I saw Alex several times and then decided to try a different salon (even though I was happy with his work; I just have a hard time sticking to one thing). Let's just say, my adventures out there were far from good, some even disastrous. But now, in an awkward situation, with messed up hair, I couldn't possibly go back to the man I had cheated on!! Well, here I am 7 months later, back at Alexander G. and so grateful that Alex has welcomed me back with open arms. I'm reminded again why I came to this salon in the first place. Kind, understanding and unparalleled results. In my experience, I had met quite a few stylists that I know would surely give me the cold shoulder if they knew I had tried another salon. It's nice to know, Alexander G. is above and beyond that.

I recently went to Alexander G. on a recommendation from a friend. I saw Jennifer, senior stylist, for highlights and Alexander for the haircut. They were kind, attentive and the work was great--my hair looks fabulous. The synchronicity and atmosphere was an impressive experience. I completely recommend this salon to anyone.

Went back for my second visit with Jennifer. More fantatic than my first. We are still undoing the bad color done by the earlier salon, but it isso close to perfect, I am amzed. I can't wait for my next appt, when we can really go to town. My hair is an am,azing color, she really worked with my skin and eye color. It is dramatic and arresting. Jennifer can cut too. for the first time in about a hundred years, I didn't have to wait a week for it to look good and I didn't have to run home and re style my hair, before going out in public. This may be my best experience in close to 25 years of high end salons in Los Angles, NYC and SF. I have never written a review for a business before this experience , but just had to for Jennifer and Alex G salon.

A positive experience, overall. I called for an appointment and was given one with Jennifer for the following day...well, then they called back and apparently Jennifer couldn't (didn't want to?) do it, so they placed me with Becca...on the same day I called! Pretty miraculous. The salon was very pleasant, clean and orderly. I was treated very cordially by the receptionist (who appears to also be a stylist, or at least an assistant). I was offered coffee or tea and settled for water, which was kept replenished throughout my stay. Becca listened carefully and then provided a very good color job (highlights and lowlights) and a very professional cut. My only objection may be my own fault. I was willing to pay what to me was a fairly exhorbitant price for what I hoped would be a new, more exciting look. I told Becca, "I want to put myself in your hands." My hair does now look very nice and healthy, and falls and moves better, although the style has no particular pizzazz, and the color, while very professional, is not particularly exciting...I sort of went from mousy blonde to nondescript brown. I wish I had known better what to ask for. I had hoped that in my "consultation" she might have shown some enthusiasm or insight other than a wish to eliminate the sharp contrast between the colors from my last color weave elsewhere. I am trying to talk myself into feeling better, but I am not excited when I see my new look in the mirror, and after paying for the services including the tip and purchasing the shampoo and conditioner, I was about $300 poorer...and Becca's not even one of the ones commanding the highest fees in this place.

Pros: Pleasant ambiance, highly competent stylists/colorists

Cons: Very pricey, no real enthusiasm for me as an individual in search of a "look"

After going to the no.2 pick on this list for a color, and having my wishes ignored, over ruled, my scalp burned (scabs), I walked out, went home and looked in the mirror. I HATED MY HAIR, it was everything I didn't want. The owner's words to me after it was done, were "Paris Hilton, look out" !!! Totally freaked out, I called Alex G, on Friday and told them that my hair was a disaster and could they help. They made an apt the next day, a Saturday. I saw Jen, who sat down and actually said, "the only thing that matters is what YOU want. I don't live with your face, you do. Tell me what you want, and I will do my best". She explained that she would only advise me not to do something ONLY if she thought it would be a complete disaster, but ultimately my hair was my choice. What a concept. I thought my scalp was pink because of the color, but she discovered how raw it was. She was very concerned that further color might hurt my scalp and so we proceeded extremely cautiously. She was very careful and gentle. My hair went from a pink- apricot to the platinum I wanted in the first place. She was kind, thoughtful and caring. Completely professional, never said a bad word about the previous stylist, what respect she showed. My hair looks utterly fantastic. I thanked her a dozen times and then called again on the way home to thank her again. I will very happily drive from Berkeley to the other side of the world, the Richmond, to see her regularly. And the salon was peaceful, and relaxed. It was busy but the atmosphere was calm. Fantastic salon. I give Alex G. the highest recommendaton.

