Best breakfast in San Francisco!. My friend, David, and I had breakfast at Joanie's every morning for a week when we were in SF in 2005. What a wonderful feast! The selections were outstanding, and we sampled many variations during our stay in a nearby overpriced hotel. The host seated us outside in the fresh morning air, and we enjoyed our coffee and magnificent entrees across from a beautiful and relaxing tree-filled park. I can't wait to visit this quaint and wonderful little cafe on our next visit to beautiful San Francisco.
Colorful, friendly Fisherman's Wharf diner with standard American fare..
In Short
Visitors to the touristy end of Columbus near the Wharf are drawn to this diner's splashy exterior and inexpensive menu, hence the bustling crowd. Decor is not the retro retreat one would expect--rustic wooden tables and chairs fill the no-frills space, and large windows let in lots of natural light. Families feast on hearty omelets, burgers and other home-style favorites for breakfast and lunch only.
Absolutely delicious!. I am a local around the North Beach area. I stumbled to Joanie's after a morning jog to grab some breakfast before meeting some friends. I was immediately seated as soon as there was a table ready. You have to avoid the crowds as this place is small, but very busy! The burgers were delicious! Possibly the best that I've ever tasted. As for the waffles, very crisp and the fruit was freshly cut and placed on top. I would highly recommend this place and I am a regular. Get there early or in the afternoon to avoid the crowds.
Yummy!!. On my vacation with my husband and two kids, we were recommended by locals to Joanie's. The service was very attentive, the fruit salad we ordered was made fresh for us, and the waffle with fruit was topped with fluffy whip cream. The diner is very cozy, glass windows for views and has outdoor seating with the view of a cute little park. We highly recommend this diner for its charm, and fabulous food and service. It feels like home!

muscle. this place is just as stated. A DINER!! the seating is impersonal, cramped, croweded. they have a listing the window of an article from chronicale, that states, " when Joanies is good they are great" they left out the seconf part that stares "but, when they are bad they are horrible" printed in SF Chronicle. The eggs where a bit greasy. the bacon, was not throughly cooked, My wife;s order was cold and greasy, WIth a little nore effort this place has the potential to be okay. But, as Of now, I would suggest another place, there are better resturants on the same block!!
