User Reviews for Planet Canine

5 Star Rating: Highly Recommended

I have a friend that works there...the dude is a member of MENSA, ok! He and fiancee own a dog kennel in Alaska and co-own a police dog training center in Santa Rosa. He trained with Patricia Conwell and appeared on her show on Animal Planet on two occasions. He is a certified Assistance/Seeing Eye dog trainer from Canine Companions for Independence, and finally (I think) he and I are composing a book. I would trust any of my dogs in Planet Canine's hands.

Pros: Everything

Cons: None

Place was clean and the staff are really nice and very accomodating. I would recommend this place if someone asked me about it.

Pros: Staff, Price

Cons: Small space, wish it were a bit bigger.

We've left our dog here on every vacation where she could not join us. The staff is friendly and everyone I've met is an obvious dog lover. I don't think I've ever written an online review for anything, however upon reading the reviewer who claimed his/her animal was beaten... I felt I had to add my two cents. Our dog actually was abused before we rescued her 6 years ago. She is very shy and easily spooked by strangers. She has a fear of abandonment which generally throws her into a panic at the thought of being left behind. It is a rare person who can comfort her and calm her when she enters a place she senses she may be left behind (most notably the vet, or a kennel). The folks at Planet Canine are these rare people. Our dog is more calm and collected with them than I've seen her with animal handlers at other kennels. The folks at Planet Canine know her by name, and from what I've seen, treat her like a member of the family. I have never witnessed the slightest sense of anxiety from her upon picking her up after a stay - and would be very skeptical of anyone who claimed otherwise.

Pros: Staff are genuinely interested and engaging with dogs.

Cons: Could have bigger space... so could my house... such is the cost per sq ft in Marin

I am the proprietor of Planet Canine. I have been in business for 13 years. I question the veracity of a couple of the reviews. We don't beat or torment the dogs, they are our pack and we love them. If one of the dogs in my care got an eye infection or a cough I would certainly. If I suspect ANY health issues with a dog the first thing we do is take them to the vet; before we even contact their human. Eye infections and coughs can be very contagious; the care facility would want to know. I have never had kennel cough in my facility, ever. If an animal got ill due to negligence in our care it is company policy to cover the cost of veterinary care; so I wonder about Edith. I wonder about some-one who wouldn't discuss their issues with the care facility. We ALWAYS let people view our facility. We always have. If the dogs running around we might not let you into the playroom (you are a stranger to them) but we will certainly open the door so you can see where the dogs play and sleep. I realize that folks use screen names but neither Ralph's nor Edith's stories are ringing any bells. I did have a lawyer bring a dog for daycare. On the third visit his dog bit another dog and the injury required medical attention. He had signed a contract stating that his dog was not aggressive with other dogs. He had $50 credit which just about covered the medical care. When I expelled his dog and wouldn't give him his $50 back he told me he would make my life a living hell. Perhaps these reviews are what he was talking about. Nothing like a little slander to ruin some one. We painted and cleaned and remodeled in February. If you really want to know about my place, come visit.

Pros: Personal care and 9 hrs a day of play

Cons: Would love a larger facility

I have been taking my dog here for a couple of years. She loves it. The employees are very kind to the animals. They take dogs on field trips and for walks in addition to letting them play and socialize. There has never been a problem. I am not sure if the other reviewers are bogus or what but Planet Canine would not be in business if they were abusing animals. The Planet rocks.

Pros: Staff

I took my dog here for a few days, he came back coughing and with an eye infection. To give the place the benefit of the doubt, I took him here again, and he came back skittish(as the previous poster had said, like he had been struck) AND with another eye infection. The staff is cold, and they won't let you see the back rooms(they claim it traumatizes the animals?!?!). I would say, the only motivation to employ Planet Canine would be the enjoyment of torturing animals.

I have been taking my dogs to Planet Canine since 1997. I use their services for both daycare and boarding. My dogs get all wriggley and happy before I even pull into the driveway! I even left my dogs for three weeks while I traveled in Europe. When I returned they were happy and healthy! I would recommend Planet Canine to anyone.

Pros: Allot of play time for my pups. Save, caring environment.

We took our dog here for daycare. The second time we picked her up she would cringe when you put your hand out to pet her. We immediately took the dog to a animal training expert who said it was obvious that the dog had been beaten or abused by someone. She was never like that before we went here. This place abuses animals DO NOT GO HERE!!!!

Cons: The abuse animals