I really enjoy coming to the this salon. I look forward to speaking with Alex about British music and just relaxing in his chair and knowing I'm in good hands. I also got great travel tips from him for when I went to London last year--a place I would definitely be living in if I could afford it. But for now, I can afford Alex's cuts and that's, in my opinion, the next best thing.

Very delighted with the outcome of my hair today at Alexander G.! What a nice atmosphere and kind people. Everyone has something bad to say about every hair salon in the city, but hair salons are extremely difficult environments to work in--all us needy women have such high expectations and demands! :) Sound familiar? Well, I have my own set of expectations and demands but this salon can satisfy me more than I hoped and I will definitely be coming back. Everyone was super nice and upbeat and I can tell they really love what they do. I think this place is great. I love you Alex G. for making my hair so X@#$ beautiful!!

Pros: customer service made me feel like a queen

Cons: that I can't take my stylist home w/me to do my hair every day!

I was a client of Jen's for approximately 9 months and was satisfied with the quality of the colors and cuts. I have had instances where I thougth she might be having a bad day, so I gave her the benefit of the doubt. However, at my last and final visit to her I felt I was completely snubbed. I was exactly 7 minutes late for my appointment and was told that I needed to reschedule. I am by no means making excuses for being late, but I felt I was a loyal client of hers and have referred many people to the salon. It seems that she would be somewhat considerate of this. However she was extremely snobbish and unjustifiably arrogant. I felt her behavior was bizarre and unwarranted. Nonetheless, I have called all of the people I have referred to her and told them of the incident. As a result they have sworn not to return. I hope in some way she can realize that her behavior is unecessary and furthermore I hope Alexander will realilze that her behavior is a poor reflection on his business and name.

my reply to coachgirl's post on 05/25/2006..i agree with her strongly. it is more than safe to say i care the most about QUALITY; alexander g. salon provided great service, however..coachgirl said alex only spent 2 minutes. when he cut my hair and did my highlights, the hightlights took over an hour (which is good), but with my haircut, after rinsing out my hair EXTREMELY ROUGHLY, he started cutting my hair...and wa-la! about TEN minutes later, at most fifteen...he finished cutting my hair! which i found ridiculous (that is the time normally spent for a guy's hair, not on one of woman's most important feature: her HAIR!!!). my old hairstylist from another salon always spent at LEAST a quality 40 minutes to an HOUR to make sure my hair is perfect in every angle, she would blowdry my hair in differnet directions to make sure it evan looks nice when the wind is blowing it + when its down. also making corrections until its absolutely flawless. alex just trimmed my hair, i didnt want to complain afterwards. i paid my 500 dollars for the highlights + cut and left. i felt like crying. all i know is im never going back. i don't know why theres so many perfect reviews for this company. sure the service is great but not the most important thing; the style and quality of the hair. i've been around many different S.F. salons + i know what i'm talking about, if you feel like taking a risk..try this salon. i'm disappointed - i expected a whole lot more from this beautiful British salon.

Pros: Beautiful luxurious atmosphere, extremely friendly receptionist, warm drinks

Cons: business-like boss, lack of time spent on haircut if you set two services in one day, lack of dimension + angle in haircut.

I went to the Alexander g. salon recently because two different friends recommended this place to me. Plus I read about this salon in a fashion mag. I saw Jen for highlights, haircut and a glaze. I am extremely happy with the outcome and will continue to go back. My fiancee said my hair looked beautiful and I hadn't told him I went to a salon that day. Loved the atmosphere here and I am definitely addicted to the glazes here now too. Gives that extra WOW that everyone seems to notice.
