Great cheap dive restaurant
by juna
Just a down right good freaking deal for a cheap place to eat after a cray work-out.
If you're into bloddy marys, the back bar has a spicy kick-butt version of this.
- Pros: Food & View
- Cons: No Service - but that's the fun
If you have to try it, stay outside!

Excellent location and View! Too Bad the service is rude and slow. Not to mention the restroom is one of the
filthiest I've ever seen. Food quality is average at best. Too bad, once had an excellent reputation. Who cares about price go to someplace sanitarty.
- Pros: Low Prices
- Cons: Filthy premises.
An old-fashioned, no-frills burger shack with a prime Embarcadero location.

In Short
Perched over the bay at Pier 30, where it has been since 1923, the pine-paneled shack has a prime view of the Bay Bridge. The clientele includes bug-spattered bikers, beefy dock workers and nearby condo dwellers, all with a taste for beer and the most basic and inexpensive of lunches. The menu features hamburgers, hot dogs, chili dogs, fries and a few basic sandwiches. Drinks include coffee, soda and beer.
A San Francisco Landmark
by newguysfo
I think this place still deserves it's status as a must see SF landmark. It's really popular with the lunch crowd. There's a picture on the wall showing that Red's was there while the Bay Bridge was originally being built. I used to come here with my kids for lunch while they were in kindergarten, and now they are in their twenties. I went there when Red was still working, albeit getting on in age. So , yeah, it's not the same without him. And Back then I fed the family for about 5 bucks. So, yeah, it's more expensive now... so is SF real estate. But it's still a value. Get the burgers, the sandwiches, combination meals with fries and a drink. Remember you can substitute soft drinks for the beer if you're not into alcohol. You can get chips instead of fries, and the fish and chips can be had for a change. And in the old days I just sat on the edge of the pier and threw my excess bread to the pigeons and gulls, but now you can sit on the patio and watch all the chinese ships arrive in SF Bay full and leave empty.
- Pros: Enjoy the history and the view and it's fast
- Cons: OK, the food is not gormet, you get what you pay for

no frills for sure. Lots of outside seating on some of those great sunny afternoons. THe fish & chips is real tasty! Burgers are good. Everything is inexpensive, and they make great bloody marys!
- Pros: cheap, tasty, good drinks
- Cons: pidgeons!
No Hassle Lunch
by mason_wong
A lot of guys line up for burgers and dogs because this place is pretty much a no hassle lunch spot. I wouldn't say it's super cheap and the burgers are not the best in town, but I like going because it's simple, it's quick, and it's consistent. A bowl of chili goes well with a burger. The fish and chips are also tasty. Get there well before the lunch rush on sunny days to grab a table on the back patio. There are more days without Giants games than with throughout the year, so just go when there is less of a crowd.
- Pros: outdoor patio, no hassle, kinda cheap
- Cons: average food, long lines
Great SF Landmark Starting Fade...
by dietcoke88
This used to be one of my favorite spots before the Giant's moved into the area. The arrival of the Giant's have definitley made the owners rich but, the place has lost a lot of its charm. It used to be a great place to steal away to at lunch and grab a decent meal for very little cash. The place has tradition and history that is unfortunately starting to fade. What's up with the patio and flat panel TV? It has become less of a SF landmark and more of just a pre-game drinking hangout.
- Pros: Cheap Eats, Tradition
- Cons: Game Days, Crowds
What could be better...

A nice sunny day, outside, having a burger and a drink right on the bay. Magnificent views of the bridge and east bay.
- Pros: inexpensive, good parking, incredible view
- Cons: average food
