Charley charlie. The best place in town, tell charlie to call joeyD415-748-4351
Great Neighborhood Bar. This place is a real classic. We stopped by during our wanderings through the city. They made us feel right at home.
Love the people you meet in this place.
This is one of my favorite bars in North Beach. Amazing too because isn't normally my kind of place. But it's small, there is a pool table (although I don't play), they have Frank and Dean and the juke box, a huge autographed Sinatra poster in the back (which I envy!!) and the people you meet here are let's just say...friends of ours...no no, very interesting.
Not pretentious at all. Drinks aren't that cheap considering, but they're about average. Just a great place to bring some friends and hang out after work.
Shshh...they also let you bring in pizza from Golden Boy next door which coincidentally is my fav. pizza in the city!!
neighborhood bar. this made our trip.we came to have the pizza served next door[which you shouldnt miss]we looked in Gino & carlo and saw sports on a big screen..3 seattle guys looking for a place to watch sports and drink. big screens and real drinks made by 'the man' Ron. a 'real' place with 2 small pool tables in back, everyone seemed to know each other.and they included us in the fun.sitting by the door watching all sorts of poeple come and go. it was the neighborhood bar. we happened to get tickets for the thursday lunch. wow...there was no experience quite like that..salad,bread, red wine, pasta and lamb/roasted chicken main course. fun laughs and comeraderie.talking with people that have been coming to thursdays for years.move the pool tables away, set up the tables and eat.. We will return on our next trip to North Beach SF
Boisterous Italian-American chums make this little watering hole a friendly North Beach find..
In Short
This neighborhood sports bar has been around since 1942, back when some of the regulars who now line the oak wood bar were just babies. Today, they play on G&C's sports teams, scarf quality Italian grub at the weekly luncheon, or yell at the game (football or baseball) on the plasma TV. The size of the mixed drinks cower in comparison to the beers, but with the bartender's heavy pour, imbibers will soon be singing "Volare" along with the jukebox.
Feels like home.... My date asked me to meet him at Gino and Carlos before we went to dinner in North Beach. I felt comfertable the moment I stepped through the door. I liked it so much I asked my date to take me there more often. I developed a crush on Frank, he's so nice! All the bartenders are cool. They make me feel like family. They even gave me coins to play my favorite songs in the juke box! I suggest checking it out before or after dinner in North Beach.
cen'tanni.
i first darkened the g&c doorstep in 1990. fresh meat in the beach as a resident of varennes st, gino's had a warmth that i learned was flowing from its principal owner, donato rossi. over the years, as i grew to know donato and his family, i realized what a unique individual he is. today i helped to celebrate donato's life with a few hundred of his friends. to honor donato, i will walk dogs at the spca and tell every dog what a great man he is.
thanks, donato.
User review by jwtercero. G&C is place where you can enjoy life and not worry about what others say and do. It is always a pleasant place to be,the bartenders are all a classy bunch.
Gino and Carlo - my fave North Beach hang out.
as a visitor to SFO, G&C provides a home from home. Big Time! Mix of people is perfect, low key and non of this trendy yuppie atmosphere here. I have had great conversations both with bartenders and patrons.
Gino and Carlo is great all hours of the day though it is questionable to see that the people you talked to just before closing time are also the first back in and they are not drinking coffee... BTW, the coffee at G&C is absolute crap - stick to beer or shots of Jaeger.
Just love their italian classics juke box selection. Great place to hang out, end the night and, with the odd Sinatra, even this sportsbar with pool table can get romantic in a 1950s italo-american kinda way
Ciao i a presto, guys!
the ideal nightcap. Good people and good drinks. You can learn alot about north beach through the locals that frequent the bar. Many frequenters are 2nd or 3rd generation. Overall good place to have a drink and end the night.
