Service would help, and a host not 12
by shawn1984
December 04, 2008
No service, water, b&b plates, knife for butter, full drinks, or napkins.
It all helps if expecting a tip. Got fifty cents..... that is what is deserved. I got spoiled micros and couldnt get anyones attention for help. The mixed greens that are a bedding for the calamari was spoiled and the host had the nerve to argue with me upon sending the food back, WORD FOR THE WISE--" the guest is always right"!!!! Having to go to the the bar for every round of drinks eventually p issed me off. I get my own drink, send the server home. save some overhead.
Its a shame that the new ownership doesnt have the opperations in consistancy. It helps to get return buisiness. I, as well as my coworkers, friends, and family will never contribute to the failure of a once very welcome and comfortable eat. Upon cashing out the server had the audacity to give us two singles and a ten dollar bill, asuming after we spent $150.00 and wasted our time that she would get a generous tip..........Wrong..
- Pros: NONE
- Cons: everything!

Good spot for lunch near city hall and the Library. Good burgers. A couple of good salad choices, quiet comfortable dining room, full bar. We've eaten lunch there a couple times and can get in without waiting.

I've eaten at Soluna several times in the past three months for lunch. Everytime I've had great service and the food has been great. I must admit that I am addicted to the mac & cheese. Last time I was there the recipe had changed but it was still good. I think the atmosphere is really cool too. Whenever anyone is remotely close to the Civic Center area, I recommend Soluna and I always get rave reviews.
- Pros: awesome mac & cheese, good service, cool atmosphere

This is the first time we eat at this restaurant. We bought a gift certificate online but the server said the certificate is no longer available. Unfortunally we cannot use the gift certificate for the food, but we still want to try the taste of the food, so we order a 3-course dinner and a filet mIgnon. The appretizer is fine, but the filet mIgnon is very small and a little bit salty and a little bit overcook. I think this entree is too expensive $28 for the overcooked salty filet mignon with salty mashed potato and spinach. The desert is fine but a little bit too sweet to me. I don't think I will go back to this restaurant for this kind of food.
- Pros: parking at night
- Cons: food

Soluna's is a regular favorite of ours. We get treated with 5 star service everytime we walk through the door. The owner Rick is very curtious and greets all of his guests with a smile. If he is unavailable the bartender Jack will promptly ask if you would like a table or just a drink. The food always comes seasoned well and piping hot. They don't rush you between courses and make sure your glass is always full. The wait staff is very attentive and knowledgable of the menu. The owner however is moving on in the end of January so we arent sure what is to become of one of our favorites.
- Pros: Ambience, service, drinks
- Cons: not open on sundays
Cool, funky decor

Have visited a few times now (all dinners) and liked the food. We've always had courteous waiters - in fact, the last one we had was really funny and friendly, but very professional and attentive. When the kitchen brought out the wrong salad, he promptly got us the right one, and comped it.
Most recent meal was a late night light-bites: Pear/gorgonzola salad - excellent. Lobster bisque - excellent. Crab cakes - somewhat dry. Mussels - very good. Parmesan, White Truffle Garlic Fries - good, but nothing special, and couldn't taste any truffle or garlic.
The decor is really interesting and dramatic - lots of reds, neat-looking seating, beautiful lighting. Original artwork on walls. We've come before Opera performances, late night, or after visiting the Asian Art Museum across the street.
Everything went wrong

Everything that could've gone wrong went wrong. We were seated promptly but because we were seated in corner table, our waiter didn't notice us, waited over 15 minutes before we got served. I had scallops appetizer and they were burnt like as if they were just reheated; burnt on the outside and dry on the inside. I had the pork loin with a side of creamy potatoes. Pork loin was dry and luke-warm and the potatoes were still cold in the center. I informed our waiter and he just brought me another plate of the potatoes and reassured me this time he asked them to 'heat' it up warm but it was still cold again. My husband ordered the steak and it seemed odd when the waiter asked 'how warm do you want it' as we took it he meant 'how well you want it cooked' and my husband said 'medium'. His steak turned out to be slices of beef which was also luke-warm. I tried to make reservations for the night before but they were closed for a private party and with the food that night, it just led me to believe that we probably were served leftovers.
- Cons: bad food, unattentive service, expensive
Day or night, solid food and creative cocktails draw a crowd to this Civic Center cafe and lounge.

In Short
The long room, with dark-wood tables and plush red banquettes, sports a split personality. Politicos from the nearby government buildings pass through for a quick lunch or a round of happy-hour libations, but come nightfall, the friendly staff slings cocktails and snacks to scenesters who dance to the grooves of local DJs.

We were looking for a place close to the theatre prior to a performance and found this place on line. While the portions weren?t large, the taste and presentation was outstanding. The prix fix dinners are very reasonable price for a multiple course meal. The service was superb and the atmosphere causal but elegant?very romantic.
- Pros: ambience, food taste and presentation
- Cons: portions are a bit small
Excellent romantic lunch

We had a birthday lunch at Soluna this week and thoroughly enjoyed it. The banquette seating was comfortable and the decor was generally very attractive. The soups (tomato and vegetable) were hot and flavorful and a nice size for a lunch appetizer. The crab cakes with corn salad were delicious and the cornbread-encrusted catfish likewise. The green salad with the catfish had a little too much dressing but this was a minor complaint. We had a very nice Pinot Grigio and the $70 total (including wine and tip) seemed very appropriate. Highly recommended.
- Pros: Decor, food, seating
- Cons: Looks bad from outside!
