A different opinion

As a vegetarian and Indian food-lover, I was looking forward to trying New Ganges. My boyfriend and I went on a Friday night and found the entire place to be empty. The food was average (the dishes being just as oily and unhealthy as any Indian restaurant), and I think you are better off going to a really good Indian restaurant and ordering their vegetarian dishes. The owner came in as we were finishing our dinner and proceeded to make a big to do about all of the awards his restaurant had won. He was very aggressive and actually asked me to write a positive review for his restaurant on citysearch (sorry). If the food was really delicious it would speak for itself and there would be no need to try to verbally convince the customers of its quality. New Ganges was a underwhelming dining experience, to say the least.

Surprising reviews!

My husband and I grew up eating Indian food in our homes twice a day. We were excited to find a place that was a 'home-cooked' meal type place and one that had such rave user reviews on Citysearch! When we got there, we found the service to be very friendly and very attentive. But, the food was definitely a disappointment. Certainly not what either of us has ever had in our homes! We would not return. But, luckily, there is now another real home-style Indian vegetarian option in the SoMa that we can go to when we miss REAL good Indian food.
