surpasssed my expectations

by jo_march

I was expecting a lot considering these reviews, and Frankee surpassed my high hopes. I was feeling bored with my cut and bleached out with my blonde, so I told her that I wanted something cute and sassy for my bob. This was my first appointment but I liked her website and her vibe when I met her so I felt I could trust her with that direction. She nailed it. My color is awesome - still blonde but with depth due to her highlights (she used a ton of foils - totally detailed and caring). And the cut is shorter and a-line, much cuter and sassier than anything I've had for a while. The atmosphere was cool but comfortable. I was even offered a homemade choc chip cookie and something yummy to drink. Frankee was easy to talk with, even interesting and engaging. Overall a great experience. Most importantly, my hair looks awesome. I will be back!

  • Pros: fab cut & color, caring and detailed, reasonably priced, easy parking on divis

Finally Found My SF Stylist.

by jennilainsf

I am from LA and did not want to leave my favorite stylist. I kept driving and flying to avoid what was sure to be the worst cut and color of my life...for the 5th time. I have been here now for 3 years. Any rational person would think that is enough time to find someone decent. But I guess decent was the problem to begin with. I went to Frankee with over processed highlights, an outdated cut and a bad attitude. I left with seamless, beautiful highlights and a fun new cut. I will be visiting the space in between my next service to check out the latest art installation she was putting up that weekend. It was cool to see artists supporting other artist. This is a easy going place with a cool vibe without the "too cool hipster" feeling. It's great to get a good cut and color, even better to have an overall great experience. With all the decent places out there, I vote for the whole package.

  • Pros: Parked my SUV right in front! Cost comparison lower than most high end salons. One on one service.
  • Cons: Didn't have a ton of celb zines' more art or fashion; I need my gossip.

Best Color Ever with 20's Inspired Flapper Cut w/ Modern Twist

by theresacosmetics

Frankee is the best stylist and colorist EVER. Period. Her color skills are the best....my hair looks better than it ever has since I've been in her care for almost 6 months. My previous color (partial highlight and lowlight) was amazing and lasted 3 months (okay so I had roots but it started that way in places, and roots are in!). You could even still see red after 3 months! The color now is with bright red streaks and plummy streaks, with some of the gold before left in. I've been getting a million compliments on the cut and color...my colleage at Sephora who sits next to me always tells me how envious she is of my hair. As a makeup artist who works in the beauty industry, I rely on Frankie to keep my locks high-fashion and flattering, and that is why I'll never leave her. She is simply the best!

  • Pros: FRANKEEEE! Don Juan...magazine...snacks
  • Cons: NONE!!!

Total disappointment

by missixty

I will describe briefly my experience with Frankee Uno:

- ridiculously overpriced

- not really creative when it comes to cuts

- my colour faded away in ten days

- and I got the WORST hairstilying ever

She is nice and pleasant, makes you feel cosy in her saloon but she DOES NOT understand everybody?s hair. I would definitely not recommend her to my friends.

P.S. This is my first time massage and I felt like I have to say something about this experience...

Frankee is the best!

by nozzd

She is hip, she has great style - she understands what you need AND she delivers.

The best coloring I have had in my life. The subtle red/gold highlights on a base color so close to my natural hair. Now that 80% of my hair has gone gray it is so difficult to catch that natural tones, highs & lows - and she did it. I have gotten so many compliments on my hair color & the style. My 10 year old daughter loves her - she loves just hanging out in her salon. She is our family stylist, even my husband gets his hair cut by Frankee.

Long story short - She is the best...

  • Pros: Styling, Coloring, Atmosphere, Friendly staff
  • Cons: Parking could be difficult, but Geary, Divisadero & Turk/Balboa bus stops within few blocks.

