I live in Boston and visited Kamalaspa in February during a vacation. I was feeling really stressed out about going - was worried about getting a high quality cut & color and also about feeling welcome/relaxed in the environment. Lisa did my color first and I could not have been more pleased. I had serious gray roots to cover and also wanted highlights. She really listened to my requests and asked questions to make sure we were in synch. She took a great deal of time and care with my highlights. I was thrilled that she took so much time and was so dedicated to the end result. She was also very kind and welcoming and I felt like my experience was genuinely important to her. Both the base color and the highlights were the best I've ever had. I have never had so many compliments, it could not have been a better experience. I then moved on to my cut with Cary and he was also a delight. He made me feel very comfortable and also took a great deal of time and care to make sure he understood what I wanted. I have never experience a cut with such attention to detail. He has a very warm and caring manner and he made me feel very comfortable. He is truly an artist but didn't make me feel like I was just an art project. If I could afford it, I would fly back to SF to see Cary and Lisa every time. I'll have to settle for annual vacation visits. I would strongly recommend them to anyone coming in from out of town who wants a special look to commemorate their trip and also wants to be treated like visiting royalty. Thank you Lisa and Cary.
Pros: Beautiful environment, caring manner of team
Cons: None

All clients are encouraged to call if they have any questions or issues with their service. Messages are monitored and promptly addressed by management on a daily basis and none were received in regards to the complaint posted by zibbyz on 1/15/08. Although this is some place you think only your girlfriend/wife should go to--think again. Its quiet, soothing, covenient--right on Union square-- and for a great haircut with no fuss or overdoing it--see Cary Carter--professional, curteous, attentive, and efficient. Everything you need--nothing you dont want.

Had color by Lisa - not good at all. I wanted to go blond (I was brown) and now...well, I think tiger stripes/bad barbie doll hair is probably the best description. It took three hours, I let her know I was not happy. She finally said I could have the look I wanted (I had three photos) but it would take 3-4 more highlight sessions. Good lord - I said I wish she would have told me that, as I would have made another decision. She did one "phase" and blew it dry, my old stylist Edgardo walked by - look at it and asked if she had seen the photos of what I wanted. Enough said! I am going to call them tomorrow and see if there is another colorist that can do something. update: Well I called and called and called --- 8 messages. The manager called me back 3 weeks after my appointment. She was amazingly rude. another update: I wrote the owners (Chris & Amber Marie Bently - local socialites) and have received NO response.... No excuse for this kind of customer abuse. Edgardo might give great hair - but I am giving my business to a salon that wants it/deserves it.
Pros: Interior decor
Cons: Management does not care about clients

If you want a few hours of pure bliss, to be pampered beyond words, to feel lke a queen and to escape the craziness of the city, Kalamaspa is the place to be so indulged. From the minute I got off the elevator, I was transported to another world. The staff, including the receptionists, are friendly, thoughtful and indulgent. I felt like everyone was there just to please me. Heaven on earth! The spa is quiet, other-worldly and almost ethereal. They took care of my every whim, before I could even think of asking. Arty D'Angleo is the BEST facialist ever. I followed him to SF from LA and he is worth the plane ride. He not only gives the most wonderful facials, but just being around him is relaxing and calming. His kind soul and beautiful smile make the facial even more wonderful. The spa, especially Arty, is worth every penny and more.
Pros: Wonderful, calming atmosphere. Other-worldly. Fabulous escape
Cons: None

I recently was in SF for business and decided to try out Kamalspa for a haircut on a walk-in basis. I was with a colleague and we didn't have a lot of time as we were between meetings. The receptionist consulted with stylist Cary Thomas Carter and he graciously agreed to take on the dual challenges represented by our time limitations and my unruly hair. The result? A terrific new look that suits my hair type and lifestyle. Thank you to Cary --You are a kind and consummate professional. Thank you as well to my colleague, Isabel, who surprised me with a pair of Amber's carnelian earrings. Exotic and unique- - just like Kamalspa itself. I will visit again.
Pros: Relaxing decor and professional, friendly staff

I am new to San Francisco and was referred to Cary at Kamala Spa by a friend who has had Cary cut his hair for many years. I couldn't be happier with the haircuts and colorings I've received from Cary the past 6 months. Cary is a very talented stylist. He pays great attention to detail and gives a very precise cut. My hair is very thin and fine, and difficult to work with, but his haircut always helps give my hair more body and life. He also does a great job coloring my hair. It looks very natural and seems to give my hair more body, too. I always look forward to my haircut with Cary at Kamal Spa. I usually enjoy a complimentary glass of wine during my visit. The staff and other stylists are all very friendly and attentive to my needs. This is a great salon and a great stylist. I am delighted to recommend Cary and Kamala Spa to all my friends, or anyone else just looking for a great haircut in a relaxing environment.
Pros: Great haircut/coloring, attentive staff, great location
Cons: A bit pricey, but worth it

I had the most AMAZING massage and shampoo/blow dry at Kamalaspa. I went for the Reiki massage. It was one of the best massages I've ever experienced! It was so healing. Not just for my muscles but for my entire being. I was also able to learn the basics about the practice of Ayurveda from my therapist. The other thing I really appreciated was the way the staff worked together. After my massage my therapist was waiting for me with a glass of water. She then showed me where to change and where I needed to go to get my hair done. After I changed the front desk person made sure that I knew where I was going and offered me wine or champagne. I decided to try a little champagne during my salon treatment. Absolutely wonderful! My hair was awesome. So soft and straight. I left feeling so beautiful and satisfied. Thank you Kamalspa!
Pros: Public transport access, staff
Cons: none

I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS SPA!! From the minute I stepped into this EXOTiC & ELEGANT Spa I was in awe of how "beautiful" the stage had been set for the "Ultimate Spa Experience" . I noticed the gorgeous Indian fabrics draping the ceiling and was mesmerized by the saltwater fish tank in lounge area. Then I was whisked away for the works!! Manicure - pedicure, facial, waxing AND spray tan with outstanding, skilled service people. They also offer "COUPLES MASSAGE" which was how I first experienced KamalaSpa. My husband still talks about how much he enjoyed the experience and demands a monthly "Metro-Sexual" Session every month. Next I plan to schedule hair services, cut, color and styling while looking out onto Union Square and listening to relaxing Indian music. Just what every woman needs - PAMPERING AT IT'S FINEST!! Thank You KamalaSpa - We need you!
Pros: Ambiance & Service
