User Reviews for Miette Cakes

Consistent with other vendors in the Ferry Building, Miette features beautiful products, made from the best ingredients, that are ridiculously overpriced. I frequently visit the cute display cases, and I have purchased several of their pretty desserts. The cakes are rich in taste and colors, and everything is cute and delicate - terrific for impressing guests, aunties, and birthday girls (things are very pink here). Three things that disappointed me about Miette: (1) Everything is pre-made Elsewhere, refrigerated, and shipped to Here (make sure you bring cakes to room temperature before serving) (2) While frosting and decorations are perfect, the actual cakes are unimaginative and standard (euphemism for "not delicious") (3) The staff comes off as pretentious and patronizing (example: One server distractedly refused to add a macroon to a customer's $35 credit card purchase because the credit card approval process was already underway. Worse still, the server was impatient about the customer's broken English - a visitor on vacation from Malaysia - and rudely insisted that the cookie was paid for in cash ). Conclusion: looks great, tastes "eh"

Pros: Beautiful cakes

Cons: Not so delicious

I am appalled by what some others have written about this lovely spot. Obviously, they have not had the pleasure to see and to taste what Miette has to offer. Every single confection I have ever had the gastronomical pleasure of tasting at this sumptuous (in every sense of the word) shop has been enough to make my knees buckle in delight and make me squeal like a five year old. The macarons surpass the "real" french ones I have had...they have this little thing in a jar called "po de creme" that will virtually change your little world. All this and the fact that they barely capitolize on the fact that all the ingredients are local and organic...I love you Miette!!

Pros: Fabulously delicious...what else is there?

Cons: None such!!

I starting patronizing Miette when they were a stall at the old Farmers Market. Their goods were spectacular to look at and tasted as good as they looked. Now that they've moved into permanent digs in the Ferry Plaza, things are not the same. They frequently don't open on time (losing valuable business which I just don't get), so it's difficult to shop with them if you're an early market goer. What's worse is the quality level has diminished significantly. My last purchase was stale. There is no other way to describe it. Service is also a big issue. The staff are frequently aloof and unfriendly even to long time customers. It's sad to say .. but in this case success evidently went to their heads. I so used to look forward to a treat from Miette. Now I pass them by.

We served their chocolate cake with ganache at a recent party with a little homemade whipped cream, strawberries, and raspberries. It was perfect and the guests raved about how delicious it was. The store was also kind enough to keep the cakes in their fridge while we shopped around the farmer's market.

I've tried their desserts when they had a small stall at the outdoor farmer's market, as well as their new location in Ferry Plaza. While the desserts look beautiful, they simply don't have flavor or finesse to match. If only they tasted as good as they look.

Pros: Location, Presentation

Cons: , Quality

I'm sure at one time the cakes were great, but my fiance and I sampled the lemon cake and were very disappointed in the taste. The cake was old and dry. The flavor was awful. We went there after reading the reviews and thought of ordering a wedding cake. Now that we've tasted the cake we will not be coming back. Please fix your quality, I'd like to see this bakery succeed.

Pros: Interior is cute, Great location

Cons: , Dry cake
