Great food BUT not so great service

by jamihendren at Citysearch

The food was very good. I had the Chop Salad and Filet, but everyone in my party enjoyed what they ordered. We were not very pleased with the service though. At first they were very responsive but after we received our food we literally had to waive our hands in the air and grab just anyone walking by to get the butter and sour cream for our plain potatoe(they walk around with a tray of butter sour cream and chives instead of putting it on your plate automatically), refill of our drinks and even had to wait forever just to get our ticket. We had a group of 10 but the entire restaurant only seats approximately 75.

The desserts are large enough to share among 2-4 people. I highly recommend the brownie sundae.

Nice After Work Place

by mark at Citysearch

I've been here a few times and it's high on my charts for ambiance and style. This is a nice restaurant and a good place to meet friends for a cocktail. Last night I met a friend for cocktails and an appetizer (calamari- very tasty) and was highly satisfied with the evening. It's a good place for locals and business travelers and out of town guests. Good crowd and we were fortunate to find seats

Save your money

by 066007 at Citysearch

Only had the one meal here, but what a waste of money. I had the Pork Chops, nothing special about it, and i have had much better else where, for much less that the cost in this place.

A waste of money, food nothing special, go somewhere else.

Stomache after eating the Steak

by mandy620 at Citysearch

Every night on my way to the Mongomery Bart, I see many well dressed people having steak at Bob's. So I invited my best friend, who also owns a medium size restaurant in SF like me, to give it a try. First of all, the bell pepper and pickel in a big jar looks fancy, yet tastes just like pickels from Costco. We ordered two specialty steak recommended by the waiter. Two different steaks (one is called Kansas) were seasoned in a similar way. They tasted a little salty and was actually pretty good even though the flavor had covered the taste of the beef itself. Dining room was well decorated and gave us a very comfortable feel. However, after eating the steak, I felt very uncomtable as soon as I get on to the Bart, and I had to get off the Bart at Mac Arthur to use restroom, and waited for another Bart to Orinda. The steak was making me sick until the next morning. Even more worse, my best friend just called me and said he was feeling sick since we left Bob's. We were very disappointed and would never go again.

A Total Winner

by blkestin at Citysearch

We just relocated to SF from New York City and were worried about finding a steakhouse that would meet our high standards (when I say "our" I mean my fiance's...he is quite the steak lover). Bob's was absolutely fantastic - we will definitely revist again and again. We both had the filet mignon medium rare. It was cooked perfectly, with a nice salty crust on the outside and tender and red on the inside. Yum yum. The mashed potatoes were also very tasty and we were amazed that they were included with our entree - you don't often find that in NYC! The glazed carrot, for which I had very low expectations, was so delicious that I will seek out a similar recipe online and try to replicate it at home. The service was very good - we told our waitress that we were going to share a salad to start and they brought it our on two plates, which I always appreciate. She was attentive throughout the meal without being overbearing and was always there just when my wineglass needed a refill. The only thing I will complain about is the creamed spinach, which was probably among the worst I have had. The parmesan crust is a nice touch, but the spinach beneath it left much to be desired. Bottom line - this is a great restaurant. You should definitely try it out next time you're in the mood for steak and potatoes.

Tender choice meats served flawlessly in a polished, masculine den at the Omni Hotel.

by Gina Goff at Citysearch

The Scene
Power-brokering businessmen and tourists with money to burn watch the cable car roll by the large windows in this sophisticated steakhouse's main dining room. Vintage black and white prints of San Francisco adorn mahogany walls with dark green, red and brown accents. Diners seeking quiet conversation opt for a private booth in one of the two alcoves to the left of the entrance.

The Food
Skillful servers promptly deliver an extensive, cabernet-heavy wine list and a warm sourdough loaf. An impeccably fresh crab cake starter, drizzled with a sweet mustard sauce, is a menu star. Meat lovers agonize over entree choices, like prime aged filet mignon and a rack of lamb with flamed exterior and a rosy, succulent center; each dish is garnished with a whole glazed carrot. Red meats are best accompanied by creamy smashed potatoes with chives; assorted toppings are offered tableside. Perfectly torched creme brulee is the ultimate finale.

Great Place!

by zizzieb at Citysearch

Not only is the food great, but if you want to grab a drink in the bar, it is a great place to people watch and see the Trolley cars go up and down California Street. This place is not your average hotel bar, it is better. Great service and fun ambiance!

Bob's hits the spot

by winediva at Citysearch

Bob's is one of my favorite steak houses in the city. The reasons are not completly rational (other than the steak). This is not a place where one would, or should, expect any type of California twist to a dish. The steak comes with a carrot which borders on Freudian and the sides are traditionally good (no huge surprises to the positive or negative). The wine list is well chosen and the martinis are stiff. The surroundings and style are east coast.

The reason I most like Bob's is that I always feel comfortable, the place is friendly, and it pulls no punches.

  • Pros: steak, service, relaxed
  • Cons: in a hotel

Great Steak

by charlielewis at Citysearch

That's the bottom line. I was in town for a wedding where Friday night and Saturday menus were pure Vegan. Needless to say, by Sunday's dinner I was drooling over the thought of red meat. Had the Ribeye, awesome and juicy. Girlfriend had the Filet, tender and perfect temperature.

Best Steak in Town

by audfor94133 at Citysearch

I'm a frequenter of many a steak house in the city, and Bob's is by far the best at their namesake. Ambiance is not the greatest, but the food is top notch. Service in the main dining area is great, but if your willing to eat in the bar you'll find it a few notches up.

  • Pros: excellent food, professional servers, less crowded weekends
  • Cons: , hotel ambiance
