Cozy, throwback 60s restaurant with good value.. On one of our many trips wandering through North Beach, we'd poked our head into Capp's Corner and thought it looked quaint and smelled good so we gave it a try on our next trip to the city. It's a very casual place and seemed to have a lot of big groups (probably heading to Beach Blanket Babylon??). We had a short wait for a table and the service was relatively good. If you're not with a big party, you should expect to be seated very, very closely to other people -- almost like you're sharing a table. We were right next to another couple and one of the wait staff brought bread for their table and put the butter on ours, since he thought we were together..

Minestrone and salad come with every meal. The soup was tasty, even though it didn't have a lot of veggies. The salad was weak. Iceberg lettuce, some beans and sliced beets and a VERY watery dressing that could use some work. They have a lot of entree choices at $17.50 and $20 (plus a couple that are more). We had chicken parmeasan and shrimp in a marinara sauce - both were decent, especially for the price.

Wine list was very affordable, but didn't have anything that was even remotely close to a "good wine". We had their "best wine" which was a passable $30/bottle of Gabbiano Chianti Classico Riserva, but don't expect to get a really good bottle of wine here. Not sure why they wouldn't drop some of the swill and add a nice California Cab or Merlot.

RUDE workers. Smelled great when we walked in and has a cozy feel. We were told at the door that it was family style and could share an entree because of the portion size (big). This was not the case at all - the waitress snapped at us and said that the hostess "does not know what she is talking about" and she was very frustrated that we did not know how it worked. We wanted to share a portion and have soup and salad, but she said "NO sharing". I thought maybe her not so friendly attitude would be different when she came back to take our order, but it was worse. You can see she was like this with all the customers. The food took a long time to arrive and was not so great. I grew up in an Italian home and this was not authentic Italian. P.S. The bartender looked like he wanted to hurt someone. MANY other Italian places to enjoy in North Beach - dont waste your money or time here.

A throwback restaurant straight from 1954, what keeps this place bursting at the seams isn't artful cuisine, it's huge portions, low prices and a raucous atmosphere that lasts well into the wee hours. Fixed-price meals for less than $20 include fresh bread, minestrone soup and antipasto salad. For entrees, choose from substantial pasta dishes, such as baked seven-layer lasagna. Finish up with some spumoni for dessert.

Better Than Expected Service. My wife and I were part of a group of nine trying to find a restaurant

in the North Beach area on a Saturday night. It was approaching

8:30 PM, and we had to be back at our hotel no later than 9:45 to catch

our airport shuttle. Capp's was probably the sixth or seventh restaurant

that we had asked about immediate seating, and was the only one that could

take us right then. My wife's uncle let the manager know that her and I would need

to leave by 9:30 PM. The waitress let us know she would do her best to accommodate us.

The entrees for my wife and I were brought out much earlier than the rest of the

group. We were able to leave on time, and we did not feel rushed. My wife ordered

veal tortellini, and I ordered chicken parmagiano. Others at the table ordered swordfish

and beef ravioli, among other items. Once we had sat down, loaves of crusty italian bread and pats

of butter were brought to the table. The bread came in handy when the hearty minestrone

soup was brought out. The soup was a little salty, but pretty tasty otherwise. Then the salad

course was brought out to the table. The salad was a mixture of italian dressing, beans, and

sliced beets. My wife didn't care for the beets, but I thought it made an interesting touch to

the salad. My chicken parmagiano was good, but I have had better elsewhere. The sauce and

pasta that came with the chicken were very good. I thought the veal tortellini my wife ordered was

a better choice. The bread also came in handy to soak up the tomato sauce on my plate and the

gravy that was with the tortellini. We had to leave before we had the chance to order coffee or desert.

I was very impressed with the service we received, the waitress did a great job in coordinating things.

The overall quality and portions of the food would bring me back by itself, but the service will be the

reason why we will plan to eat here again on our next trip to San Francisco.

Slow, Rude service, mediocre food.. There is nothing outstanding on the menu, but it was reasonably priced.

The charm is only due to location.

The service.... So AWFUL. We had reservations for a group of 8 for noon. We ordered at 12:20. At 1:20 still no food, and had to ask for bread. At 1:30 I asked for our food and our check, and the waitress snapped that we should have told her we were pressed for time when we ordered. We got our food at 1:45, leaving us 15 minutes to eat mediocre food before dashing to the show.

The bar wasn't busy, but the bartender was rude and couldn't be bothered.

The people are snappy and rude and the service is SLOW, even if you have reservations. There are many other GOOD restaurants nearby that deserve your patronage far more than this place. I was embarrassed to take my guests to this place.

Way better than expected. I ate at Capp's last night and the food was fabulous. I had a wonderful Petrale with vegetables and mashed potatos and my date had their capellini with seafood. We were seated right away and the waiter was very good. I wouldn't call it a romantic restaurant; the plastic tablecloths don't help much. For a relaxed meal with friends, this is a great place. Their chef has not been there long, I hope they keep him. I am definitely going back.

Feel of "Little Italy". Great food and lots of it. You can spend an inordinate amount of time reading the walls. A true North Beach, Italian eatery. We've always been seated promptly. We have a lot of fun with our servers.

Cool atmoshpere, poor food. The atmosphere here feels authentic and local. The food was bland and plain. My marinara sauce was bland in color, texture and taste. My friend's alfrado sauce was the same. It didn't seem like "city food" at all. Almost like small-town food, at a local, cheap restaurant. This restaurant was on the expensive side, though. Good for atmosphere only. Cool, authentic feel.

Like mama used to make. Old-school food served by old-school people... feels like you're meeting cousin Vinnie in Hoboken -- Tasty, cheap Italian served with attitude. My faves: Tortellini and cannelloni.
