Not All That.
I too am a true Texan and ate my fair share of Texas BBQ. I believe that the good reviews from others and the top 10 rating for Willy's can be explained more by the lack of BBQ places in the Bay Area than by the quality of Willy's food. Store-bought BBQ meats are significantly better.
The sausages and brisket I had were dry and tasteless compared to what I am used to. I can only guess that they started off with the wrong fat content (crucial for proper juicyness) and spicing, then improperly smoked the meat (do they even have a smoker?), and after this torture, the meat then sat under a heat lamp.
There wasn't anything particularly wrong with the place except for the food, but that is, after all, what I went there for.

Close to TX bbq.
Other than Back 40 Texas Bar-b-que located in Pleasant Hill and San Ramon, Armadillo Willy's comes the closest to being "TEXAS" bbq. It it delicious. I enjoyed the chopped beef sandwhich and on another location the sliced beef. Their onion rings are great!

Great food, Fast Service, fun place.
The smoker is right up front - you can see where
and how they cook their meats. The food is very
tasty - the bbq sauce is on the side - so no trying
to coverup what's lacking in the meat. They move
large crowds of people through quickly. Their kid's
menu works for my fussy children. They also offer
food to go so you can order BBQ by the pound to
serve up to the large party at home.
