If you are interested in going to school just to collect the hours needed to pass stateboard, and don't care about receiving a proper education, than this may be the school for you. But before shelling out that $8,0000-$16,000, i'd strongly advise doing a little research. Don't let that hefty fee trick you into thinking that you'll get a better education, because it is the exact opposite. There is absolutely no structure at this school. Students are free to come and go as they please making it nearly impossible for instructors to teach. So, they didn't. In fact, during the eight month's that i attended the school in 2006, not one teacher stayed and replacing an esthetician teacher took nearly two months. During that two months students sat in the break room complaining about the system, yet collecting hours towards graduation. This school has had a bad reputation for years. In 2000 they made the front page of SF Weekly which can still be found on-line under "School of Hard Knocks". If i would have read this article beforehand, i would have NEVER attended this school because they have not changed!

I am an esth. student here as of 12/05. It's a family owned/oper. business, and it does show. There's little order to the admin. but I've learned, beauty schools in gen'l (aside from comm. colleges), lack routine and order. The staff has had heavy turnover & abt a year ago the esth. students had no night teacher for many months! Students were self-taught and unsupervised! I started when they obtained some perm. staff & have no big complaints re the new teachers. Daytime instructor is more questionable. You pay higher tuition for flexibility to finish your education. To warn other students, you should research potential schools well, ask the right questions, audit a class, & ask current students for their opinion. Zenzi's does use prof. skincare products, but are always out of product and re-ordering takes forever. All this for approx $7k+ in tuition over a span of 7 mos
Pros: Flexibile schedule, uses prof. products
Cons: lacks order, poorly run

I went to the beauty school aware of what I was getting. The students are learning, the price is right, I was willing to take a chance. I got a student that made me feel secure and really seemed to know what she was doing, she was doing a great job! She was finishing up her haircut and what seemed to be one of the teachers or the owner (older lady) came up to her and said that the school was closed and she had to stop cutting my hair and leave. So she stopped cutting my hair! The student was really upset, the school it seemed did not care at all about the situation and I walked out very concerned (and lopsided). I will never go back, not because the students aren't good, but obviously the staff/owners don't care about you or what you get.
Pros: good students
Cons: awful staff/owners
