Don't order tamales!
by BruceKlimoski
The tamales served to me were 90 percent corn meal. I expect better from an "Authentic" restaruant.
Great view- terrible food
by LitlleMac
A beautiful day in Tiburon spoiled by the worst Mexican food ever! We shared the appetizer combo. It was like someone took Pillsbury crescent rolls and stuffed them with cheese. The tamales tasted like they had dog food as the filling. Avoid this place - even the great view isn't worth it.

Great View and Food, Hostess Seating Service Poor
by tomareis
We had a rough start here as after being sent upstairs by the hostess an 'upstairs hostess' asked if he 'had reservations...I wondered why she would ask us that if we were sent by up by downstairs hostess?? When we said no, she wanted to sit four of us and a 9 month old baby in a small 4-top table. The place was quiet and there were plenty of large tables . We asked for a larger table and she protested and then finally sat us at a 6 person round table. She claimed that 'someone was going to hurt her" for doing it. I guess we were special!
After that we did really enjoy the food ( the pork was fantastic) and you cannot beat the view of the water - excellent! The waiter was fine and we had a good meal.
Enjoy!
- Pros: View, menu items
- Cons: Hostess Seating Poor
worth the drive
by melisskev
Coming from the East Bay the drive into Tiburon was well worth it, The food was excellent, and I have to say the previous reviews have not done this establishment justice, by any means. Everything about our experience was great. It was alittle drafty , but other then that a 4 star rating. Prompt service, and excellent food, I will definetly be returning .
- Pros: prompt service
- Cons: chilly
A Nice Excursion from SF
by blkestin
I've been to Guaymas 3 times and was surprised when I just read all the negative reviews. I've had pretty consistently good food here and it's a great place to take out-of-towners (the ferry ride + the view makes for a nice little outing). I'm not going to say it's the best Mexican food I've ever had, but the tamales are very good (especially the pork ones) and the seafood and rice dishes are very tasty. And of course, I highly recommend the Guaymas margarita. The service could definitely use some improvement in terms of speed, but if you are going to Guaymas, you should go with a more relaxed mindset and not be in such a rush.
- Pros: The waterfront view, the seafood
- Cons: The service
Avoid this place 24/7

I kept telling my wife that we needed to take the Ferry from where we live (SF) to Tiburon and eat lunch at Guaymas. We packed up our day gear and headed down to the Wharf and jumped on the Ferry. I hadn't been to Guaymas since 1998 but the day was so nice I was sure we would have a good time.
When we got off the Ferry and stepped into Guaymas we were sat almost immediately. We sat at our table for ten minutes before a busser came over with some cold tortillas and tasty salsas. We had no water or napkins. Ten minutes later a waiter came over and apologized that nobody had taken our drink order. We ordered our drinks and ten minutes later we got up and walked out without our drinks ever being delivered. Thiry minutes and all we got was an apology for pretty much nothing. The guy who sat us said, "thank you" when we were leaving after I told him what happend. Wrong thing to say Dude. Next time say, "I'm sorry. Would you like to speak with a manager."
Something for Guaymas to consider. Most people take bad service personally. It's an easy way to lose sophisticated dining clientele when you have a terrible wait-staff. I will never take anyone to your restaurant and will strongly not-recommend your establishment.
- Pros: View
- Cons: Can't tell you about the food. Our order was never taken in the 30 min. we were there.
Disappointing

We went to Guaymas yesterday to celebrate my fiancees birthday. I'd last been there in 2002 and remember the food as excellent. Well, something has changed. I found the food to be very bland, uninspiring and unrefined compared to when I last visited. The venue also looks more run down, with a clogged toilet and a broken soap dispenser in the restroom, and general wear and tear everywhere. It was also freezing cold, even though we were sitting inside.
On the plus side, I found the service to be very good, and the margaritas were outstanding. I highly recommend the Mexicana, which I found very refreshing.
- Pros: Margaritas, Customer Service
- Cons: Bland, tasteless food
A change is needed
by wallstpup
My last visit has been the worse. I will never eat here again which is sad. The food quality has been declining. The pork was dry and bland. The shrimp were way too few and were also bland. The chips were greasy. As always the salsas are great and so is the view. The love of serving a great mexican plate has lost its way here. It used to be such a treat.
- Pros: view
- Cons: food, service, parking
Surprised by the reviews!
by achin
I've always enjoyed Guaymas since the 90s, and I try to bring out of town guests there to enjoy the view of San Francisco, the outdoor dining, and the portions of food. As with any restaurant, I'm sure that it has gone through phases. However, all the times that I've been there, I've never really had problems, like the ones listed in the recent reviews. I'm not sure what dishes the people have tried to say that it's bland. The ceviche is tasty, and so is the carnitas plate. My only complaints have been with the front host/hostess. The person there always seems harried. Overall, I would recommend to try at least once, especially for those seeking an experience outside of San Francisco. Make a day trip of it by taking the Ferry in from the City, exploring the Ark shops, and then having an early dinner before heading back!
