I am the owner of Flip and have no idea what the previous reviewer is talking about!! I would never let a client leave with half of her hair done or demand that she pay. Fake reviews are so obviously fake...

I went in to get my hair straightened and they took and said no problem. I have curly hair but its so easy to straighten. I just wanted to have it done due to time. I've gone to many salons all over the world (LA, SF, SD, London, Dublin Ireland, Spain, Italy, etc) and the girl told me after she started that my hair is impossible to straighten. She left my hair frizzy, and fluffy. The owner, came up and and agreed with her stylist. What ever happen to the customer is right!! I ended up walking out after she had done just about half my head. The owner stopped me and demanded I paid full price. My hair looked like a 5year old had tried styling my hair. I reluctantly paid and was so upset. GET YOUR HAIR DONE THERE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I hope things have changed since I was there!

I started coming here because its within walking distance of my house. I've seen four different people, but my favorites are Taylor and Shannon Smith (not the owner- the other one). Both gals have been great about cutting my hair exactly as I tell them or offering suggestions when I am feeling a bit racey. No pressure to buy their products - they always make suggestions but they're fine when I say "eh, no thanks." Taylor is newer and she's so friendly and easy to talk to. Shannon is bubbly and energetic. Two thumbs up.

I love Flip - Chelsea is amazing, one of the best colorists I have ever been to! I found them a couple od f years ago through a Spa Week promotion and have not gone anywhere else since!

Pros: amazing cuts & coloring; no sales pressure

Cons: can be tough to book appointments

I recently visited flip to get a highlight and haircut. My stylist was Chelsea. She did an absolutely fabulous job on my hair. She gave me some new recommendations for the color which were genius. The cut turned out just as good. I already booked my next appt and cant wait to go back. Go see Chelsea if you know whats good for you.

As a guy new to the $50 haircut I was reluctant to venture into Flip-It is located around the corner from my apt and I walk by every day...after being pestered by my girlfriend to get a better cut, I went in and got the owner-Shannon to cut my hair. She has alot of experience, explained why scissor over comb grows out better and got me to buy a product-I have always used what someone gave me...all in all a great experience and I'll go back as I have now stepped up a notch on the maintenence ladder!!

Saw Shannon at Flip (also the owner) last week and after 5 compliments over the weekend, I had to join Citysearch and give her a shout-out!!!! My highlights are a great mix of blondes that look natural but..with that extra pizzaz. She suggested the shades to compliment what I had been getting done and also to brighten a blah lowlight someone in that neighborhood (don't bother with ANY OTHER place on Chestnut) had given me. I am a convert and now a loyal client. They have evening hours and Saturdays are fun-they also have Bumble-saves me a trip downtown.

Was moderately satisfied with my highlights, cut and blowdry the last time I went, so I made another appointment. Big mistake. Not only did they get the time of my appointment wrong, when I got there at the exact time of my appointment at 3, they told me that they had my appointment scheduled for 2:45 and had a 15 minute cancellation policy. By then, they had taken a walk-in but the stylist could probably take me in 20-30 minutes. So I canceled my following appointment ,got a cup of coffee and wasted 20 minutes of my extremely scarce "free time" time walking around Chestnut. When I came back 30 minutes later, the owner herself told me that it was now 10 minutes after 3:30 and they close at 5 so there was no way they could take me because it was a 2 hour appointment. So, why did you tell me to come back at all? And now because I came back at 3:40 instead of 3:30, they simply couldn't take me. Please, it's the difference of 10 minutes! I might be griping a bit, but seriously it's 10 minutes. They could have had a return, loyal customer by just staying open 10 minutes later. I expect I lot more out of a small business owner than that. Ruined my whole day. There are too many good salons in this city to have horrible service like that.

Pros: Good location. Decent highlights. Not as pricey as some other places in the neighborhood.

Cons: Horrible service.

I am always complimenting my friend on her highlights and she finally convinced me to see her long-time stylist-Shannon at Flip (she's the owner too). Another GREAT incentive is they are having a referral program for a few months and my friend gave me a 25% off cupon..making it a great deal. I love my super shiny, golden and baby blonde natural looking not streaky highlights. Her blow-out was great and I will return soon for a cut. I loved the salon, no waiting and the staff was very personable and friendly. I think I will miss the shopping from Union Square that I usually do when I get hair services but going here is so much more convenient for me and I can walk from my house-a PLUS!!!!
