Skanks

by TechProfessional

It is everything stated in the reviews and worse. They will say they need to meet you , before they discuss any openings, warning number one. You will go there, and they will do the bait and switch, the posted jobs do not exist, but they will give you a spiel about a job they have. Even if it does not match what you applied for or are looking for.

They will also pump you for references, don't give it to them. Reputable companies only ask for references for candidates that have got reached the offer stage.

If they hear you are interviewing, they will also try to pump you for contacts at the company you interviewed at( man how stupid do they think some of us are!!)

I have found it best to give them the list of names of nasty people you have worked on a project with. The condescending project mgr., uncooperative dept head, etc. They deserve each other.

  • Pros: The office had heat, and they did not smell.
  • Cons: Waste valuable interview time. Time best spent actually looking for a job.

A Detriment to Getting Hired

by sampleboy

I was approached by the Boylston Group in the DC metro area after responding to a job posting through DICE. I decided to go into their office and within the span of an hour, I met with 5 of their employees who each did a separate interview with me. They each represented different clients. The next day they set me up to interview with one of their clients. The interview went great and the client wanted to hire me. Unfortunately, I found out the Boylston Group did not already have a prearranged contract with this client. In the end, the client felt that the Boylston Group's fees were too high and so they could not hire me. The whole process was a waste of my time and left a negative impression on me. The Boylston Group basically got in the way of me getting hired because they did not have an agreement or contract in place with their clients before setting up interviews with potential employees. You would think fees and such would have been discussed upfront before setting up interviews and wasting people's time. Thanks for nothing Boylston Group!

Don't ever use them. EVER!

by truthiness24x7

As a Director for a local technology firm, this company has one of the most dubious set of business practices I have ever experienced. They make calls using tactics worthy of national do not call registry fame. Repeated cold calling, spamming emails, randmon calls using the main office switchboard number, its amazing the tricks they use. AFter one particular nasty and rude exchange with a imcompetant, rude and non stop sales pitch call, I escalated my concerns to a manager and met with the same sales pitch. At least there is consistancy. To this day, I still get calls. Cold calls. Not we see you have a vacancy, we have a candidate- Just flat out hey we have some resumes... No way will I ever use this company. Ever. If a candidate originates from this agency, I apologize- I won't even speak to them.

Unfortunately, they are probably good for the staff looking for employment. Not for a hiring manager.

  • Pros: None
  • Cons: It's like 13 year old kids with a redial button

Thank you

by mariakulik

I read the negative reviews on this site and was quite surprised and saddened. I do not work for Boylston, neither have I been paid by them to write this review. I guess I have no way of making this any more convincing, so I will just leave it at that.

I started looking for a job 3 weeks ago. I have never had experience with recruiters before. They contacted me the same day I exposed my resume online and I went out to meet them. They are energetic, lively, intelligent people. They do their research and know really well what they are doing. Whenever I got a call from them with a potential position, they had all the information about the company, its modus operandi, past and current situation, budgeting, company culture, product details and more. The job description followed immediately by email and was concise and to the point. They scheduled me several interviews in the first couple of weeks and fairly soon I had an offer in my hands. I am now happily employed.

What I appreciated the most about them, is that they are human. Yes, they try to sell it to you, as well as they try to see you. They are salespeople, for that is what their job entails. But they are sharp and understanding, and I found that being completely honest with them was rewarding. They helped me edit my resume, reformulate me objective, proof-read my thank-you-letters and gave tips prior to interviews on what to emphasize and expose.

They work great as a team, and everything they say is clear and meaningful. It was a true pleasure working with them both professionally and personally.

  • Pros: Professional, intelligent, human
  • Cons: They want you to commit, but that is what recruiters do

Best recruiter firm out there

by kswoll

This is a great recruiting agency. The people there are extremely friendly and more importantly, they found me lead after lead after lead. Compared to how many opportunities I was getting with just posting my resume on Dice, I got about ten times that amount working with Boylston. They prepare you well for your interviews, and since many of the interviews take place on their premises (a stone's throw from BART's Montgomery station), it makes attending those interviews very convenient. I highly recommend anybody who's searching for a tech job to try out this agency. There's absolutely no reason not try them out and see all the opportunities that will come your way.

  • Pros: Free, energetic, and they deliver
  • Cons: None

Fast. Energetic. Professional.

by tinytim123

I was both a client and recently a candidate of this agency and I have nothing but positive things to say about them. They always showed me what was on the market and were always realistic. They had a very solid understanding of the job market and a manager needed to do to secure a good hire. As a candidate I cannot say enough good things. They were fast, efficient, honest, and the clients they sent me to were very high level. They placed me quickly and with a significant raise. All of the other poor reviews seem to be from chop-shop start up company managers that can't even afford to pay a fee and look to hire mostly entry level anways. When it comes to my job search, I cannot think of a characteristic I would want more in a recruiter than for them to aggresively search for me and the energy these guys bring to the table everyday.

