What users are saying:
awesome staff, clean facilities, nice workout equipment
by mmoran21
I have been a member of the Embarcadero YMCA for many years now. I love how the gym is always clean and never too busy. The staff always are offering new free classes to take. I highly recommend this gym to anyone that likes to workout in a clean and safe place.
- Pros: view of the bay, updated workout equipment, friendly staff
- Cons: parking can be a issue
A wide selection of equipment, a big pool and great views make this Y one of the city's most popular.

In Short
This place attracts a suit-and-tie crowd, but lacks the snobbery of other yuppie gyms. The cardio equipment is located in two adjoining rooms and includes 18 treadmills and 14 Netpulse Internet-equipped stationary bikes. Another big plus is the five-lane, 25-meter pool; one of the largest in the city. Most of the group exercise classes are free. Others, such as Pilates, cost a nominal fee.
Haven for Harried Workers

I love my lunchtime break at the Embarcadero Y. Weather permitting I run along the Embarcadero then return for some strength work and a shower before going back to my office - refreshed and ready for a productive afternoon. If I have to run on a treadmill - at least I have a spectacular view of the bay. The staff are great. I'm working with a personal trainer and finally making improvements in my time. I love that my dues support community programs - given the choice, I'd always choose a Y over another type of facility.
- Pros: View, Equipment, Staff
- Cons: Occassional Crowding
Best place for no judgement
by acarina1
They do not try to rip you off or to sell you anything here. People are not judgemental and are not constantly people watching - everyone just wants to get healthy. Also, there is a very nice complimentary "coach" program sponsored by the Y. The only minus of the place is that it could be cleaner (especially the pool/locker room area)

I just joined the Embarcadero YMCA club and I am very pleased with it. The equipments are new, the class instructors are professional, a large program varieties, fabulous message services with reasonable rates and the best of all, the staffs are friendly and helpful.
- Pros: Friendly staffs, Inexpensive, Great value
- Cons: crowded at pool, facility is old
best gym in the city
by AeMatson
I love this gym, and they love me back. All the cardio equipment overlooks the bay - what could be better? It is a great location for those who work in the financial district. The classes they offer are well run and diverse, plus they have free yoga and pilates. The staff is incredible and the gym is always trying to keep the members more than satisfied. But the best part of all is the triathlon club!
- Pros: friendly staff, classes, location
Excellent!
by Fayewolf
I love this gym, the group classes are awesome, and the pool is clean! I highly recommend this. One more thing that is great, you don't have to go through the process like buying a used car to get your membership there, everybody is treated the same, pays the same.
- Pros: excellent group class, lots of equipments
- Cons: expensive, parking
