I was in desperate need for a make-over and stumbled upon Grasshopper salon on CitySearch and decided to go check it out being as I was in the neighborhood. I needed a same day appointment and the receptionist scheduled my appointment with Sarah Scherer. Sarah was very personable and really listened to what I was looking for. My appointment began on time, she offered me a beverage (always appreciated) and she started working on me. She corrected my color (it's dark, but I retouched my roots myself, a No No I know!) so the roots didn't match the rest of the color (they were lighter by my own doing!) she covered the lighter roots and made the whole color match up. Then she took my medium long hair and cut it shorter (only after giving me a booklet with various styles to look at and choose from) once I decided, she said she agreed with my selection, she admitted that would have been her suggestion to me, had I not picked out that style myself (so we were on the same page!) The salon is simply decorated but very relaxing/layed back. The front desk person was attentive and personable as well. I would highly recommend Sarah to anyone that is looking for a good cut or color or both! The only bad thing is I was unaware of the salon's strict policy on not adding gratuities to the credit card(and I only had a few bucks in my wallet, certainly not enough to leave my talented stylist/colorist, so know before you go, visit an ATM machine before going or deal with a potentially embarassing situation like I did. I will be back to give her the gratuity in cash!
Pros: Personable, welcoming, relaxed atmosphere, skilled cutters and colorists!
Cons: Cannot leave tips on credit cards, that's it!

I decided to try Grasshopper and to see the owner as a I had been searching for a new hair stylist to replace my Ohio hair Goddess. A friend of mine had been seeing the Grasshopper owner for some time and my friends hair always looked nice. I had seen a few stylists in the city and instead of a pretty natural looking blond, I had a lot of red high and low lights. It was not good. My appointment started on time. The owner spent a large portion of the appointment on her cell phone making her dinner plans. In the end my hair was green (khaki versus hunter.) She was expecting me to come undone and for her to have to stay and correct the problem. When she saw the color I heard her call her friends and cancel dinner. I did not pitch a fit, but said fine and left. When I left, I had no idea how long the green color would haunt me. It was a very uniform green. I had a ridge of that color that could be seen for more than two years (until I had a chance to see said Ohio hair Goddess.) Beyond the immediate tears and such that come with a hair disaster, I had a lot of time to regret ever stepping foot in the salon. I would not recommend anyone that values their hair to visit this salon...unless green is the color you seek.
Pros: None
Cons: Green hair and years to remember the bad salon experience

Three weeks before my wedding, I went for a trim. I ended up with a dull brown 1980's mullet. I would never recommend this place to a friend.

I can't reccomend Nicole enough; she is absolutley fantastic. This place also has a fantastic vibe, really reasonable prices and is extremely convenient. However, it is impossible to actually schedule a cut. Many times during working hours no one picks up. When I leave a message, half the time no one calls back. Just recently I was given a time for a haircut over voice mail. Called back a couple hours later to say it worked and asked them to call me back to confirm. No one did and when I got there I guess they decided not to schedule it. I specifically took off a longer lunch for the cut.
Pros: Nice Prices, Good Stylists, Nice Ambience
Cons: Good Luck Scheduling a Cut; Make Sure it is Confirmed

I have been to several different stylists at Grasshopper and I have always been very happy with how my haircut and color turn out. I am not loyal to one stylist, but I am very loyal to Grasshopper Salon. I would not trust anywhere else with my luscious locks, and neither should you.
Pros: Is located in a SUPER cute park.

Paleeeeeeeeeeeeeeez! Atleast its not for long hair. After reading the reviews, I scheduled my haircut with Nicole. I told her to give me a different look and she simply trimmed my hair. You spend so much and thats what you get, NO CHANGE...If you want to waste your money, this is the place to be..

The biggest problem coming here is finding it and parking your car. Ater that, every thing will go very well! Thge stylists are all very knowledgable and professional.

I've moved out of SF and after getting my first bad haircut in months, I had to finally write my Grasshopper review because I realize even more what a special place this was. Kristen Luna was my stylist and she was AWESOME. My hair always looked fabulous and felt great for weeks after a cut. Everytime I got a cut and style and returned to work I received nothing but compliments - I ended up referring a number of colleagues to Kristen and had to start keeping her as a secret until I moved out of town (then I gave her name to everyone!). This place stays on top of the trends, constantly puts the stylists through training, and Kristen even led classes. I like a place that keeps striving to be better and do better - it makes $70 well worth the price. I had never had a good haircut until I found Kristen and am not sure if I ever will again. Save your pennies and go to this place, you will look good and feel good! I miss it already and will back if I am in town for vacation.
Pros: Great location, atmosphere, and stylists; taco shop next door
Cons: walk - don't drive, parking would be tough

I'm too hurried to write a long review, but suffice it to say that I really, really love my haircut from Kelly. It is easy to style (I don't really even have to style it!), and it looks great over 2 weeks after I got it cut. Also, Kelly is really sweet and fun to talk to. No more salon-hopping, I found my home!
Pros: talent
Cons: parking
