BEWARE!!!. After giving them the benefit of the doubt from my first encounter, I took a chance and ordered sushi and chicken katsu for dinner tonight from Tokies. It was an awful mistake and now I have to post this review.

For those in the Foster City area, I must warn you to think twice before ordering take out from this restaurant. If you decide to disregard this post and try it out yourself, then make sure you add an extra 20 minutes to the wait time. Why? I placed an order over the phone this evening at 7:45pm and was told by the owner that it would be ready in 20 minutes. When I arrived 20 minutes later, the order was still in the process of being prepared by the chefs. They had three chefs at the bar and the restaurant wasn't at full capacity. Again, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and waited patiently for another 10 minutes. Time passed and still nothing. I waited and waited and waited. I looked at my watch and it was 8:25pm. Wow! How long does a person have to wait for something he ordered over 30 minutes ago. I finally requested a refund and left empty handed.

Well, after tonight, I will no longer spend my hard earned money on Tokies. I rather clog my arteries at the nearby Carl's Jr.. At least, I'll know the food will be ready and in my month within minutes.

By the way, I must also add that the quality of the sushi is below average. The tuna is not fresh, their unagi tasted like several days old based on its texture, and the seaweed from the rolls fall apart.

Loyal following. I've been twice, both times I went with one of their many loyal regular customers. Service is very good, always with a smile. Very good sushi, tasty maki rolls, tasty hot food too. The best fried aji bones (not on the menu) I've ever had. Once every few days, they feed the pet fish in the aquarium with live tiny goldfish. Excellent entertainment to watch for a minute or two, with the pet fish chasing and devouring the live fish food!!

Great Sushi. I have been going to Tokie's over 15 years and have always found it to be great. No matter how many years it has been since I have been there I can always be confident that Tokie's will not disappoint my guests or me.

Best sushi around here. I found this place by accident in a very quiet shopping plaza and stopped in on a weeknight. It was surprisingly busy and now I know why. The sushi was beautifully prepared and very very fresh. Not as dirt cheap as some of the little places in downtown San Mateo but worth the extra $ for higher quality, more pleasant surroundings and easier parking.

the BEST!. i have been weened on tokie's sushi. it is simply the best i have ever had. the service is impeccable, the food delicious and of course fresh, and just fabulous! i've been to many other sushi bars etc, over time. they can not even be compared to tokie's. so please, even if it's out of the way, you gotta try this local hot spot.
