Solid destination for Japanese cuisine along the heavily trafficked Van Ness corridor.

by Lorraine Sanders

In Short
Sushi-starved locals head here for quality rolls served by a staff that's known for being congenial and prompt. Good for groups, the casual dining room makes up for its lack of trendy decor with plenty of space for sucking down the signature Wasabi & Ginger roll served in a martini glass, as well as treats like snow-crab nigiri and toro sashimi. For the fish-shy, a full range of entrees includes usual suspects like teriyaki, katsu, sukiyaki and udon dishes.

I WILL NEVER GO BACK

by katsumag

Sushi is average at best. Service is the worst. They pretend to be nice and then talk sh*t in chinese. Slow and not attending. Don't ever order for delivery. Called twice....food was STILL ON THE WAY 1.5 hours after ordering. Rude and overpriced sushi...definitely not worth it. I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!!

good sushi. could use some help with the service

by sfggg

The sushi is always fresh & delicious at W&G. However, depending on who serves you, you could wait a long time to give your order to the waitstaff, get your food, get refills on water/drinks, etc.

  • Pros: delicious sushi (especially the rolls)
  • Cons: service, lack of parking in the neighborhood

Good food, worst service

by sumpty

The sushi and presentation was very good, fresh and creative. But the service was horrible. They forgot things, took forever, and didn't pay attention to my party. If it was amazing food I would recommend it but I can't say that I had a great experience.

Good Local Sushi Spot...

by howudoinsf

Walked by Wasabi&Ginger many times but finally stopped in last week. Started off with a sake cocktail and shrimp stars. Moved on to the tempura, salmon teriyaki and salmon rolls. All the food was very good, the menu is very diverse for a small restaurant. Decor is simple and the service is very good. A great spot for a quick bite to eat with no pretentiousness....

  • Pros: Good Service, Diverse Menu
  • Cons: None

11 out of 10 rating

Free valet, free edamame, free dessert! This is, BY FAR, my favorite sushi restaurant in the city! Everything on the menu is excellent and their innovative rolls are wonderful. It is not overpriced and the atmosphere is not snooty. I cannot say enough good things about this place. You have to go....I do about three times a month!

  • Pros: Excellent sushi, staff is great, free valet
  • Cons: Decor could be better

The Best Ever

by CrazySheep

I'm from Philadelphia and before visiting SF, I searched citysearch for the best sushi restaurant. After all that research I stumbled upon Wasabi and Ginger while walking down Van Ness. It is crazy that W&G isn't #1 on this thing. It was the most creative sushi I've ever had. I thrive on "special rolls" and they had an entire menu page PLUS daily special rolls! Really nice service and fast too. FRESH fish! Highly recommend it.

TRY SUPER DYNAMITE ROLL

by cscovic

Incredibly fresh and large sushi portions, best rolls, and free valet parking make it the best sushi spot in town. The front room with its sunken tables is a great spot for large groups to get together for sushi and drinks.
