Great place
by erizabuffer
Have been going to Lisa for many years for bikini waxing and have had facials and my eyebrows done here too. (I love the look of nicely arched waxed brows, but was endowed with only straight little ones, which don't need much taming.) Lisa has a great "bedside" manor - she manages to be efficient and relaxed at the same time, which can be a big problem in this type of business... (too often its either/or). I'm in and out, usually not bumping into another client (she seems to space them well), having had a nice warm chat and feeling a lot more fierce ...aka smooth.
- Pros: Ambience, professional, clean, relaxing, private
- Cons: no stairs, only elevator in building... not a big deal
Oil and Water

I know how she gets so many good reviews. She campaigns hard for it from anyone who walks in. Oil and Water is average. There are better places in San Francisco.
How does she have great reviews?

I got a brazilian wax and requested just a little shape of a pie to fit in a g-string. I received an uneven landing strip. I wasn't happy with the shape and just wanted to leave and fix it later . When I properly investigated my wax, I discovered both my inner labia looked like it hadn't been waxed. That's one of the main differences between a bikini and a brazilian. Why did I go through the pain with no results?! There were so many hairs left, I needed to be spot waxed today and have that uneven strip removed.I requested and paid for a brazilian not an extended bikini. I left her a message. She returned my call, left a message, seemed accommodating and then was rude. I have no idea how she has good reviews or business. I'm an esthetics student, graduating tomorrow, and will never treat my future clients in that manner or leave my client with a poor wax job.
- Pros: clean
- Cons: Went for a wax and received a half-a** wax.
Excellent Facial and Brow
by samudhra
Lisa Tabbush is one of the best facialists I have ever worked with. She pays attention to detail, remembers your skin type and brow preferences, and does a great job all around. As a woman of color I often grapple with skin issues particular to my skin type and pigmentation and Lisa is very knowledgeable about how to improve different types of skin. She also does great brow design and works with your preferences. I definitely recommend Oil&Water.
Lisa Tabbush is the best around.

I started going to Oil and Water because I work across the hall, but after I went-- I recommended it to friends who live all over the Bay Area. I'm a woman of color, and it's often hard to find skin care professionals who pay close attention to my waxing needs. I'd broken out after every brow shaping until I started going to Lisa, who uses a sensitive wax that hurts less and doesn't make my skin rash at all. She also suggested an amazing clay mask that has helped to clear up some of my problem acne zones. I travel a lot for work, so I've tried waxing all over the country: NY, LA and DC-- Lisa is the only esthetician I trust with my brows-- and I only had to travel to the girl next door. Wherever you live, though, she's worth the journey.
- Pros: professional, relaxing, comforting-- and a great conversationalist.
- Cons: no walk-ins.
Excellence pure and simple

I have been going to Lisa at Oil and Water for over three years. She?s good, I mean really good. I?ve looked all over to find someone who is able to maintain my eyebrows. I don?t want to look surprised. Lisa is incredible. I always look polished and neat when she?s done. Her prices are reasonable, her studio is squeaky clean and smells great, she is always on time, and she is really, really nice. I can?t say enough.
I?ve also had facials at Oil and Water; they are relaxing and effective, my skin glows when I leave. I always book one right before I have to see my mother-in-law, it takes the edge off.
I also don?t understand the reviewer who says that she wasn?t used to providing hair removal service to women of color. I?m black. I?ve seen women of many colors booking return appointments when I was there.
- Pros: Parking, Clean, Professional, Talented
- Cons: Sometimes you need to book in advance...the good ones are busy.
Go to Oil and Water
by KC70
I have been going to Lisa at Oil and Water for two and a half years. The first time I saw her was soon after someone had taken scissors to my eyebrows. This is a big no-no for women with brows that have a propensity to curl like women of color. Lisa immediately recognized the error and told me to never let someone do that again, She spent the next few visits correcting the 'brow problem. Lisa does not use magazines and photos to design 'brows, She does much better: she looks at your face and gives you a design that works for your face AND is current. If after a session, I think my 'brows should be a little thinner her or there, I tell her and I lay back down. I have never walked out of Oil and Water less than satisfied. I have recommended Lisa to my friends of ALL colors and all that have gone have been happy, I use her for my 'brows, my bikini wax and my facials. I always look and feel great when I leave Oil and Water.
"Oil & Water" does not mix

I can't believe Ms. Lisa Tabbush received rave reviews regarding designing eyebrows. I vistied Oil and Water not long ago; after growing out my eyebrows for over 2 weeks, I thought I was going to receive a nice improved look -NOT- she acted like she did not have a clue on how to design eyebrows - we didn't go over any pictures to determine the look I wanted or anything. My friends laughed when I told them I went to an eyebrow designer. For a $30 eyebrow design, which I did not receive - I guess I was paying for the ambience of the spa - I'll give her that - It was clean and mellow.
Maybe she wasn't used to providing eyebrow service to a woman of color - go figure! I'll just stick with the little Asian shops that charge $12 - they advertise waxing only, but they design as well!
- Pros: Ambience, Parking
- Cons: Skill
Esthetician Extraordinaire!!
by sargie
I have been seeing Lisa for years for my beauty treatments. I love the way I feel upon walking into her tranquil
space. From the wonderful aromas that fill the air to the soft music playing in the background. That's not all.
I love her facial bed. It is warm and cozy and makes the stresses of life leave my mind. Lisa gives great facials. She has a gentle touch and the ability to make my skin glow for days following the treatment. In addition,
her lash tinting technique is nearly painless and I completely trust her with my eyebrows. I feel and look ten years younger because of Lisa. No botox for me.
- Pros: ambience, great treatments, results oriented, personality
- Cons: None
Great brows, great service
by miab2012
I read about Lisa here on Citysearch, went for a brow appointment and I'm so glad I did! Lisa is great and she does a fabulous job with my eyebrows. She shapes them exactly how I ask her to, she is very gentile with my sensitive skin, and it is so very relaxing in her salon.
I've been to quite a few esthetician for brow shaping who were rated very highly here on Citysearch. Out of all of them, I have to say that Lisa is the best, hands down. You'll get great brows and great service. I highly recommend her!
- Pros: Everything
- Cons: None
