User Reviews for West End Nursery

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

I love to visit West End Nursery every time I come to Marin. This is a great nursery with a wide variety of healthy plants. It also has great garden accessories and ornaments. My mother introduced me to West End many years ago. Now we both love it, even at Christmas when there is a large assortment of decorations for the home. I'm a King County Master Gardener in Washington State with one foot in California.

Pros: good parking, customer service, product

Cons: a little hard to find, far away in San Rafael

Everyone is always extremely helpful, knowledgeable and always friendly. Great selection of plants, and pretty much everything else I need for my garden.

Friendly, knowledgeable, family buisness. The place I go to find help and nice people. They have quality products and resonable prices. We need to support our local buisnesses. Shop here without hassle or lines.

How has this merchant stayed in business so long?? I went to this nursery for the first time last week seeking advice on which trees to plant to accomplish my landscaping privacy goals. It was very difficult to find someone to help and finally I asked the woman behind the counter for some assistance. Beyond acting annoyed that I had bothered her she then leaned on the far end of the counter and "hollered" (for a lack of a better term) at me rather than coming around to discuss my needs. When she realized that I wasn't going to go away she begrudgingly came outside to help. I went back this week to actually buy at least $1000 worth of trees, plants and planters and after about 20 minutes of trying to find someone to help I was asked if I needed any help by a gentleman. I had some follow up questions on some of the suggestions the first woman had made and he must have rolled his eyes at me as if I were stupid on five occasions and completely contradicted some of what the woman had told me the week before. Then he actually told me that he had no plant suggestions for a privacy hedge or trees that would grow quickly. Can this be such an unusual request?? So I then went inside with the man to pick out a small container of fertilizer and when I started to walk back outside to look at more plants he yelled at me "hey, are you going to pay for that?" as if I were stealing a $10 can of merchandise. Needless to say I didn't buy anything and that will be my last visit - but thanks for wasting my time with rude behavior and misinformation. Nice work!

After being a customer of West End Nursery for almost 40 years, I was a bit shocked by the rude behavior of the owner today. I had recently bought a deer deterrent after being assured that it was an organic and natural product. When I got home and read the label, I was concerned by the product's statement that any contact with skin could be hazardous. When I went back to the nursery to discuss the product with the owner, he didn't even let me complete a sentence before he ripped the bag out of my hand. I had gone back to West End with the intention of discussing the product with the owner, but was happy to get my money back. After all the years of patronage with this nursery, I am sorry to say that I won't be shopping there in the future.
