Best in the city !!

Some say they left their heart in San Francisco - well that is half true for me as I left my stylist there and miss his wicked skills, charm, and professional attitude. I have NEVER had a bad cut or color and wish I could have taken some of this magic to go. This salon is top notch!! Now please open a Portland location :) You people rock and I miss you!!

Top notch salon for cut and colour!!

I had always had the pin-straight, no body hair blues, until I visited with Aimee. I don't know how she did it, but she cut my hair in such a way that I was able to have lift and volume with my medium/long hair!! She has the savvy and skill to cut and style with perfect angles and layering to give my hair life!! Aimee even highlighted and lowlighted my hair to give it perfect depth!

I am so impressed with Aimee's talent that now my husband goes to her faithfully! I am extremely elated by this because he has been a product of unfortunate barber-shop, $10 hair cuts since I met him 15 years ago.

Without any hesitation I would highly recommend Aimee for a superb cut and style!!!

I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!!!!

I LOVE GOING HERE TO GET MY HAIR CUT!!!!!! Always a great experiece. I've been having Aimee do my hair for about 5 months now...can't complain. She is always making sure she knows what i want. My hair is perfect all the time( thanks to Aimee :p). Aimee is so professional and makes sure I'm happy when i leave even though I have a huge smile on my face, due to my cut, which would give the answer right there. I always refer my friends here. THANKS AIMEE!!!!!!!

Worst haircut I have ever gotten in my entire life...Beware of companies who write their own reviews!

This is the absolute worst and least professional experience of my life. I was really excited about this place, and after reading the reviews and looking at the website I thought that it would be a good match. Upon calling, I was very clear with the receptionist about my needs and desires and she recommended Amy (who I must say I felt uneasy about, but thought I would trust the receptionist that she knew what she was talking about). I arrive there and the receptionist was very kind and polite. Amy acted like she knew what I wanted to hear, but did not deliver. She promised to cut 1 half inch and cut about 2 and a half inches. Additionally, she rushed me out in the last five minutes to do the worst styling I have ever seen done to my hair. I honestly left this place wanting to cry and trying to muster whatever kindness towards these people I still could. Finally I call them, and they say that if I want to go to another stylist I will have to pay the full price or go back to Amy and let her fix her mistake. There is no way I will let Amy touch my hair again. I already trust her once, and I find it ridiculous that they will make me pay for a new haircut. I didn't even want Amy in the first place, but the receptionist convinced me that she was the one. Don't trust these people...better yet don't go here. I was impressed by how the owner responds to the citysearch adds and takes responsibility. That was what gave me confidence that it would be alright even if some of the negative adds in citysearch are true. Well, it is all an illusion...they will make a mistake and won't take responsibility. Worst experience of my life hands down...I have never experienced a worse haircut, style, or overall professional experience. I can't stress this enough...

• Cons: No talent, not professional, lack of communication, don't have clients best interest in mind, won't fix problem, misleading citysearch (possibly write their own reviews), the list could go on...

I understand how uneasy one can feel when visiting a new salon and stylist before even setting foot in the establishment. Mirror, mirror, on the wall...

My haircut with Amy about a week ago is so awesome. It looks cool and modern and has lots of movement. Can't help but stare at myself in the mirror ;)

Great experience, every time.

I have dishwater blonde hair that is wavy and easily gets frizzy. Since finding Jennifer almost three years ago (just after she started at Alexander G,) I have had the most manageable hair that I have ever had. My highlights and lowlights always look great and my cuts are always fantastic. Not only does my hair look great when I leave the salon, but her cuts are so dead-on that I can recreate the just-left-the-salon style in less than 15 minutes with my roundbrush and hairdryer. AND I can still leave my hair curly when I want to.

Thanks, Jenn, for giving me the best hair of my life and minimizing the time I have to spend in front of the mirror in the morning.

Over Rated!! I felt duped! Worst haircut I've ever had!

I chose this salon based on the reviews from this site and I was unfortunately disappointed. I paid top dollar ($85) for the experienced stylist who was "good with short hair." I even brought in clippings from a magazine of my desired haircut to better explain what I was looking for. She started off going at a good pace but I felt she rushed towards the end as her hour was up and another client was already waiting. The rushing at the end, resulted to an uneven haircut. I called to have it corrected and learned that the stylist was on vacation. Since I live and work outside of the city, I was unable to come back when she would return from her vacation. After much explaining and requesting, they were able to accommodate me with a correction appointment a few days later. To my surprise, the gal who was tasked to correct my hair was the gal who was answering phones the first time I was there. (I am assuming that a high end salon wouldn't have their top stylist answer phones.) I felt duped especially having paid for a top stylist! Bless her heart, she was very patient and meticulous, but just not a very good stylist (you just know when you get a good haircut vs. one that isn't). My hair still doesn't fall right and I even need pins to make it look ok for work. What can I do? I have short hair so I'll have to wait til it grows out... This is by far, the worst haircut I have had! Take-away: Over-rated!! At the end of the day, what matter isn't everyone else's reviews /experiences, but YOURS!

I decided not to go based on my "experience"

I've been looking for a nice place to get my hair done. I've purposely looked for a highly rated salon in an effort to get a really nice look I could be proud of. I wanted someone to give me a really nice color - to even out the line around my head because I?m tired of keeping my highlights up. I wanted one color and a cut to clean me up. I called and introduced myself as a first time caller and if I can make an appointment with someone to work with me. Before I explained what I wanted, the receptionist went through a list of stylists, their names, their years of employment and "experience" at the shop, and prices per stylist. I was told that years of "experience" deemed the price of each person's styling services. While I appreciate paying for "experience", I failed to understand what it meant for me and what I needed. I had a specific need, and expected to call and be matched to the stylist most experienced to help me correct my problem. I was not given that opportunity. Instead, I was left to choose based on "experience" and being a first time caller, (and an online marketing executive), I was left to make a decision I was not able to make with confidence. I decided not make an appointment because the first point of contact didn't create an "experience" for me to feel comfortable and confident about spending a lot of money. I rated this below average due to poor customer service, which sadly many pay a premium for when patronizing this salon.

High standards are important to us at Alexander G. Our receptionists are trained to give specific pricing and years of experience each stylist has achieved. Our aim is to allow clients to choose a stylist without feeling pressured. Sometimes, clients will request a consultation with a stylist prior to making an appointment--especially if they have specific needs. I am sorry you were unable to make a decision with confidence. There is a risk one takes when choosing a new salon. Please give us a chance to demonstrate our care for hair.

won the award for a reason

I just moved to SF from LA. The past few times I went to my ex-hairdresser she did not listen and rushed me through the color leaving me dissatisfied twice in a row. Thank goodness I found Aimee at Alexander G in SF. I do not have the funds to pay top dollar so I chose the cheapest out of the four stylists (not that it was a cheap adventure - $190 for full highlights and cut). But I was so impressed. The salon is calm and tranquil and Aimee really took the time to listen to what I wanted out of my cut and color. I was so pleased with the result. I will continue to go to Aimee for life. But make sure to leave about three hours for the process - it is well worth it!
