What People Are Saying About House Restaurant

In Short – With a menu inspired by the overlapping culinary traditions of Chef Larry Tse's heritage, this frequently packed restaurant puts an innovative twist on the fusion concept. In a dining room with blond wood tables, a slate floor and moss-colored walls punctuated by unobtrusive modern art prints, patrons delight in the carefully assembled wine list and sup on entrees like flatiron steak atop warm wasabi noodles and chicken breast with roasted Portobello mushrooms drizzled in white truffle oil sauce.

Editor's Tips

What to Drink:
The list of wines is lengthy, well-chosen and quite reasonably priced, but the selection of Chinese teas comes with tasting notes for those not in the know.
Parking:
Nearby parking lots on Broadway routinely cost $10 or more and street parking is hard to come by, especially at night and on weekends.
Save Time:
Reservations are recommended.

DELICIOUS AND FRIENDLY

by FussonaBudget at Citysearch

Whenever I've got guests in town I take them to The House and we all leave feeling well fed and happy with the relatively low cost. Great fish dishes with lots of imaginative pairings, wonderful salads, to-die-for-sandwiches at lunch, and satisfying desserts. The only drawbacks are: too small a space for the number of guests (but everyone's so happy that it still a good experience) and the meal is kind of rushed -- they actually get 4-5 seatings for dinner each night! But The House is still one of my favorite restaurants in The City. Cab-it as the North Beach parking is as bad as it gets. Also, be prepared for encounters with drunks spilling out onto the street from the next-door historic bar.

  • Pros: Great food. Sufficient wine list. Well designed and executed dishes.
  • Cons: As you can imagine, parking is a nightmare.

Insanely popular, don't go without a reservation

by SonomaLocal at Citysearch

Ask the server what they recommend and just go with that, they always know what the best dishes are that day. it's a small restaurant but service is professional and quick. just don't show up without a res you have a snowball's chance in hell of getting in.

best asian inspired experience ever off City Search restaurant suggestions!

by annie_moore at Citysearch

We dined here while traveling with friends from Europe after reading reviews & were absolutely thrilled with the experience!! Every single thing we had was perfectly prepared & delicious (and we're picky). The garlic noodles were to die for, all the fish dishes were lovely, tasty & inspired, and the desserts were crazy great (the passionfruit affair was divine.) Highly recommend - even our waitperson was lovely, not in-our-face, and her recommendations were all outstanding. Ok, guess you can tell, we think this place is a keeper! It is very small - which we didn't mind, & we came by cab, so don't know about neighborhood or parking. Prices were reasonable & in line with the quality. Enjoy!

  • Pros: Everything we had was perfect & we're picky!
  • Cons: none-maybe the size for some parties would be tight

Wonderful food and presentation

by jwhung at Citysearch

Everything was very well done there. From the service, to the presentation to the intimate yet lively atmosphere, to of course the food. They had a great assortment of food to choose from. Reasonably large portions with great flavors in every bite. One can go from sweetness to gingery spiciness in a single bite. I tried the bass, the crab cakes, the salmon roll ~ each one was just divine. The service was very friendly and unpretensious. The restarant was very small so you definitely need to make reservations in advance. You can bring your own bottle of wine too but they have a long list to choose from. I would definitely go back when I'm in SF.

  • Pros: Everything

This is my all time FAVORITE restaurant.

by karenlau759 at Citysearch

This is my all time FAVORITE restaurant. I've never had a dish I didn't like here. My friend took me here for the first time 9 years ago and I haven't stop praising about it since. Their pork chop with a pomergranite sauce is mouth watering. I strongly suggest this dish. Their Prawns and mushroom rice is also to die for. My biggest problem with this restaurant is deciding what to order because I love it so much. Appetizers: The tuna tartare and salmon rolls are really good. Dessert: Blueberry bread pudding.... mmmm....

One problem though! There's an appetizer(?) special I had a few times (deep fried soft shell crab w/ a little pasta on the side). This needs to be on the menu permanently!

  • Pros: The Food. YUMMY!
  • Cons: If you bring a date, s/he will want to come back so be prepared.
