Great local

by bobmatson

500 Club is a great local for you to curl up into a booth with your friends and get drunk and talk.

It's easy to get drinks, they are cheap, and the general feel of the place is drunken.

I always feel good after a couple of beers there.

It's great for just small social hangs during the day. Perfect.

Plus they have bbqs a lot as well. awesome.

  • Pros: great place to sit and socialize.
  • Cons: slightly judgmental crowd.

Quintessential Mission Dive Bar

by alec800

This is a quintessential Mission dive bar. Get Tecate & Pabst in the can for cheap (I think it was $2.50) or step up to a quality beer from the tap such as Speakeasy. They have a full bar that is good as well.

All walks of life frequent this bar: Mission hipsters, leather bikers, the cleaner cut sports fans, guys, chicks, straight, gay, etc. I love the fireplace on cold, foggy, summer nights. The age range is also varied, from twenty-something to mid forties.

Ive lived in the Mission for 5 years and as 16th street gets busier, this bar has become more and more popular. Sometimes the place is so packed you cant get a seat whereas before it was never difficult.

Parking here is difficult if not impossible. Take public transit or, if you must drive, park at the Hoff garage (at 16th).

  • Pros: Great Neighborhood, Inexpensive, Laid Back
  • Cons: Sometimes Packed

A quintessential Mission watering hole with a rec-room feel and Sunday barbecues.

by Contributor

The Scene
It's a true neighborhood bar: Patrons range from frat-bred sports enthusiasts to punkabilly greasers in bowling shirts to golden retrievers begging for popcorn. Twenty-somethings relax in padded booths, watching the Giants game on TV. At the jukebox, leather pants mingle with weathered jeans, debating over Blondie and Sarah Vaughan. At times, the staff is hard to distinguish from the customers--a long-bearded septuagenarian clearing glasses might be balancing a pool cue in his other hand.

The Draw
Everything in the club has a liquor insignia on it, from the countless mirrors on the wall to the Jim Beam pool table in back. The built-in fireplace (though seldom ablaze) adds to the "family" atmosphere. Chili lights hang from the ceiling and mix with the reddish glow of Jagermeister shots. An ATM is stationed conveniently next to the bar.

Under 25 Club

by EricRorer

The crowd tends to be awfully young here. If you're down for that kind of energy, it's a nice place to hang. Every weekend the barkeeps set up a barbecue on the sidewalk, which is always a mellow scene. The pool table in back usually has some action, and the juke box ain't bad.

  • Pros: Hip but Mellow, Beer Specials
  • Cons: Very Young Crowd
