Hugely disappointing

by sf4u

Despite the high prices, I?ve grabbed lunch at Sellers Market a few times because it?s convenient to my office and the food usually tastes good. On both of my last two visits though, I got the steak sandwich and was hugely disappointed. Yes, I should have learned the first time not to order it again, but I believe in second chances, so I tried it twice. What a mistake! The steak sandwich is a joke. I am not exaggerating when I tell you that they use less than an ounce of meat on the sandwich. Both times I ordered this sandwich, I lifted up the bread and found just four pathetic slivers of beef and then some rubbery mushrooms thrown in as filler. I ended up dissecting what they gave me, taking the contents of one half to fill the other half, and the combined half-sandwich still disappointed. $10 for that? You?ve got to be kidding me! When they called it Sellers Market they weren?t kidding ... because the buyer is getting ripped off. From now on I?ll walk the extra couple of blocks to Focaccia ... it?s overpriced too, but at least their sandwiches have something between the bread.

  • Pros: Tastes good
  • Cons: Skimpy portions, overpriced

Best Salads & Sandwiches!

by evs

If you are into sustainable foods with great flavors and fast service from a great looking staff that cares this place is for you! My friends and I have been raving about this place since it opened and are now concerned that we may not get a seat on their huge out door sunny patio. I don't know what is better the food or the view of all the beautiful people! I Love this place!

BBQ Chicken Salad is the best but . . .

by robertlnovak

Stick with the salads especially the BBQ Chicken but other items on the menu are overpriced and lack flavor.

This casual Financial District eatery delivers fast, fresh food from local farms and artisans.

by Joanna Currier

Taking a cue from the nearby Ferry Building Farmer's Market, "fast food" here features high-quality ingredients from sustainable, small-batch artisans and farmers. Fresh, local, organic produce, free-range meats, artisanal breads and cheeses comprise tasty mid-day salads and sandwiches. Breakfast begins at 7:30am, and features flatbread frittata "pizzas" and toasty tartines. Convenient, casual UnionSquare/Financial District location is pretty enough for sit-down fare, though it can get cramped and noisy. Take-out is encouraged.

great steak salad and choc. chip cookies

by jhh1981

The service was fast considering the line I waited in just to order. The food was great and well worth the wait. It's always nice to have a new lunch place open up close to work that doesn't leave you feeling sluggish and greased up when you head back to the office.

Most incredible tomato soup ever

by cdelrio

I didn't know tomato soup could be so unbelievably flavorful and perfect. Just slightly spicy, robust but not overly creamy - a must try.

  • Pros: Delicious, sustainable, organic food; decent prices
  • Cons: Crowded, hectic at lunch

Really, really good!!

by patrickbad

OK I'm what you call old fashioned. I like lots of food and great value. So when I went I was prepared to still be hungry when I left. I had the BBQ chicken salad. THis salad was so good I ate every bite. The ingredients are made of high quality. And you can taste it in every bite. The tomato soup is very good as well. I think this place is going to become more and more popular. And after you taste the food the prices seem very fair. I would tell anyone to eat here!

  • Pros: food, value, food
  • Cons: not enough locations, busy

Great Organic Salads

by dancergirl21

This is one place in the Financial District to go when you want a great organic, sustainably grown salad that tastes great. I love their signature Barbeque Chicken Salad - not to be confused with 'chicken salad' - this is barbeque chicken layered over greens, tortilla chips, corn, cheese, other veggies - it's great! I love the fact that the barbeque chicken is warm off the presses. I've enjoyed their sandwiches as well, but I think the Barbeque Chicken Salad is #1.

  • Pros: Fantastic Organic Salads in the Financial District
  • Cons: A Little Pricey, I wouldn't recommend breakfast

Best Downtown Lunch, 2 Great Location

by mechee

December 12, 2006

Seller Markets now has two locations with the second one on 2nd and Market, they now have outdoor seating (Covered w heat lamps) beer, wine and new menu items such as ribs and unique sandwiches. They still have all the classic menu items which are never a dissapointment when I order them. If I was to recomend anything I would say the pulled pork sandwich or the ribs which have the perfect spice to them also, you can never go wrong with the salads...my compliments to the chef!

  • Pros: Organic Food, Friendly Staff, Fast Service, affordable, Great Food
  • Cons: Need more locations, There should be many more!

Best take-out relatively fast lunch in the financial district

by tralition

I love the ethic of this place--sustainable food that's relatively inexpensive, quick, and always delicious. (In particular I favor the chicken salad and chicken sandwich; the pizzas are good, but a bit small, and the salads are terrific as well.) Service is prompt, it's busy at lunch, the people are friendly. All around great place to eat (though prices went up so maybe not the best value if you're looking for an inexpensive lunch; it'll be $10 without a drink).

  • Pros: Locally procured food that's fresh, tasty, and delicious.
  • Cons: Prices went up. Cumbersome line for ordering. Can get crowded.
