OK, sure it's touristy, but you have to do it!
by ironeagle48162 at Citysearch
My hubby and I recently visited San Fran from Arizona. We took the cable car from the Pier area up to Lombard Street. It looked just how I expected it to, but it had more impact in person. The flowers were beautiful! From there, we walked up to Coit Tower (a hard walk!). Sure, there's lots of tourists around taking pictures, but this is a uniquely San Francisco experience and you have to do it at least once!
- Pros: Beautiful!
- Cons: Can be crowded at times
Just so you can say you did it...

Not much you can say, it is a crooked street. You feel a bit dumb navigating all the one way streets to get here, but then you notice all the other tourists doing the same thing. Put the pride down and go for it.
Sharp curves, lush flora and beautiful views make the "Crookedest Street in the World" a favorite stop for visitors.

The Scene
Between Hyde and Leavenworth, Lombard Street snakes its way down Russian Hill. Lombard's eight switchbacks, beautiful shrubs and flowers and stunning bay views draw in tourists by the carload. Suggestion: See it on foot--you'll avoid the traffic and have the time to savor Lombard Street in all its crooked glory.
Facts
You'll get the best view of the curves, houses and French hydrangeas if you start at the bottom. A hike to the top will avail you of unsurpassed views of the bay, Telegraph Hill and North Beach. Who would have thought that a 1920s effort to deal with the extreme slope of Russian Hill would become one of San Francisco's top tourist attractions? Actually, Lombard is the second crookedest street in the city, but Vermont Street just isn't as pretty.
Lombard- Worth it.

I have lived in San Francisco and if you would like to drive the crookedest street, this is the one for you. Walking is also fun. With the beautiful flowers, view and homes it is the greatest.
- Pros: View of the city, Beauiful flowers, Great looking homes
Only in SF

Sure, it's a gimmick -- but you've gotta make the trek over to the crooked part of Lombard on a trip to SF. It's fun for taking photos and wandering a bit. And, hey, it's free. There's not a whole lot else to do than look, but also close is Coit Tower.
- Pros: A must-see spot
- Cons: Tough to park
One of a kind

This is a magnificant view. The cobblestone street is beautifully lined w/ flowers and groomed yards. While the lines can be long on weekends/summer, it is worth it. Or better yet, take a walk.
