A Night at The Cobbs!!!!. Overall I had a great experience. I loved the show. Angelah Johnson Rocked. The staff was very accommodating, They rushed to get us chairs for the back of the club due to arriving late. Our waiter was fast on the drinks, and always there. The only downfall to this place is that they have no parking for their guests. Other than that I suggest this place to you.
Cobbs Staff and wait staff - dig for deep pockets.
This is addressed to the club, not the talent. this note is based on my last 4 times attending cobbs. Its not an isolated issue.
I have come to get used to their staff - as they have the rep in the City not to have the kindest staff and crew to patrons. (just google that topic and you will see all negative feedback the staff and club gets on various web sites). But I an others seem to be OK with that since we still keep attending the club.
cobbs wait staff knows how to get their buck out of their customers by not returning change when asked too, already adding their tip to the over priced drinks.
The bar is your profit, the talent gets most or if not all of the door - I am clear about that. I have been attending comedy shows since the peek back in the 70's - I know what clubs vs the talent make, I get that. But to allow cobbs wait staff to continue to short change customers, must be pointed out. Its Policy at Cobbs to encourage their wait staff to short change their costumers.
Cobbs wait staff really does know how to get their buck out of your customers by not returning change when asked too - already adding their tip to the over priced drinks.
Once or twice I was ok with the wait staff not returning change or adding the 15% tip to the tab, and still wanting more or keeping the change. But now (after 4 times) I see that its policy at cobbs.
It seems that way. If so - Cobbs need to post something so costumers will know in advance, no change will be returned and that the tip is added into the balance of their bar tab.
I think that's fair.
Its a fact, Cobbs club must train their staff to be as rude as they come off, because its been that way since the wharf location. Don't worry, your pals across the city are just a rude .. but they don't "keep the change" as your staff is trained to do.
I know their is not patrons can do. The club continues to still sell out, and the lines will always be strong based on the comics they book. But I do feel its an embarrassment for their comics to encourage the house to tip the wait staff - when in fact the staff is already deep in their costumers pockets.
Horrible Night at Cobbs. DO NOT GO TO COBBS. I have went to Cobbs on occasion to see headliners. The other night I went to see Mike Epps and Dominique who were hilarious, but it was hard to concentrate on the show. Do not go if you want to have a wonderful night out. My two friends and I made this mistake. We showed up dressed, directly after work, without eating dinner, paid $20 for parking and waited in a god awful line. The staff and security are very rude and never show any politeness. When we were seated I informed the guy the table was wet; he gave me a total attitude like I was stuck up and told me to sit at the next table. We waited through the whole first act for the waitress to come over. We ordered all our food and drinks at once, because we saw how understaffed they were, and how rude our waitress was. We then waited for our drinks, like another half hour. We tried to get our waitress' attention, but she ignored us. Finally, after two hours we informed her we didn't get our food. She said she'd check, then said your ticket was lost and the kitchen was closed. We asked the girl for some complimentary drinks and she said she would bring us some complimentary water. After several incidences we were mad, and hungry, and disgusted. We got our bill and there were several things on our bill which was not ours. Naturally, we wanted to speak to management, but they were crooks that were just as rude. There was no accommodations made, nor was any kind of apology given. We paid the tab, but we will NEVER go back to Cobbs again. And I am warning other people, the atmosphere is blah, and the whole club doesn't know how to entertain. As a San Francisco native, the atmosphere and the service and elegance of Punchline far out due Cobbs anyway.
Unprofessional establishment. I would NEVER go there again. One of the worst night out we have ever had. Unbelievable unprofessional staff and disgusting facilities.
SOOO Funny!. We were there last night and it as awesome! The 2 guys were hilarious! The drinks are OK. Parking is horrible since it's North Beach. There are good restaurants but about 10 blocks away. We were able to buy the ticket the same night. They sell the tickets on the phone until 6 PM.
North Beach's joke haven hosts some of the nation's top yucksters..
When there's a hot act, a diverse crowd of nearly 800 well-dressed patrons can be seen standing outside. Once the doors open, waitstaff usher folks to the best table available, on a first come, first served basis. Comedians famous for being cast members on "Saturday Night Live" or appearing on David Letterman's "Late Show" typically headline here. This is a popular spot for dates and couples, and material can be extremely racy depending on the performer.
Loved it!. I have been to Cobb's three times. The first time I hated the comidian. I thought I'd give it another try for my birthday and saw Rosanne Barr. I had a blast, not to mention the drink are strong, just the way I like them!
A Great Time. We went to see Joe Rogan. It was a great time. The show before us ran over and they staff was outside checking ID's to speed up the process of us getting in. All the staff was very nice. The waitress was great. We sat in the front row of the balcony. Great view. Food and drink were a little pricey but not too bad. I recommend this place to anyone wanting to have a good time. It was clean and friendly. I went on a Saturday night at 10 pm. So it was a busy night. For good acts you need to get there at least an hour ahead of time and wait in line.
Good for Laughs. In the last year I've been to three comedy shows at Cobbs. I really enjoy live comedy and Cobbs books some pretty good comedians. I don't mind the minimum drink order, the high prices of the drinks, or being forced to sit where you'e told to sit. What I don't like, and I dread every single time I go to Cobbs, is that the door staff and the people who seat you are rude and condescending. These folks are on GIGANTIC power trips. It's insulting and barely tolerable. If you were greeted this way in a restaurant, you'd leave. Yet, I tolerate it because once I'm inside I can laugh and drink. Check out one of the comedy showcase nights; they're less expensive and just as much fun.
A Nice Place for Comedy. People who have given this place a bad review obviously haven't been to dumps like Stand Up NY and The Comic Strip in Manhattan, where the floor is sticky and smells like rotten beer. They also don't have the ability to separate the act from the place, which you need to do. Two drink minimum is the standard at any comedy club. Cobb's is clean, carpeted, has a great decor and quality sound system. We saw Emo Phillips and a couple of so-so acts. The drink menu is a little pricy, but very extensive. The staff was very friendly and the service was ok. The place was only about 1/3 full, so maybe when it's packed it's a different story, but my experience was great and I will be coming back!