  • Pros: Fast, efficient, professional.

get you that new job NOW!

by dhaba

I have had a very good experience working the Boylston group for getting a new job recently, and I?m surprised to read a few negative reviews posted here.

<br>

To be fair on both side of the coin, the naysayer point is well taken. If you are *not* serious about getting new job now, or within a few weeks, then Boylston group is not for you. They are aggressive; they are not your grandmother place where you can dilly-dally with warm cookies and milk.

<br>

The Boylston group is a good match for me because I?m aggressive. I want a new job, I am good at what I do, I know what I want, and I want it now! They close the deal for me within a week. Peter, Tiffany and Heather are professional, well spoken, and attentive to details. They will be the same agents I want to represent me if or when I am looking for a new job again.

<br>

Bottom line guys and gals, it is your career, your job, and how bad you wanted it is up to you. If you?re willing to put in the hard work, doing the online job search, sending/emailing out resume, it may not be enough.

<br>

Having the Boylston group, ?your people?, to open the doors, coach you on your interviewing skills, and negotiate your salary and perks, might be exactly what you need to get you that new job NOW!

<br>

Best regards,<br>

2 Days, I was in

by gkang2000

Erich and the rest of Boylston are absolutely on top of their game. I had recieved a call from Erich and we had a interview at Boylston the next day. After reviewing my experience and quals he had a in-house interview with a company the next day. I went to the interview and did very well through this comapnies interview process and felt really good about it. The company contacted me that same day and wanted me to come back in the next day. Went back and the offer letter was ready for me. Signed it and started the next day. The whole process took 2 days and i was hired on full-time. Now heres the thing. I see alot of reviews in here both that are excellent and some that are horrible. I am not the sharpest tool in the shed however, what I list on my resume are relevant skills and experience so come time the in-house interview I can answer the questions that the IT manager and leads are asking. Erich and the Boylston are very tech saavy so if you have a resume listing all these skill sets, Erich and the rest of Boyslston will tag a company that fits you based on what you have listed on your resume. Now if you have listed all these skills and really dont know it and you do horrible on your in-house interview that is not the Boylston Groups fault. They actually have done their part in tagging a job that matches your resumes criteria but it is up to you not to bs and actually know the content of whatever you have put in your resume because the interview will test you if you really know it or not. I just wanted to tell Boylston how great they are and not to mind these negative postings because the scenario I described above is the scenario these people are putting themselves in and then blaming Boylsoton.

  • Pros: Fast, effeicient, tech saavy so they find a fit for what expreiences you have and what you know
  • Cons: none

Best IT Recruitment experience ever and by far!

by genadinik

During a time when I had been having some difficulty finding work, the team at Boylston

tried harder and harder for me. They went the extra mile in every possible way.

They were patient in sitting down with me and working with me on my resume. They were also

patient enough to wait for me to realize on my own that perhaps my expectations were too

lofty and I was trying to interview for jobs that I am too junior.

They are also very efficient, often calling to tell me about a new company to

interview with, as I had been getting out of my previous interview. They pretty

much kept me busy with interviews to the point where I no longer needed to work with other agencies - just kept too busy with Boylston getting me the interviews every day of the week!

Over time, I developed a great relationship with Boylston to the point that when I moved

from San Francisco to New York, Boylston SF recommended me to Boylston NY (Remington) and I have had up to 2 interviews per day so far - every day!!

  • Pros: Friendly, Supportive, Efficient - they are really good at what they do!

Long Time Client

by sander77

I can't really speak to other people's experiences, but I've been using Boylston for nearly four years and have always had great working relationships with the recruiters. One things I've learned is that it's really a partnership, and you need to come in knowing what you want so that the recruiting process becomes a dialog between you and your recruiter. I'm guessing that some people who have had overly negative experiences may come to the table without much hiring/recruiting experience and may feel like Boylston isn't living up to their expectations, but it may be the case that the recruiters are just doing what they do best since they have no other direction from the client. Instead, I'd suggest that new clients come in with a strong idea of what they're looking for and make that very clear up front. Again, once it becomes a dialog it all works very well. Also, working with the same recruiter for a long time has its benefits. These days, every time I have a new job opening, all it takes is a short call to explain what I want (very very clearly) and we're off to the races.