Best Hairstyling Class!!!

by princessfrancine

Don't you hate it when you need to look ultra hot for an event, but don't know how to style your own hair the way your hairdresser does that gives you that "salon", or in some cases for a hot date, "Victoria Secret Page 5" look? So you have to go to your hairdresser and pay EIGHTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS for a blowdry just for that non-frizzy blown out look? Well, I hear you sista. That's why I attended Frankee's Hairstyling 101 class. I wanted to learn the trade so I can save EIGHTY FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS everytime I wanted to look like Giselle. I expected a light class in drying techniques to satisfy my ignorance in hair coiffing. Instead, Frankee educated me on the function and purpose of various products that can achieve that "salon" look. In addition, she introduced me to new equipment (like a flat iron and a curling stick), aside from the blowdryer, that can lend immediate results. For women like me who are too busy to spend hours staring at themselves in the mirror with a brush and a hairdryer (I'm cute but not cute enough to stare at myself for hours), this class is golden for professional women on the go. Her class was very impressive. She started with a syllabus of what each product can do and will do for your hair and how you could incorporate it in your regular regimen. I learned that sulfates are the main ingredient in most shampoos and are bad for your hair, so she carries products that are sulfate-free. Then we practiced using her equipment to achieve three very versatile looks: classic, glamour, and street. To reward us for being a good students in attending Hairstyling 101, we had wine and some nibbles at Frankee's bar, perched at the front of her salon. She had a glass of wine with us too! She's so cool...

I highly recommend Hairstyling 101 at Frankee Uno. At the very least, you will leave with a lot more education about styling your hair coupled with a great experience.

Frankee Uno RULES for cut and color---fashionistas alert do check her out!

by theresajunglecode

Frankee is AMAZING. I came to her when my hair stylist of 7 years left town. She gave me gorgeous blonde and rich cherry red panels which totally flatter my complexion (and which I can do a lot with when styling my hair various ways); the cut is sleek but can still be messed up, and will be easy for me to style. She's a great person, you can't beat Don Juan the friendly "boss" and the salon is comfortable and free of distraction. She definitely is on top of her game; she has vision and can perfectly execute it. After my great previous cut 6 weeks ago, I knew to expect something awesome, but she blew away my expectations.

Yep, I have found my match.

(my hair texture is fine but I have a lot of it; she knew exactly what to do with it from the getgo! I'm not one for telling a stylist exactly what to do, but I trust her completely with whatever she wants to do! She also worked with my existing color from a previous stylist and did not damage my hair)

  • Pros: snacks, nice conversation, being treated with respect, listened to, made to feel and look beautiful
  • Cons: none--she is on top of her game!

Fabulous Hair

by turbomama04

I love Frankee Uno Salon and Gallery. I live close to an hour away I choose to travel to Frankee for my cuts and color. I really like the fact that the space is ever changing. Every time I am there she has new artwork on display (various styles of art...right now the art is interpreted patterns...the "LA tagger look" that someone referred to was one particular artist. That is not how the artwork is every time. Look at her website). I also like the fact that Frankee works alone. It makes me feel special, or exclusive. All of her attention is devoted to me and only me while I am in her chair. I leave feeling, and more importantly, looking fabulous!

Update: Frankee added extensions to my hair...they are amazing! They look so natural and match my hair color exactly. I love my new hair!

  • Pros: She has snacks nd refreshments too. So you won't starve while hair is processing! She takes late evening appointments.

Check out the art work

by joecowan

I always looked for forward to haircut day because that?s when I visited Frankee Uno Salon and Gallery. However, my fabulous stylist, Joanne, has moved on and I must move with her for she is the best ever.

Frankee Uno is more that a salon. It is an art gallery featuring potentially emerging artists specializing in that bold, edgy, not-at-all-suble, LA tagger look. The exhibits I have seen feature photography and mixed media pieces one would expect to find in a Mission District loft. If you are attracted to these types of images, this is a good place to check out.

The Best!

by chercultrona

Frankee Uno is a terrific stylist and colorist. Having grown up around a family of stylists I am very selective about who I choose as my hair stylist. She is by far the best I have encountered. Her cuts and color are accurate and current. My hair looks better than ever. She is focused and a true artist. In addition you will NOT find her salon to be noisy and with an annoying number of operators. She keeps her operation small and intimate with prices that are more than reasonable. This salon and Frankee are a true gem!

  • Pros: A dedicated professional who strives to make all her clients happy!
