Editorial Review for White Sulphur Springs Resort – by James Wevley
The Scene
Nestled in a canyon and surrounded by acres of redwoods and firs, White Sulphur Springs is California's first hot springs resort. Founded in 1852, the spa's scenic beauty appeals to those looking for a peaceful holiday that escapes the trappings of more froufrou spas. Small to medium-sized rustic cottages dot the property, and babbling creeks and waterfalls run throughout the more than 300 acres.
The Services
Spa offerings include outdoor massages (for singles or couples), facials and various body treatments, including mud and seaweed wraps. Standard massages employ Swedish techniques, administered by the resort's kind and courteous staff. All spa visitors can access a heated outdoor jacuzzi, swimming pool and sulphur soaking pool.

Insider Tips
Watch Your StepSince a bit of your time is spent walking outdoors from the spa to the heated pools, bringing your own sandals is advised. The complimentary sandals furnished by the spa are less than durable.
Remember Your Bathing SuitTo maximize your spa experience, the staff recommends 15-20 minutes spent loosening up in the outdoor pools before your session begins.

It's exclusively used by the Hoffman Institute for their classes. The location is beautiful and the road is public. But, after parking (legally) and walking a bit, we returned to our car to find a printed note under our wiper blade that was titled, "General Notice of Trespassing". The notice was mildly threatening, implying that we were probably breaking the law simply by spending 45 minutes on the public road. I would avoid the institute and the road. It is a shame that anonymous hostility exists in public spaces.

I cannot believe a place like this exists in Calistoga; home of world famous spas!! I am not sure if this facility gets more business than they need.... questions were not answered clearly...when asked again..these were the exact words; "leave a message at the spa extension, someone will call you back" I am so very disappointed at the lack of professionalism nor any courtesy in a hosptality industy. If anyone want to be treated to a relaxing weekend get away.. try googling some other place. I cannot believe my absolute first rating for any facility in Calistoga is such a negative one but I wanted everyone to know.
Cons: customer service
