A coworker recommended Dr. Hoh to me, as he'd gone to him for more than 10 years. He was right - Dr. Hoh is terrific! He is smart, thoughtful, and caring, as well as mindful of people's budgets. He fitted me with the best contacts I've ever tried in probably 15 years of formerly disappointing prescriptions. Then, when he offered to order them for me, I asked for the price, thinking, of course, that it would be much higher than I could get on those internet sources. (That had always been my prior experience - the optometrists' offices always charged at least 30% higher.) Surpisingly, the pricing was not only extremely competitive, he got them for me in a couple days at no extra charge so I could have them for a trip to Europe. AND he found a coupon that would give me roughly $40 off! Last night, I had trouble getting one of my contacts out, and was pretty sure it was still in there this morning as it was irritated and uncomfortable. I called today, a Friday, and Dr. Hoh worked me into his busy schedule so I wouldn't have to go through the weekend. He was so kind. I am recommending him to all my friends and coworkers, and to this service as well!

I was traveling on business and staying at the Marriott in downtown Oakland. During this trip I broke my glasses but was lucky there was an optomotrist just a few blocks from my hotel. Dr. Hoh stayed open late for me to repair my glasses as I told him I needed them the next day for an important meeting. He provided me with a thorough examination, updated my perscription and repaired my glasses. I was so impressed with his service that I plan to use him on a regular basis even though I live in Orange County - 400 miles away. Fortunately my work brings me to Oakland regularly so I can use him as my regular optomotrist.

Pros: Convenient to Downtown Oakland, Professional Office

Dr. Hoh provides the excellence one would expect from a Cal grad.

Dr. Hoh helped me with a custom pair of flip-up glasses. I avoided the cost and hassle of multiple pairs of glasses, and the limitations of bi/tri-focals (with or without the line, I didn't want to hold my head at strange angles in order to see). My one pair is good for reading, computer, driving/distance, bright outdoors, and indoors. You won't get this kind of service from a chain store. Parking in the area is scarce, but he validates for the underground parking garage across the street. Though his "storefront" is on the 2nd floor, it is easily accessible by elevator.

Pros: open Sat, near public transit, multi-lingual staff

Cons: not on street level, closed nites/Sun

Dr. Hoh gave me a thorough eye exam including testing for glaucoma, cataracts, and perpherial vision. He was very patient. He has hundred of frames to choose from. His office is about two blocks from the 12th Street City Center BART station, so I do not have to drive and look for a parking place.

Pros: stylish frames, modern equipment, close to BART

Cons: on second floor

I've always wondered what 20/20 meant and the purpose of all those lights and that air pop test. Dr. Hoh automatically explained them to me in easily understood terms.

Pros: Inexpensive, Quick turnaround, Prompt

Cons: Crowded, Parking Garage
