignon omelette was as good as omelettes can get (I'm not a huge omelette fan in general) and the Tryptych burger was flavorful without being too greasy.

The restaurant also has an extensive tea menu which is pleasant for those wishing to sit and chat. Unfortunately, the decor doesn't really encourage chatting. Tasteless, overly art decorates the wall, so graffiti and canvases filled with scribble distracted me from my meal. Sorry, SoMa artists, but distorted breasts drawn with a Sharpie does not a Picasso make. And hastily-drawn, ugly bodies are not by default "edgy," "hip" and least of all, "funky."

However, the food was good, the cost is affordable and overall we were very happy with our meal. I will be returning.

  • Pros: Great food, variety on the menu, affordable
  • Cons: Bad ambience, poor art, water tasted a little funny

Goodp portions, great flavors, and an eclectic yet comfortable atmosphere

by anjelone

The interior of Triptych feels like someone's downtown studio apartment. Not the kind that has old clothes and dirty dishes strewn about, but the one where you are amazed that they've fit so much personality and urban sass in with so much comfort. It was not too crowded the Tuesday evening we visited, so the food came quickly, the service was perfectly timed, and the atmosphere welcoming. The menu was diverse with items like steak, salmon, and wild mushroom ravioli. It included a couple tempting deserts. My only change would be a slight widening of the menu from typical fares, but I always look for something not found on other menus. Everything ordered though, was wonderfully flavored with no lacking of identity in the food. If I lived in the neighborhood, this place would probably be frequently visited.

  • Pros: Ambience and the food packs flavor.
  • Cons: When busy it might get hectic or loud.

Creative and delicous...

by jocelynneudecker

Triptych offers a wide variety of styles with regards to their menu. The food is creative and delicous and the atmosphere is warm and unique.

Also, they are very easy to work with for private parties, as the owner is always there and available.

Great restaurant!

by seymour77

I had dinner here on a Friday night and had a great time. It has a very casual and comfortable, yet sophisticated feel. The food, along with great presentation, was very unique and tasty. There are several vegetarian options. The service was also great.

Glad we ran into this spot!

by heatherjw76

We happened upon this spot while wandering about the SOMA area. Great staff, wonderful light lunch fare (translation: food was really good) and fast service! We also picked up a wonderful piece of art. They ship pieces so we didn't have to take it back to Florida with us. Definitely will be back here when we're back in San Francisco!

  • Pros: Food was really good and fresh, great staff, finding great art
  • Cons: None

Nice owner, just OK food

by robin_bleiweiss

I went there for my friends b-day.

Salad good, pasta ---really good-Dessert-BORING. We were a big party, but the server NEVER asked if we wanted wine, beer, etc...came and went and everyone at the table felt like---Why aren't they serving us?

It was weird-I might give it another try in a more intimate setting, but dinner for 20 overwhelmed them.

  • Pros: Nice staff
  • Cons: Where can a gal get a drink?
