As before mentioned, the academy program at this salon is great. A friend of mine recomended i try it out, so i scheduled an appointment on a sunday (what salons do you know that are open sunday?). The girl that cut my hair rules!! Super friendly, and really listened to what i had to say. I have some crazy cowlicks, and she knew just what to do with them. She was stoked to inform me of their new product line, and sent me home with some of the conditioning balm. I usually just buy or what ever at the grocery store, but lets just say this stuff is so good that between my mom, sisters and i, we've almost used it all up. Kristen is totally knowledgeable and knows what looks good and will be honest about what doesnt. She gave me the best haircut i've had in a long time. Not only was she professional and precise, but it almost felt like i was hanging out talking to a friend rather than having my hair done. It was fun.
Pros: Nice people, Cool cut.
Cons: couldnt find parking, but found parking garage by movie theater/

I explained what I wanted and she was totally in tune and gave me a fabulous cut. I liked the cut so much I had her cut my kids hair. I will be referring people to Kristen. Great attitude just a joy to be around. She aims to please. That means a lot to me. Kristen loves her job and it shows. I have told some of my girlfriends to bring their children and friends to Kristen.
Pros: Ambience, Parking for certain and everyone welcomes you with open arms.

I absolutely loved this salon!! for a college student like myself it is so hard to find a high quality salon while still being within my budget! At Joe Hamer they have the academy program which basically means they have licensed stylist going through the training program personally taught by Joe, and if you get your hair done by them it is only $35! and you get the most amazing cut and wonderful, attentive service! I had Eliza from the academy, and she was great! i loved my cut, she listened to exactly what i wanted, and it is rare to find someone who listens and see your same vision! i totally recommend this salon for everyone, they have a stylist for every budget!
Pros: great atmosphere, warm and friendly employees

Recently I came in and had a haircut by Lena. I absolutely LOVE it. She did everthing that I wanted. She was sweet and answered all my hair questions. While she styled my hair she explained all the products that she was using. I am so happy that I went to Joe Hamer and had a haircut with Lena. I can't wait to go back!
Pros: Fun atmosphere

i've been seeing patrick at joe hamer salon every 6 weeks for the past 6 months and i've never been happier with my hair. in fact, i drive an hour and a half each way without complaint. Everyone in the salon-- owners, stylists, receptionists-- is welcoming and friendly and more importantly, they know what they're doing. patrick cuts and colors my hair for a reasonable price (okay, it's reasonable for a high-end salon) and he's restored my hair to a level of healthiness i haven't seen since childhood. the salon is gorgeous and clean w/a modern vibe, yet maintains a very neighborhood feel. i've never had trouble getting an appointment and there's a free parking garage within a couple blocks. truly an outstanding salon!
Pros: professionalism, skill, welcoming atmosphere
Cons: i wish it was closer to my house( but i'm not complaining!)

Thanks to Tom, I changed my extensions into the Joe Hamer extensions. No more glue for me and as promised the hair looks like new even after 2 months. My friends noticed the difference immediately. I really like the way he matched and placed the color and the length. You cannot tell that I am wearing extensions. This is what I was looking for
Pros: friendly and craftmanship
Cons: none

Hi-I saw Joe Hamer on tv-the switch-I have been a stylist, since 1968,in New York,Texas,Arizona,New Mexico & Colorado & also was a NM Cosmetology Instructor-I really enjoyed the show-loved Joe Hamer Salon-what a lovely person he appears to be! I read all the reviews here,& want to comment on the negative ones-especially,the 1 from the New Yorker-how sad,to make such a comment,on a fellow professional! I recall years ago,the competition between New Yorkers versus Californians-after living out west, coming from NY,I must say, this person's attitude,is what gives some New Yorker's a bad name-I happen to love the west,& the people-& am a firm believer in you receive what you put out-anywhere! Does not matter-London, Berlin-US or Europe-people,are not all that different-I personally, would LOVE to be younger,to be able to train with someone the caliber of Joe Hamer,& work in such a salon-I know from years in the business, you cannot please everyone-not everyone is going to like you-but,it's not mature,as a customer,to try to "trash" a business-& to trash a colleague,is not professional-we work hard-& as I always told my clients-if you have any problem-tell me-don't complain to others! I found the best solution to avoid this-is to consult first-in depth-if I saw a client-or myself-was unclear about a service,I'd ask until it WAS clear-never assume anything-customers share a responsibility also in their services,as do we professionals.Maybe in the future, more communication would help the New Yorker-rather than cop an attitude, some gentler more tactful dialogue would have prevented walking away so dissatisfied! Remember the song,"Try a Little Tenderness"? It really is effective!! Joe Hamer-keep up the great work-I think your wonderful!

In reading some of the reviews for the salon , I almost felt bad for the stylists.I do hair myself and know how hard it is to please everyone, all the time. Some of you women are brutal to us at times.I think this reflects in the few negatives I saw.We work extremely hard as stylists, standing on our feet for 12 hour stretches at a time, listening to you complaining about some of the most stupid things.I mean how many times do we need to hear about " that one piece".Sometimes you need to look deeper than just your hair!I realize none of us are perfect all of the time.Maybe we have an off day and our creativity isn't up to par.For gods sake give us a little slack once in awhile and work with us.Don't come at us in attack mode either,we just get hurt and defensive back(much as you probably would). We are all only there to please. That's why we got into this business to begin with.Lots of luck to Joe Hamer salon and most of your reviews make it sound as if you're are doing an awesome job.
Pros: some great reviews
Cons: some difficult clients

This place looks ridiculous. Dry cutting is not their invention and the manual sounds stupid. I trained at Vidal Sassoon in London Several times and in paris and Berlin. I guess the people on the west coast think they rock.Guess what?? you don't !!New York is where it is at. Paris or London leave California and get to Europe and get some real training
Pros: The place looked great
Cons: just because you're on Tv doesn't mean your talented

Having curly hair, I should never have relied on Cuts Etc to be a suitable place to get my hair cut. After getting my hair cut noticeably uneven by an obviously novice hair stylist I decided to try the Joe Hamer salon. I have had many friends come out of Joe Hamer looking amazing, and I wanted the same for myself. Every single time I have left the salon I have felt like a million bucks. Jessica has been cutting my hair for a while now and always goes above and beyond from what I have experienced at other salons, ranging from Cuts Etc, to other upscale salons. She is by far the best stylist to go to for curly hair in Petaluma, and probably Sonoma county. The ambiance of the salon is great and every single person from the receptionist, to the assistant, to the stylist are flawlessly attentive. Definitely go to Joe Hamer if you want star quality hair!
Pros: stylist quality
Cons: none
