15 Romolo, revamped by Scott Baird and Aaron Smith, is good for a little North Beach ala Ginsberg instead of North Beach ala tourists in sweat suits. Upon entrance, the dark, noirish feel of this spacious and pleasantly un-bustling bar is a relief after the retina-scorching neons of the Broadway Strip just half a block down but a world away. This is a serious cocktail joint, with two of the city's top bartenders, which means that the best seats in the house are at the bar where patrons can watch these skilled mixologists artfully crafting drinks with names like the Fiscal Agent, which…

"We do not serve your kind here"
My kind? I'm sorry but hearing that from a bartender I'm automatically going to take major MAJOR offense to that. Whether or not that idiot individual didn't mean what I assume, one should never say that no matter whatt. That person should not only be fired but should be exiled from this melting pot of a city.
I'm sorry the last time I checked it's 2011. I never thought that I would ever here that phrase in SF.
Sat. Night. Bachelorette Party. 15 Romolo was our second stop of the night.
Entered the place around 10:15, not super busy. I walked right up to the bar.
5 Min. Wait, tall brunette bartender was chatting with some guys finally asks me for what I wanted. I asked for the drink menu.
10 Mins. later. Tried to get her attention but she was preoccupied asking everyone else first.
10 Mins. later, a guy approaches me. I ordered a pitcher of sangria and a drink special. The guy walks away.
10 Mins. past. Where is this guy? Oh yeah, he's in the complete opposite end of the bar serving a bunch of people drinks. I mean it's a pretty simple order. Really? Another 5 minutes past.
Brunette girl finally asks me what I wanted to order. I tell her firmly, that man (pointing at the guy from the opposite end of the bar) took my order along time ago and he's clearly serving other people.
Brunette walks over to the guy and comes back with our drinks a few more minutes later. She takes my card & asks for the amount of glasses I wanted with attitude. I was tagging myself on yelp and wrote "terrible service"...she looks down at my iphone (I know you see it) and I said 8.
I turn to my bridesmaid& apologize that I was holding up the group since we still need to go to the next bar. I then say, "Wow this place has terrible terrible service. I never in my life waited this long for drinks. Shitty service for sure." I guess the brunette bartender heard me so she walked over GRABBED the pitcher and my drink from us (it has been sitting on the table already for a good two minutes and I WAS IN ALREADY DRINKING MY DRINK) and then while holding our order walks to the other end of the bar.
She comes back a minute later and tells me, "I don't like how you are talking. WE DO NOT SERVE YOUR KIND HERE. You can leave"
What?! Even my cousin turned to me shocked and asked, "did I just hear that?"
#1. I clearly was sober so I know I was not acting ghetto (I only had one drink prior, so no) I was not sloppy and I clearly stated the facts. It was bad service and it was the slowest bar-tending service I've gotten in the city. I NEVER PERSONALLY attacked any of the workers or got aggressive with anyone. I stated my opinion to my group of friends. There is nothing wrong with that scenario. I have multiple witnesses that saw this transaction and all of them where dumbfounded with what just happened since they clearly saw that I did nothing wrong.
#2. How UNPROFESSIONAL are you to take a drink and pitcher someone is drinking away from them and walk to the back with it?!! Who does that? Then she comes back and expects us to finish the drink and leave?
I wanted to slap the ignorant bartender but I didn't want to ruin the night, especially since the bride was right behind me and in good spirits oblivious with what just happened. Instead, I asked for my money back and then left with the rest of bridesmaids.
I truly hope you all spread the word about this bar. I really wish you FIRE that tall brunette I'm mad I never asked for her name. Please feel to tell your Asian friends that our kind isn't accepted there. I really feel sorry for that bartender, clearly her parents didn't raise her right and she is so insecure with constructive criticism she has to make her entire bar suffer for her lack of ethics.
Please if you have time check Yelp. Owner did not even bother to apologize for the bartender's actions*
Hidden gem!

This place is hidden in an alley way, but if you can find it, it's worth it! The bartenders are supper nice, and attentive, drinks are good...although my martini didn't exactly turn out like it was supposed too, but it was still pretty tasty!
It's cozy and dim, sort of romantic if it weren't for all the other people in there.
- Pros: Cozy, and fun.
- Cons: None that I can think of.

I usually avoid Broadway like the plague because it's not really my scene. However, after a stop here I was blown away by the place. There is a casual yet stylish aura surrounding the place that also serves up a mean cosmo. The staff was unbelievably friendly and I was able to order a drink within the five minutes I was standing at the bar on a Friday night. I would highly recommend giving this place a chance.
- Pros: friendly staff, great drinks, ambiance
This is a residential hotel

This really is not a "tourist" hotel; people live here in pretty cramped rooms with no TV's and pay rent by the month.
- Pros: Cheap local living, Neighborhood
- Cons: , No private bath, Dont allow cooking
Very nice lounge with welcoming staff

I usually tend to avoid these kinds of places because the clientele has that urban yupster feel that I really detest. But on my one visit to 15 Romolo, the staff was exceptionally charming and I felt the price I paid for my imported beer was pretty good for a place that looks this upscale. I was in a t-shirt and blue jeans and didn't feel out of place at all. It looked like a good conversation lounge with comfortable sofa's and chairs scattered around low tables and the lighting is a nice, subdued level. Most of the staff speak fluent Italian.
- Pros: Relaxing atmosphere, Nice staff, reasonable beer costs
- Cons: , zero parking
