what service?

by manny771

My fiance' and I went to this place after reading about it in 7x7 so we were excited. When we got there, we were greeted as if we were bothering them and sat on the bar. 3 people walked past us and didnt even welcome us with anything once seated. The one manager who was eventually our server was training someone, which is fine, but have forgetten us completely. We wanted to leave but we already ordered. The dessert was great and the cappucino's were as well. Our check was dropped and all we were wanting was someone to acknowledge us with a genuine smile and simple basic service. The fact that the manager, with poor service was training someone scares me. But the thing is that a place like that will make their money and dont have to worry about service anymore. I hope Im wrong and just caught them on a bad time. But that doesnt mean we will be back. Too bad.

delightful little spot

by bigbuckaroo

My wife and I had a lovely, leisurely lunch one Saturday afternoon in December, in the midst of Christmas shopping. The service was good, the food divine, and the ambiance delightful. I'm sure it gets loud when it's completely full, but overall, it was a wonderful place to dine.

  • Pros: varied menu, great room, food delightful

Huge disappointment.

by parabolicdune

Went there for lunch with my girl and things started off well and ended very poorly. It was sad because I had heard so many great things about this place. I don't want to comment to elaborately on the matter, but the fact is; we left Le Petit Robert and will probably never return. My girl and I wait tables for a living, so we know how things can get in a restaurant. I would feel lousy if someone left my place the way we left Petit Robert. In my opinion the Kitchen staff needs to be babysitted during the transition from Lunch to Dinner. My girl's opinion is that; "They just didn't care about us." Try for yourselves, they've been in business a while and you can't do that without being successfull in some facet.

A popular presence in Polk Street's "Little Paris," known for its Cal-French bistro fare and festive atmosphere.

by Contributor

In Short
With elegant high ceilings, lipstick-red chairs and prime location in the heart of Polk Gulch, this popular Cal-French bistro can get quite crowded, especially on weekend evenings. The menu offers French classics like steak tartare and tuna nicoise salad, and contemporary California staples such as a classic hamburger with caramelized onions or grilled calamari.

Always excellent

by food911

This place has yet to fail... Le Petit Robert must be one of those sleeper places where everything is exceptional but not a lot of people know about it. I am a huge fan and frequent often. Recent visit proved to be just as enjoyable. Tried the crab gratin, the stuffed rabbit loin, the steak tartare is fabulous. The mac'n cheese is always on the menu and is a favorite of mine and my bf. The wine is a great bargain as well. I highly recommend this gem!

quaint french bistro

by jewelz129

Went there with my bf on a sunday evening. Service was great, waiter was very friendly and patient in explaining the dishes to us. Had a crab gratin appetizer which was really good and creamy... skip the french onion soup (at $7.5 a bowl). BF had the cassoulet (which our waiter described as "french chili"), was very hearty chock full of beans and duck. I had the stuffed pork tenderloin which was exceptionally juicy and cooked perfectly. Overall, food was delicious and wonderful and ambience was very nice and romantic. Dinner (no wine) came to about $60.

French Comfort Food to Warm the Soul

by cjglynn

With warm wood floors, soaring ceilings, and deep ochre walls accented with faux finish drapery, Le Petit Robert welcomes patrons with a relaxing, cozy atmosphere and solid, French-inspired bistro fare. Its candle-lit tables provide the perfect backdrop for its simple, but pure dishes. Romantic diners can begin with a mesclun salad, steak tartare, or lightly deep fried zucchini blossoms stuffed with chevre. Continuing the French comfort food theme, entrees include Fulton Valley chicken paillard, ratatouille of seasonal organic vegetables, and lapin a la moutarde. To finish a perfect meal, LPR offers a range of classic desserts from profiteroles to dark chocolate mousse. The personable servers lack grace, and the wine list is limited, but is stocked with enough selections to pair with the California-French small plates. For enjoyable food that soothes the soul at a fair price (dinner for two with wine $65), visit Le Petite Robert.

Charming and Cheerful

by datrojanghogan

Went here for Mother's Day and ordered the French style omelet, roasted chicken hash, and a side of homemade sausages - all very well prepared. The service was perfect. Charming place for brunch. I can't wait to come back to try it for dinner.

Romantic Bistro

by sf_outandabout

I'll admit that the service can be poor -- from forgetting drink orders to making patrons wait a long time for service. However, if you order well, this can be a truly memorable experience. Be ready to relax over wine, enjoy lots of different small plates and soak in the warm ambiance. Maybe it's not a place to impress a date, but it's definitely a great place to take good friends.

  • Pros: Casual Bistro style
